A Comparative Study on the Application of Text Mining in Cybersecurity

Aims: This paper aims to conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of the relative applications of text mining in cybersecurity. Objectives: The amount of data generated worldwide has been attributed to a change in different activities associated with cyber security, and demands a high automation level. Methods: In the cyber security domain, text mining is an alternative for improving the usefulness of various activities that entail unstructured data. This study searched databases of 516 papers from 2015 to 2021. Out of which, 75 papers are selected for analysis. A detailed evaluation of the selected studies employs sources, techniques, and information extraction on cyber security applications. Results: This study extends gaps for future studies, such as text processing, availability of datasets, innovative methods, and intelligent text mining. Conclusion: This study concludes with interesting findings of employing text mining in cybersecurity applications;the researchers need to exploit all related techniques and algorithms in text mining to detect and protect the organization from Cybersecurity applications. © 2023 Bentham science Publishers.

Maritime transportation,a cornerstone of global trade,faces increasing safety challenges due to growing sea traffic *** study proposes a novel approach to vessel trajectory prediction utilizing Automatic Identification System(AIS)data and advanced deep learning models,including Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM),Gated Recurrent Unit(GRU),Bidirectional LSTM(DBLSTM),Simple Recurrent Neural Network(SimpleRNN),and Kalman *** research implemented rigorous AIS data preprocessing,encompassing record deduplication,noise elimination,stationary simplification,and removal of insignificant *** were trained using key navigational parameters:latitude,longitude,speed,and *** aware processing through trajectory segmentation and topological data analysis(TDA)was employed to capture dynamic *** using a three-month AIS dataset demonstrated significant improvements in prediction *** GRU model exhibited superior performance,achieving training losses of 0.0020(Mean Squared Error,MSE)and 0.0334(Mean Absolute Error,MAE),with validation losses of 0.0708(MSE)and 0.1720(MAE).The LSTM model showed comparable efficacy,with training losses of 0.0011(MSE)and 0.0258(MAE),and validation losses of 0.2290(MSE)and 0.2652(MAE).Both models demonstrated reductions in training and validation losses,measured by MAE,MSE,Average Displacement Error(ADE),and Final Displacement Error(FDE).This research underscores the potential of advanced deep learning models in enhancing maritime safety through more accurate trajectory predictions,contributing significantly to the development of robust,intelligent navigation systems for the maritime industry.

Colored Petri nets (CPNs) provide descriptions of the concurrent behaviors for software and hardware. Model checking based on CPNs is an effective method to simulate and verify the concurrent behavior in system design. However, the model-checking method traverses the full state space, which suffers from the state-space explosion problem. A reduced state-space generation method related to the property of concurrent systems is proposed. Specifically, we extend CPNs to define a property-related model (CPN-PR) and give a property-related analysis method whose results can be used to generate the CPN-PR model. A reduced state-space generation method is developed based on enabled binding element filtering rules. The stutter trace equivalence between the state spaces of CPN and CPN-PR has been proven by showing that the reduced state space may not change the model-checking result. A comparison experiment is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Large language models (LLMs) have rapidly advanced and demonstrated impressive capabilities. In-Context Learning (ICL) and Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) are currently two mainstream methods for augmenting LLMs to downstream tasks. ICL typically constructs a few-shot learning scenario, either manually or by setting up a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system, helping models quickly grasp domain knowledge or question-answering patterns without changing model parameters. However, this approach involves trade-offs, such as slower inference speed and increased space occupancy. PEFT assists the model in adapting to tasks through minimal parameter modifications, but the training process still demands high hardware requirements, even with a small number of parameters involved. To address these challenges, we propose Reference Trustable Decoding (RTD), a paradigm that allows models to quickly adapt to new tasks without fine-tuning, maintaining low inference costs. RTD constructs a reference datastore from the provided training examples and optimizes the LLM's final vocabulary distribution by flexibly selecting suitable references based on the input, resulting in more trustable responses and enabling the model to adapt to downstream tasks at a low cost. Experimental evaluations on various LLMs using different benchmarks demonstrate that RTD establishes a new paradigm for augmenting models to downstream tasks. Furthermore, our method exhibits strong orthogonality with traditional methods, allowing for concurrent usage. Knowledge graphs (KGs) provide a structured representation of the real world through entity-relation triples. However, current KGs are often incomplete, typically containing only a small fraction of all possible facts. This involves inferring missing content from existing information, a task known as link prediction. Existing methods in the field of link prediction struggle with controlling the dimensionality of embedding vectors or suffer from overly complex models. In order to tackle these challenges, we introduce a method in this paper, named Low-Dimensional Embedding Method for Link Prediction Combining Self-Attention and Enhanced-TuckER (LESaET). LESaET leverages both self-attention mechanisms and tensor factorization to learn expressive contextual-enhanced representations of KGs. Specifically, LESaET employs the multi-head self-attention mechanism of Transformer as an encoder to capture the mutual information between entities and relationships, and utilizes Enhanced-TuckER as a decoder, ultimately achieving expressive low-dimensional embeddings for link prediction tasks. LESaET demonstrates competitive performance compared to advanced methods on standard datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing adoption of autonomous vehicles has driven the need for robust data management solutions that support real-time operations and ensure vehicle safety and efficiency. This work introduces a cloud-based framework for management of sensor data from autonomous vehicles, focusing on optimizing payload transmission rates. The framework leverages AWS IoT Core and AWS IoT Analytics to ensure efficient data flow from vehicle sensors to cloud storage. This framework demonstrates its potential for scalable deployment in real-world autonomous vehicle networks, contributing to the evolution of connected vehicle technologies and intelligent transport systems. This framework ensures reliable data transmission up to 250 payloads per second, beyond which data loss occurs. © 2025 IEEE.

