Hybrid excitation machines (HEMs) that consist of permanent magnet (PM) and field excitation coil (FEC) as their main flux sources has several attractive features compared to interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSM) conventionally employed in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Among various types of HEM, the machine with both permanent magnet and field excitation coil located on the stator has the advantage of robust rotor structure similar as switch reluctance machine (SRM). In addition, the variable flux control capabilities from field excitation coil make this machine becoming more attractive to be applied for high-speed motor drive systems, coupled with reduction gear. This HEM can be categorized as hybrid excitation flux switching synchronous machine (HEFSSM). In this paper, a novel 12Slot-10Pole HEFSSM where the field excitation coil is wounded in radial direction in the stator is proposed for traction drives in HEVs. The design target of the proposed machine is a maximum torque of 210Nm with reduction gear ratio of 4:1, a maximum power of 123kW, a maximum power density more than 3.5kW/kg, and a maximum speed of 20,000r/min with similar restrictions and specifications in IPMSM used for LEXUS RX400h. The deterministic design optimization method based on 2D-FEA is used to treat design parameters defined in rotor, armature coil slot and field excitation coil slot until the target performances are achieved, under maximum current density condition for both armature coil and field excitation coil. The final results show that the final design HEFSSM is able to keep the same torque density in existing IPMSM installed on a commercial SUV-HEV. © 2011 IEEE.

Karyotyping, is the process of classification of human chromosomes within the microscopic images. This is a common task for diagnosing many genetic disorders and abnormalities. Automatic Karyotyping algorithms usually suffer the poor quality of the images due to the non rigid nature of the chromosomes which makes them to have unpredictable shapes and sizes in various images. One of the main problems that usually need operator's interaction is the identification and separation of the overlapping/touching chromosomes. This paper presents an effective algorithm for identification of any cluster of the overlapping/touching chromosomes together with the number of chromosomes in the cluster, which is a very first step towards the development of a fully automatic Karyotyping system. The proposed algorithm which is based on the extraction of the number of endpoints within the skeleton of the image objects uses morphological operators. Two independent datasets obtained from the Tesi-Imaging srl in Milan, Italy and the Imam Hospital in Tehran, Iran was used to evaluate the performance of the algorithm. An accuracy of %96 and %99 were obtained on identification of the clusters of overlapping/touching chromosomes and single chromosomes respectively by the proposed algorithm. © 2011 IEEE.

Recent study has shown that accurate knowledge of the false negative rate (FNR) of tests can significantly improve the diagnostic accuracy of spectrum-based fault localization. To understand the principles behind FNR modeling in this paper we study three error propagation probability (EPP) modeling approaches applied to a number of logic circuits from the 74XXX/ISCAS-85 benchmark suite. Monte Carlo simulations for random injected faults show that a deterministic approach that models gate behavior provides high accuracy (O(1%)), while probabilistic approaches that abstract from gate modeling generate higher prediction errors (O(10%)), which increase with the number of injected faults. © 2011 IEEE.

Wireless sensor networks are a family of networks in wireless communication system and have the potential to become significant subsystem of engineering applications. In view of the fact that the sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks are typically irreplaceable, this type of network should operate with minimum possible energy in order to improve overall energy efficiency. Therefore, the protocols and algorithms developed for sensor networks must incorporate energy consumption as the highest priority optimization goal. Since the base station in sensor networks is usually a node with high processing power, high storage capacity and the battery used can be rechargeable, the base station can be utilized to collect data from each sensor node in the sensing area by moving closer to the transmitting node. In this paper, we proposed an energy-efficient protocol for the movement of mobile base station using particle swarm optimization (PSO) method in wireless sensor networks. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocol can improve the network lifetime, data delivery and energy consumption compared to existing energy-efficient protocols developed for this network. © 2011 IEEE.

Ensemble learning has become a common tool for data stream classification, being able to handle large volumes of stream data and concept drifting. Previous studies focus on building accurate prediction models from stream data. However, a linear scan of a large number of base classifiers in the ensemble during prediction incurs significant costs in response time, preventing ensemble learning from being practical for many real world time-critical data stream applications, such as Web traffic stream monitoring, spam detection, and intrusion detection. In these applications, data streams usually arrive at a speed of GB/second, and it is necessary to classify each stream record in a timely manner. To address this problem, we propose a novel Ensemble-tree (E-tree for short) indexing structure to organize all base classifiers in an ensemble for fast prediction. On one hand, E-trees treat ensembles as spatial databases and employ an R-tree like height-balanced structure to reduce the expected prediction time from linear to sub-linear complexity. On the other hand, E-trees can automatically update themselves by continuously integrating new classifiers and discarding outdated ones, well adapting to new trends and patterns underneath data streams. Experiments on both synthetic and real-world data streams demonstrate the performance of our approach. Copyright 2011 ACM.

