ABstRACtin a short span of time since its introduction, generative artificial intelligence (Ai) has garnered much interest at both personal and organizational levels. this is because of its potential to cause drastic and widespread shifts in many aspects of life that are comparable to those of the internet and smartphones. More specifically, generative Ai utilizes machine learning, neural networks, and other techniques to generate new content (e.g. text, images, music) by analyzing patterns and information from the training data. this has enabled generative Ai to have a wide range of applications, from creating personalized content to improving business operations. Despite its many benefits, there are also significant concerns about the negative implications of generative Ai. in view of this, the current article brings together experts in a variety of fields to expound and provide multi-disciplinary insights on the opportunities, challenges, and research agendas of generative Ai in specific industries (i.e. marketing, healthcare, human resource, education, banking, retailing, the workplace, manufacturing, and sustainable it management).

Coupled oscillators have been used to study synchronization in a wide range of social, biological, and physical systems, including pedestrian-induced bridge resonances, coordinated lighting up of firefly swarms, and enhanced output peak intensity in synchronizing laser arrays. Here we advance this subject by studying a variant of the Kuramoto model, where the coupling between the phase oscillators is heterogeneous and nonlinear. in particular, the quenched disorder in the coupling strength and the intrinsic frequencies are correlated, and the coupling itself depends on the amplitude of the mean-field of the system. We show that the interplay of these factors leads to a fascinatingly rich collective dynamics, including explosive synchronization transitions, hybrid transitions with hysteresis absence, abrupt irreversible desynchronization transitions, and tiered phase transitions with or without a vanishing onset. We develop an analytical treatment that enables us to determine the observed equilibrium states of the system, as well as to explore their asymptotic stability at various levels. Our research thus provides theoretical foundations for a number of self-organized phenomena that may be responsible for the emergence of collective rhythms in complex systems. © 2021, CC BY.

A search for a charged Higgs boson, H ±sup>, produced in top-quark decays, t → H ±sup> b, is presented. the search targets H ±sup> decays into a bottom and a charm quark, H ±sup> → cb. the analysis focuses on a selection enriched in top-quark pair production, where one top quark decays into a leptonically decaying W boson and a bottom quark, and the other top quark decays into a charged Higgs boson and a bottom quark. this topology leads to a lepton-plus-jets final state, characterised by an isolated electron or muon and at least four jets. the search exploits the high multiplicity of jets containing b-hadrons, and deploys a neural network classifier that uses the kinematic differences between the signal and the background. the search uses a dataset of proton-proton collisions collected at a centre-of-mass energy s = 13 teV between 2015 and 2018 with the AtLAs detector at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, amounting to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb −1sup>. Observed (expected) 95% confidence-level upper limits between 0.15% (0.09%) and 0.42% (0.25%) are derived for the product of branching fractions B (t → H ±sup> b) × B(H ±sup> → cb) for charged Higgs boson masses between 60 and 160 GeV, assuming the sM production of the top-quark pairs. A search for high-mass charged and neutral bosons decaying to Wγ and Zγ final states is presented in this paper. the analysis uses a data sample of s = 13 teV proton-proton collisions with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb −1sup> collected by the AtLAs detector during LHC Run 2 operation. the sensitivity of the search is determined using models of the production and decay of spin-1 charged bosons and spin-0/2 neutral bosons. the range of resonance masses explored extends from 1.0 teV to 6.8 teV. At these high resonance masses, it is beneficial to target the hadronic decays of the W and Z bosons because of their large branching fractions. the decay products of the high-momentum W/Z bosons are strongly collimated and boosted-boson tagging techniques are employed to improve the sensitivity. No evidence of a signal above the standard Model backgrounds is observed, and upper limits on the production cross-sections of these bosons times their branching fractions to Wγ and Zγ are derived for various boson production models. the last two decades has seen quantum thermodynamics become a well established field of research in its own right. in that time, it has demonstrated a remarkably broad applicability, ranging from providing foundational advances in the understanding of how thermodynamic principles apply at the nano-scale and in the presence of quantum coherence, to providing a guiding framework for the development of efficient quantum devices. Exquisite levels of control have allowed state-of-the-art experimental platforms to explore energetics and thermodynamics at the smallest scales which has in turn helped to drive theoretical advances. this Roadmap provides an overview of the recent developments across many of the field’s sub-disciplines, assessing the key challenges and future prospects, providing a guide for its near term progress. this report reviews the published results of searches for possible additional scalar particles and exotic decays of the Higgs boson performed by the AtLAs Collaboration using up to 140 fb−1sup> of 13 teV proton–proton collision data collected during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. Key results are examined, and observed excesses, while never statistically compelling, are noted. Constraints are placed on parameters of several models which extend the standard Model, for example by adding one or more singlet or doublet fields, or offering exotic Higgs boson decay channels. summaries of new searches as well as extensions of previous searches are discussed. these new results have a wider reach or attain stronger exclusion limits. New experimental techniques that were developed for these searches are highlighted. search channels which have not yet been examined are also listed, as these provide insight into possible future areas of exploration. © 2024 the Author(s)

