Electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world, posing a threat to human health and the environment. E-waste classification is an essential step for adequately managing and recycling E-waste. In this research, we have proposed a method for E-waste classification using YOLOv7 as an E-waste detection model. After that, a pre-trained model is used as a classification model. First, we have used YOLOv7 to detect E-waste objects in images and crop them into separate regions. Then, we have used a pre-trained model to classify each part into one of the different categories of E-waste composition. Finally, we have got 93.5% mAP for the E-waste detection model and 99.7% accuracy for the classification of E-waste. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

In recent years, the study of artificial intelligence (AI) has undergone a paradigm shift. This has been propelled by the groundbreaking capabilities of generative models both in supervised and unsupervised learning scenarios. Generative AI has shown state-of-the-art performance in solving perplexing real-world conundrums in fields such as image translation, medical diagnostics, textual imagery fusion, natural language processing, and beyond. This paper documents the systematic review and analysis of recent advancements and techniques in Generative AI with a detailed discussion of their applications including application-specific models. Indeed, the major impact that generative AI has made to date, has been in language generation with the development of large language models, in the field of image translation and several other interdisciplinary applications of generative AI. Moreover, the primary contribution of this paper lies in its coherent synthesis of the latest advancements in these areas, seamlessly weaving together contemporary breakthroughs in the field. Particularly, how it shares an exploration of the future trajectory for generative AI. In conclusion, the paper ends with a discussion of Responsible AI principles, and the necessary ethical considerations for the sustainability and growth of these generative models. © Crown 2024.

Full-Duplex Millimeter Wave MIMO Channel Estimation: A Neural Network Approach

Millimeter wave (mmWave) multiple-input-multi-output (MIMO) is now a reality with great potential for further improvement. We study full-duplex transmissions as an effective way to improve mmWave MIMO systems. Compared to half-duplex systems, full-duplex transmissions may offer higher data rates and lower latency. However, full-duplex transmission is hindered by self-interference (SI) at the receive antennas, and SI channel estimation becomes a crucial step to make the full-duplex systems feasible. In this paper, we address the problem of channel estimation in full-duplex mmWave MIMO systems using neural networks (NNs). Our approach involves sharing pilot resources between user equipments (UEs) and transmit antennas at the base station (BS), aiming to reduce the pilot overhead in full-duplex systems and to achieve a comparable level to that of a half-duplex system. Additionally, in the case of separate antenna configurations in a full-duplex BS, providing channel estimates of transmit antenna (TX) arrays to the downlink UEs poses another challenge, as the TX arrays are not capable of receiving pilot signals. To address this, we employ an NN to map the channel from the downlink UEs to the receive antenna (RX) arrays to the channel from the TX arrays to the downlink UEs. We further elaborate on how NNs perform the estimation with different architectures, (e.g., different numbers of hidden layers), the introduction of non-linear distortion (e.g., with a 1-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC)), and different channel conditions (e.g., low-correlated and high-correlated channels). Reinforcement Learning for Online Dispatching Policy in Real-Time Train Timetable Rescheduling

Train Timetable Rescheduling (TTR) is a crucial task in the daily operation of high-speed railways to maintain punctuality and efficiency in the presence of unexpected disturbances. However, it is challenging to promptly create a rescheduled timetable in real time. In this study, we propose a reinforcement-learning-based method for real-time rescheduling of high-speed trains. The key innovation of the proposed method is to learn a well-generalized dispatching policy from a large amount of samples, which can be applied to the TTR task directly. At first, the problem is transformed into a multi-stage decision process, and the decision agent is designed to predict dispatching rules. To enhance the training efficiency, we generate a small yet good-quality action set to reduce invalid explorations. Besides, we propose an action sampling strategy for action selection, which implements forward planning with consideration of evaluation uncertainty, thus improving search efficiency. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and competitiveness of the proposed method. It has been proven that the local policies trained by the proposed method can be applied to numerous problem instances directly, rendering it unnecessary to use human-designed rules. © 2000-2011 IEEE.

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has emerged as a paradigm shift in healthcare, integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) with medical devices, sensors, and healthcare systems. From peripheral devices that monitor vital signs to remote patient monitoring systems and smart hospitals, IoMT provides a vast array of applications that empower healthcare professionals. However, the integration of IoMT presents numerous obstacles, such as data security, privacy concerns, interoperability, scalability, and ethical considerations. For the successful integration and deployment of IoMT, addressing these obstacles is essential. Federated Learning (FL) permits collaborative model training while maintaining data privacy in distributed environments like IoMT. By incorporating Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) techniques, the resulting models become more interpretable and transparent, enabling healthcare professionals to comprehend the underlying decision-making processes. This integration not only improves the credibility of Artificial Intelligence models but also facilitates the detection of biases, errors, and peculiar patterns in the data. The combination of FL and XAI contributes to the development of more privacy-preserving, trustworthy, and explainable AI systems, which are essential for the development of dependable and ethically sound IoMT applications. Hence, the aim of this paper is to conduct a literature review on the amalgamation of FL and XAI for IoMT. © 2024 Bentham science Publishers.

Enhancing Skin Cancer Diagnosis with Deep Learning:A Hybrid CNN-RNN Approach

Skin cancer diagnosis is difficult due to lesion presentation variability. Conventionalmethods struggle to manuallyextract features and capture lesions spatial and temporal variations. This study introduces a deep learning-basedConvolutional and Recurrent Neural Network (CNN-RNN) model with a ResNet-50 architecture which usedas the feature extractor to enhance skin cancer classification. Leveraging synergistic spatial feature extractionand temporal sequence learning, the model demonstrates robust performance on a dataset of 9000 skin lesionphotos from nine cancer types. Using pre-trained ResNet-50 for spatial data extraction and Long Short-TermMemory (LSTM) for temporal dependencies, the model achieves a high average recognition accuracy, surpassingprevious methods. The comprehensive evaluation, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, underscoresthe model’s competence in categorizing skin cancer types. This research contributes a sophisticated model andvaluable guidance for deep learning-based diagnostics, also this model excels in overcoming spatial and temporalcomplexities, offering a sophisticated solution for dermatological diagnostics research.

The coronavirus disease, COVID-19, that grasped the earth since 2019, has taken a serious toll on humanity. COVID-19 cases were spiking exponentially in densely populated regions, and the health infrastructure was challenged daily. As such, Artificial Intelligence (AI) had to step in to improvise medical imaging applications. One such use case was the classification of computerized Tomography (CT) Scan images into COVID-infected and un-infected categories. Thus it would effectively classify a patient being either COVID Positive or Negative. computer Vision (CV) algorithms manifest the potential to solve such image classification problems. In retrospect, deep learning-based architectures have been very productive. However, Vision Transformers (ViT) have taken over CV since its inception. In this study, we propose CoViT-Net: A pre-trained hybrid Vision Transformer architecture for detecting COVID-19 in CT scan images. Our proposed CoViT-Net has a unique architecture incorporating a ViT-S/16 feature extractor, pre-trained on the ImageNet21k dataset, and a modified MLP block with dense layers on top.