Data mining techniques are important to sift through the huge amount of gene expression values in microarrays resulting in valuable biological knowledge. An important example is classifying cancer samples, which is crucial to biologists for cancer diagnosis and treatment. In this paper we propose the DMCA technique in which the main objective is reducing the number of genes needed for accurate classification. The proposed technique is a combination of two feature selection techniques, f-score and entropy-based, and a powerful classifier, Support Vector Machines. DMCA achieved promising results and is characterized by being flexible in all of its stages. When applied to two public microarray datasets, DMCA succeeded in reducing the number of gene expression values needed to classify a sample by 71.29% and guaranteed reliable classification accuracy.

In this paper, we propose an arrangement and detection method of an invisible calibration pattern based on characteristics of human visual perception. A calibration pattern is arranged around contents where invisible data is embedded, as some feature points between an original image and the scanned image for normalization of the scanned image. However, it is clear that conventional methods interfere with page layout and artwork of contents. Moreover, conventional visible patterns show a third person the position of embedded data. Therefore, visible calibration patterns are not suitable for security service. The most important part of human visual perception in the proposed method is the spectral luminous efficiency characteristic and the chromatic spatial frequency characteristic. In addition, a back ground color in surrounding of contents is not restricted to uniform color by using the proposed calibration pattern. It is suggest that the proposed method protect page layout and artwork. © 2010 The Institute of Electrical eng.neers of Japan.

Model checking techniques have been applied widely for verifying hardware designs and protocols since they can check if the system operates as desired or not without actually running the system. Recently, the usage of model checking for software verification has also been increasingly considered. One notable advantage of the model checking approach is the ability of producing counter-example when detecting undesired problem. However, model checking also suffered some prominent disadvantages which are (i) state explosion problem with non-trivial input space and (ii) over-specific model-based representation of verification results. In this paper, we propose a framework known as MAFSE (Model-based Framework for Software verification) which is still able to make full use of model checking capability for verifying software programs yet overcoming those typical drawbacks by applying appropriate methods. Our framework has been tested with some lab-scaled data and is promising to be applied for industrial software engineering.

While the class of congestion games has been thoroughly studied in the multi-agent systems literature, settings with incomplete information have received relatively little attention. In this paper we consider a setting in which the cost functions of resources in the congestion game are initially unknown. The agents gather information about these cost functions through repeated interaction, and observations of costs they incur. In this context we consider the following requirement: The agents' algorithms should themselves be in equilibrium, regardless of the actual cost functions and should lead to an efficient outcome. We prove that this requirement is achievable for a broad class of games: repeated symmetric congestion games. Our results are applicable even when agents are somewhat limited in their capacity to monitor the actions of their counterparts, or when they are unable to determine the exact cost they incur from every resource. On the other hand, we show that there exist asymmetric congestion games for which no such equilibrium can be found, not even an inefficient one. Finally we consider equilibria with resistance to the deviation of more than one player and show that these do not exist even in repeated resource selection games. Automatic font-written Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is highly desirable for numerous modern information technology (IT) applications. Reliable font-written OCR's for Latin scripts are readily in use since long. For cursively scripted languages, that are the mother tongues of over one fourth of the world population, such OCR's are however not available at a robust and reliable performance. In this regard, the main challeng. is the mandatory connectivity of characters/ligatures (i.e. graphemes) that has to be resolved simultaneously upon the recognition of these graphemes. Among the various approaches tried over decades, Hidden Markov Models (HMM)-based OCR's seem to be the most promising as they capitalize on the ability of HMM decoders to achieve segmentation and recognition simultaneously similar to the widely used HMM-based automatic speech recognition (ASR). Unlike ASR's, what is missing in HMM-based OCR's is the definition of a rigorously founded features vector capable to robustly achieving minimal "font type/size-independent" (omnifont) word error rates comparable to those realized with Latin scripts. Here comes the contribution of this paper that introduces such a sound features vector design, and experimentally shows its superiority in this regard.
