Artificial Intelligence Based Cooperative Spectrum Sensing Algorithm for Cognitive Radio Networks

Cognitive Radio (CR) technology is regarded as a key network technology used to manage the limitation of the available spectrum in wireless communication networks. Spectrum Sensing (SS) is the core process in CR eng.ne based on detecting the free channels and sharing it among other users. In wideband spectrum, many algorithms are proposed to sense the available free channels. Cooperative sensing is mainly considered as an effective solution of signal fading and shadowing problems in CR networks. From another side, CR networks can utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques for dynamically sensing and decision making processes. In this paper, a blind adaptive spectrum sensing algorithm based over centralized cooperative sensing platform is proposed. Then, an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Interference System (ANFIS) technique is applied in decision-making process to achieve the optimum and accurate decisions. The simulation process and the output results showed that, the proposed technique outperforms both a standalone sensing techniques and other cooperative sensing with conventional decision making algorithms regarding to the probability of false alarms, probability of detection and probability of missed detection especially in low Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). The results obtained by the proposed algorithm based on ANFIS decision making technique outperformed the other conventional decision making techniques.

Uncooled terahertz (THz) detectors with low noise-equivalent power (NEP) are especially important for the application of non-destructive sensing in many fields. Antenna-coupled THz microbolometers with meander thermistors of titanium (Ti) and Platinum (Pt) are studied to develop room-temperature THz detectors. The responsivity and NEP of the microbolometer with a meander Ti thermistor are much improved for 1 THz irradiation in comparison with those of the previous one with a straight Ti thermistor. The THz performance of the meander Ti bolometer is much better than the one with a meander Pt thermistor. Those results can be explained by the increase of the thermistor resistance and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) through innovating the meander line and also improving the fabrication process based on the electron beam (EB) lithography. © 2018 IEEE.

In this study, a new investigation is underway with the primary objective of the weather parameters impacton the wind turbine power. Therobust and straightforward dynamic model for accurate predicting wind turbine output power waspresented. The evaluation has been done for thewhole environmental components influencing on the model and output power. The selected wind turbine type (RW-5kW)and the predicted energy has been evaluated based onthe experimental weather data of the city of Hel in the north of Poland. The results show that the air density has a high influence on the wind turbine output power and this value is affected by several environmental factors such as pressure, humidity, and temperature. It turns out that the temperature is the most influential, while the pressure and humidity have a lower effect and if they are not available in measured data during modelling they can create only 0.5% error.

Multifractal analysis for core-periphery structure of complex networks

Revealing the properties of the core-periphery structure of complex networks can help us to deeply understand their organized principle and function. Studies in recent years have indicated that the k-core and peripheral subnetworks of some model and real-world networks exhibit the fractal behavior, but it remains unclear whether they possess the multifractal behavior. In this paper, we study the multifractal property of these networks and their subnetworks. First, we obtain the sequence of k-cores and their corresponding k-peripheries of original networks by using the k-core decomposition method. We find that the multifractal property exists in these k-cores and k-peripheries of the generalized minimal model network and some Brain networks. Furthermore, the multifractality of the k-cores becomes weaker and that of k-peripheries becomes stronger with the increase of k. The result is consistent with the fact that the k-core becomes more homogenous or cohesive with increasing k. Then we decompose each of these original networks into a densely connected core and a sparsely connected periphery. Although the periphery and the original network have almost the same fractal behavior at the tail part of the resulting curves in the log-log plot for some fractal networks, their multifractality are very different. This means that a unique fractal dimension is not enough to characterize the complexity or spatial heterogeneity of these networks when they take a multifractal structure. Our results show that the multifractal analysis is more powerful than the fractal analysis in characterizing the complexity of the core-periphery structure of complex networks. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd and SISSA medialab srl

In the paper, the problem of fast multi-objective optimization of compact impedance matching transformers is addressed by utilizing a novel Pareto ranking bisection algorithm. It approximates the Pareto front by dividing line segments connecting the designs found in the previous iterations, and refining the obtained candidate solutions by means of poll-type search involving Pareto ranking. The final Pareto set is obtained using surrogate-based optimization techniques. Our approach is validated using a compact impedance matching transformer and compared to state-of-the-art surrogate-assisted techniques. © 2017 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society.

In this paper, we discuss multi-objective design optimization of planar inductors using surrogate modeling techniques. The goal is to identify the best possible trade-offs between the quality factor of the inductor and its size while maintaining a required value of the inductance at a given operating frequency. The design problem is formulated as a mixed-integer task involving geometry parameters as well as the number of inductor windings. The initial Pareto front is found by optimizing a data-driven surrogate of the structure at hand, further refined by means of response correction techniques. Our considerations are illustrated using a 3.5-nH spiral inductor implemented in 65-nm CMOS technology. © 2017 IEEE.

With the application and development of wireless network in industrial fields, wireless network technology can be applied to control network systems at field control layer, which achieves a hybrid wired/wireless networks with industrial-grade real-time performance. This paper focuses on the integration architecture and performance evaluation of the industrial wired/wireless hybrid networks, and proposes a synchronized optimization method for hybrid integration. A periodic real-time communication model in gateway based on multi-token is established. Especially, a delay model of data synchronization update and data are built in the case of low-speed and high-speed token network. The token cycle synchronization is proposed according to the integration situation, which is significant in reducing network delay and improving delay stability of integration hybrid network. At last performance evaluation on conversion time, control cycle is carried out to study the hybrid integration gateway model and gateway optimization. © 2016 ACM.

We focus on the performance of the energy detector for cognitive radio applications. Our aim is to incorporate, into the energy detector, low-complexity algorithms that compute the performance of the detector itself. The main parameters of interest are the probability of detection and the required number of samples. Since the exact performance analysis involves complicated functions of two variables, such as the regularized lower incomplete Gamma function, we introduce new low-complexity approximations based on algebraic transformations of the one-dimensional Gaussian Q-function. The numerical comparison of the proposed approximations with the exact analysis highlights the good accuracy of the low-complexity computation approach.

The paper deals with the issue of measuring the moisture content of brick walls in buildings of high historical value. It includes a classification of known methods used to measure the moisture content and their valorisation with regards to the legitimacy of using them in historical buildings. Moreover, the most important considerations for conducting such measurements are also described, which include the choice of an appropriate method for a specific situation, the determination of a correlative or hypothetical dependency for equipment used in tests and also the method of distributing measurement points.

The results of research published in many publications indicate that the scale of the problem of accidents at work in the construction industry is significant. Fatal and serious accidents, which in the construction industry are often a result of a fall from a height and associated with working on scaffolding, have a particularly strong impact on society. Systematic controls carried out on Polish construction sites indicate irregularities in the area of ensuring safety on scaffolding. As a result of conducted own studies, dozens of accidents caused by falls from scaffolding were selected from the total number of accidents at work in the construction industry and then analysed. The aim of the research was to identify the causes of these accidents and their consequences. The results of studies conducted in this area will be the content of the article.