The Whale Optimization Algorithm(WOA)is a swarm intelligence metaheuristic inspired by the bubble-net hunting tactic of humpback *** spite of its popularity due to simplicity,ease of implementation,and a limited number of parameters,WOA’s search strategy can adversely affect the convergence and equilibrium between exploration and exploitation in complex *** address this limitation,we propose a new algorithm called Multi-trial Vector-based Whale Optimization Algorithm(MTV-WOA)that incorporates a Balancing Strategy-based Trial-vector Producer(BS_TVP),a Local Strategy-based Trial-vector Producer(LS_TVP),and a Global Strategy-based Trial-vector Producer(GS_TVP)to address real-world optimization problems of varied degrees of ***-WOA has the potential to enhance exploitation and exploration,reduce the probability of being stranded in local optima,and preserve the equilibrium between exploration and *** the purpose of evaluating the proposed algorithm's performance,it is compared to eight metaheuristic algorithms utilizing CEC 2018 test ***,MTV-WOA is compared with well-stablished,recent,and WOA variant *** experimental results demonstrate that MTV-WOA surpasses comparative algorithms in terms of the accuracy of the solutions and convergence ***,we conducted the Friedman test to assess the gained results statistically and observed that MTV-WOA significantly outperforms comparative ***,we solved five engineering design problems to demonstrate the practicality of *** results indicate that the proposed MTV-WOA can efficiently address the complexities of engineering challenges and provide superior solutions that are superior to those of other algorithms.

Nowadays, machine learning (ML) has attained a high level of achievement in many contexts. Considering the significance of ML in medical and bioinformatics owing to its accuracy, many investigators discussed multiple solutions for developing the function of medical and bioinformatics challenges using deep learning (DL) techniques. The importance of DL in Internet of Things (IoT)-based bio- and medical informatics lies in its ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of complex and diverse data in real time, providing insights that can improve healthcare outcomes and increase efficiency in the healthcare industry. Several applications of DL in IoT-based bio- and medical informatics include diagnosis, treatment recommendation, clinical decision support, image analysis, wearable monitoring, and drug discovery. The review aims to comprehensively evaluate and synthesize the existing body of the literature on applying deep learning in the intersection of the IoT with bio- and medical informatics. In this paper, we categorized the most cutting-edge DL solutions for medical and bioinformatics issues into five categories based on the DL technique utilized: convolutional neural network, recurrent neural network, generative adversarial network, multilayer perception, and hybrid methods. A systematic literature review was applied to study each one in terms of effective properties, like the main idea, benefits, drawbacks, methods, simulation environment, and datasets. After that, cutting-edge research on DL approaches and applications for bioinformatics concerns was emphasized. In addition, several challenges that contributed to DL implementation for medical and bioinformatics have been addressed, which are predicted to motivate more studies to develop medical and bioinformatics research progressively.
