We propose a real-time multiple object tracking method for smart environment applications. the proposed method combines identity features and tracking features for robust long-term object tracking. Face is a stable feature for identifying different subjects. However, face is not reliable for object tracking. Whole body color histogram is more resistant to object scale and pose changes, which has been widely applied in short-term object tracking. Unfortunately, color histograms are not stable over a relatively long period of time. in smart environments, same subjects may have different clothes over a long time span. We propose a method to combine these two features, the identity features and tracking features, to achieve reliable multiple object tracking in smart environments. A fast object labeling approach is proposed to track multiple objects in real time. the proposed method has clear advantage over traditional single feature methods. Experiments confirm that the proposed method can reliably track multiple human objects in real time through long video sequences. © 2008 iEEE

this paper has been designed to identify the Web metrics for evaluating the reliability and maintainability of hypermedia applications. in the age of information and communication technology (iCt), Web and the internet, have brought significant changes in information technology (it) and their related scenarios. therefore in this paper an attempt has been made to trace out the Web-based measurements towards the creation of efficient Web centric applications. the dramatic increase in Web site development and their relative usage has led to the need of Web-based metrics. these metrics will accurately assess the efforts in the Web-based applications. Here we promote the simple, but elegant approaches to estimate the efforts needed for designing Web-based applications with the help of user behavior model graph (UBMG), Web page replacement algorithms, and Rs Web Application Effort Assessment (RsWAEA) method. Effort assessment of hyperdocuments is crucial for Web-based systems, where outages can result in loss of revenue and dissatisfied customers. Here we advocate a simple, but elegant approach for effort estimation for Web applications from an empirical point of view. the proposed methods and models have been designed after carrying out an empirical study with the students of an advanced university class and Web designers that used various client-server based Web technologies. Our first aim was to compare the relative importance of each Web-based metric and method. second, we also implemented the quality of the designs obtained based by constructing the User Behavior Model Graphs (UBMGs) to capture the reliability of Web-based applications. thirdly, we use Web page replacement algorithms for increasing the Web site usability index, maintainability, reliability, and ranking. the results obtained from the above Web-based metrics can help us to analytically identify the effort assessment and failure points in Web-based systems and makes the evaluation of reliability of thes

this paper presents a comprehensive study of the pixel-based skin color detection techniques. two main issues of the skin detection are the selection of the best color space and skin color pixel classification algorithm. A large set of XM2Vts face database is used to examine whether the selection of color space can enhance the compactness of the skin class and discriminability between skin and non-skin class in thirteen color spaces and six different skin color pixel classification algorithms. the results show that 1) the selection of the color space can improve the skin classification performance 2) the segmentation performance degrades only when chrominance information is used for classification 3) Bayesian classifier is found to perform better as compared to other classification algorithms. Piecewise linear decision boundary classifier algorithm outperforms all the other skin classification algorithms when it is used for images with good illumination conditions. © 2007 iEEE.

Drug discovery refers to the finding of a new drug which could be a completely new compound or a new derivative of existing compounds. Drug discovery is the ultimate goal of drug design which concerned with the design of a chemical compound that exhibits a desired pharmacological activity. Machine learning tools, in particular support Vector Machines (sVM), Particle swarm Optimisation (PsO) and Genetic Programming (GP), are increasingly used in pharmaceuticals research and development. they are inherently suitable for use with noisy, high dimensional data, as is commonly used in cheminformatic, bioinformatics and other types of drug research studies. these aspects are demonstrated via review of their current usage and future prospects in context with drug discovery activities. © 2007 Asian Network for scientific information.

Consistency-based diagnosis automatically provides fault detection and localization capabilities, using just models for correct behavior. However, it may exhibit a lack of discrimination power. Knowledge about fault modes can be added to tackle the problem. Unfortunately, it brings additional complexity issues, since it will be necessary to discriminate among a maximum of KN mode assignments, for N components and K possible fault modes per component. Usually, some kind of heuristic information is included in the diagnosis process to focus the model-based diagnostician. in this work we study the combination of a consistency-based diagnosis system together with a Case-based Reasoning system. the consistency-based diagnosis will perform fault detection and localization. the CBR system provides accurate indication of the most probable fault mode, at early stages of the localization process. © 2007 EUCA.

in peer assessment, the awarding grades might not accurately reflect the students' achievement due to potential rating bias or individual abilities. the proposed methodology aims at aggregating students' ratings to reduce personal bias using agent negotiation. We consider individual learning styles of assessors into the negotiation process and show by an illustrative example and an experiment how the accuracy of assessment results can be improved through incorporating learning styles. the more accurate feedback provides students a better quality of assessment which enables them to reflect their effort and abilities.

Efficient and improved methods of secured route discovery and secured data transmission in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANEt) [1] are most recent research issues for ensuring full applicability of deploying MANEts in wide range of applications, including strategic as well as non-strategic. secured route discovery has been addressed by sRP/sMt [2] [3], as a generic protocol independent technique for secured route discovery. in DsR [4] the issue of secured route discovery is left to be addressed by other protocols. One such concept has been discussed in the proposal of s-DsR [5], by integrating sRP features in DsR, to achieve secured and multiple route discovery. s-DsR also proposes steps to achieve high throughput, cache management and sustained bandwidth. in this paper impact of proactive route discovery and periodic route validation (as suggested in s-DsR) on sMt/ssP [6] has been analyzed. Authors of sMt/ssP have proposed algorithms for assigning route rating and survival probability. Our proposal in this paper suggests new techniques for assigning route rating and improving path survival probability. these proposed modifications simplify and enhance the functioning of sMt/ssP in terms of better and efficient cache management and improved path survivability.

Early detection of polyps and cancers is one of the most important goals of colonoscopy. computer-based analysis of video files using texture features, as has been proposed for polyps of the stomach and colon, has two major limitations: this method uses a fixed size analysis window and relies heavily on a training set of images for accuracy. to overcome these limitations, we propose a new technique focusing on shape instead of texture in this paper. the proposed polyp region detection method is based on the elliptical shape that is common for nearly all small colon polyps.

Worldwide lightning location (WWLL) using only 30 lightning sensors has been successfully achieved by using only VLF propagation in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide (EiWG). Ground propagation or mixed “sky” and ground propagation is avoided by requiring evidence of Earth-ionosphere waveguide dispersion. A further requirement is that the lightning strike must be inside the perimeter defined by the lightning sensor sites detecting the stroke. Under these conditions, the time and the location of the stroke can be determined, along with the rms errors. Lightning strokes with errors exceeding 30 ps or 10 km are rejected. to assist with identifying impulses from the same lightning stroke, the lightning sensor threshold is automatically adjusted to allow an average detection rate of three per second. this largely limits detection to the strongest 4% of all lightning strokes, of which about 40% meet the accuracy requirements for time and location.