We present the results of the search for an isotropic stochastic gravitational wave background (GWB) at nanohertz frequencies using the second data release of the European Pulsar timing Array (EPtA) for 25 millisecond pulsars and a combination with the first data release of the indian Pulsar timing Array (inPtA). A robust GWB detection is conditioned upon resolving the Hellings-Downs angular pattern in the pairwise cross-correlation of the pulsar timing residuals. Additionally, the GWB is expected to yield the same (common) spectrum of temporal correlations across pulsars, which is used as a null hypothesis in the GWB search. such a common-spectrum process has already been observed in pulsar timing data. We analysed (i) the full 24.7-year EPtA data set, (ii) its 10.3-year subset based on modern observing systems, (iii) the combination of the full data set with the first data release of the inPtA for ten commonly timed millisecond pulsars, and (iv) the combination of the 10.3-year subset with the inPtA data. these combinations allowed us to probe the contributions of instrumental noise and interstellar propagation effects. With the full data set, we find marginal evidence for a GWB, with a Bayes factor of four and a false alarm probability of 4%. With the 10.3-year subset, we report evidence for a GWB, with a Bayes factor of 60 and a false alarm probability of about 0.1% (greater than or similar to 3 sigma significance). the addition of the inPtA data yields results that are broadly consistent with the EPtA-only data sets, with the benefit of better noise modelling. Analyses were performed with different data processing pipelines to test the consistency of the results from independent software packages. the latest EPtA data from new generation observing systems show non-negligible evidence for the GWB. At the same time, the inferred spectrum is rather uncertain and in mild tension with the common signal measured in the full data set. However, if the spectral index is

Aims. the nanohertz gravitational wave background (GWB) is expected to be an aggregate signal of an ensemble of gravitational waves emitted predominantly by a large population of coalescing supermassive black hole binaries in the centres of merging galaxies. Pulsar timing arrays (PtAs), which are ensembles of extremely stable pulsars at approximately kiloparsec distances precisely monitored for decades, are the most precise experiments capable of detecting this background. However, the subtle imprints that the GWB induces on pulsar timing data are obscured by many sources of noise that occur on various timescales. these must be carefully modelled and mitigated to increase the sensitivity to the background ***. in this paper, we present a novel technique to estimate the optimal number of frequency coefficients for modelling achromatic and chromatic noise, while selecting the preferred set of noise models to use for each pulsar. We also incorporated a new model to fit for scattering variations in the Bayesian pulsar timing package temponest. these customised noise models enable a more robust characterisation of single-pulsar noise. We developed a software package based on tempo2 to create realistic simulations of European Pulsar timing Array (EPtA) datasets that allowed us to test the efficacy of our noise modelling ***. Using these techniques, we present an in-depth analysis of the noise properties of 25 millisecond pulsars (MsPs) that form the second data release (DR2) of the EPtA and investigate the effect of incorporating low-frequency data from the indian Pulsar timing Array collaboration for a common sample of ten MsPs. We used two packages, enterprise and temponest, to estimate our noise models and compare them with those reported using EPtA DR1. We find that, while in some pulsars we can successfully disentangle chromatic from achromatic noise owing to the wider frequency coverage in DR2, in others the noise models evolve in a much mo

it is for the first time that quantum simulation for high-energy physics (HEP) is studied in the U.s. decadal particle-physics community planning, and in fact until recently, this was not considered a mainstream topic in the community. this fact speaks of a remarkable rate of growth of this subfield over the past few years, stimulated by the impressive advancements in quantum information sciences (Qis) and associated technologies over the past decade, and the significant investment in this area by the government and private sectors in the U.s. and other countries. High-energy physicists have quickly identified problems of importance to our understanding of nature at the most fundamental level, from tiniest distances to cosmological extents, that are intractable with classical computers but may benefit from quantum advantage. they have initiated, and continue to carry out, a vigorous program in theory, algorithm, and hardware co-design for simulations of relevance to the HEP mission. this Roadmap is an attempt to bring this exciting and yet challenging area of research to the spotlight, and to elaborate on what the promises, requirements, challenges, and potential solutions are over the next decade and beyond.

We report on the measurement of spin density matrix elements of the Λ(1520) in the photoproduction reaction γp→Λ(1520)K+, via its subsequent decay to K−p. the measurement was performed as part of the GlueX experimental program in Hall D at Jefferson Laboratory using a linearly polarized photon beam with Eγ=8.2GeV–8.8GeV. these are the first such measurements in this photon energy range. Results are presented in bins of momentum transfer squared, −(t−t0). We compare the results with a Reggeon exchange model and determine that natural exchange amplitudes are dominant in Λ(1520) photoproduction.
