This study introduces an innovative deep learning methodology leveraging the U-Net framework for medical image segmentation and lesion detection in brain tumors. U-net architecture contains encoder and decoder blocks which in turn are capable of capturing and propagation of information of the features. In this paper, for brain tumor segmentation, a U-Net Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is employed, utilizing multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data and skip connections for precise tumor localization and segmentation. Through comprehensive experiments, we show that our method outperforms traditional techniques and current CNN models for medical image segmentation and lesion detection in brain tumors. Moreover, the proposed method can perform the task with higher accuracy. This tailored U-Net architecture demonstrates the potential for advancing medical image analysis, enabling precise segmentation and lesion detection, ultimately leading to improved patient care and treatment outcomes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs) are becoming a critical part of the military to automate complex missions with minimum risk and increased efficiency. Path planning is a necessary routine for UCAVs to guide them from the initial position to a pre − determined target. The focus of this work is to devise an algorithm to automatically plan the path for UCAVs in a 3D environment that is hostile and contains obstacles. In this work, an improved symbiotic organisms search algorithm with a novel adaptive peaking mechanism is proposed for 3D path planning. The new algorithm has been designed so that the search environment can be efficiently explored and to ensure quick convergence. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analysed with respect to the UCAV path planning and the results and statistical analysis show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other existing algorithms and also achieves an 11% speedup in exploration time. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Research on lightweight pavement disease detection model based on YOLOv7

Rapid urbanization has made road construction and maintenance imperative, but detecting road diseases has been time-consuming with limited accuracy. To overcome these challenges, we propose an efficient YOLOv7 road disease detection model. Our approach involves integrating MobilieNetV3 as the backbone feature extraction network to reduce the network's parameters and computational requirements. Additionally, we introduce the BRA attention module into the spatial pyramid pooling module to eliminate redundant information and enhance the network's feature representation capability. Moreover, we utilize the F-ReLU activation function in the backbone network, expanding the convolutional layers' receptive field range. To optimize the model's boundary loss, we employ the Wise-IoU loss function, which places more emphasis on the quality of ordinary samples and enhances the overall performance and generalization ability of the network. Experimental results demonstrate that our improved detection algorithm achieves a higher recall rate and mean average precision (mAP) on the public dataset (RDD) and the NJdata dataset in Nanjing's urban area. Specifically, compared to YOLOv7, our model increases the recall rate and mAP on RDD by 3.3% and 2.6%, respectively. On the NJdata dataset, our model improves the recall rate and mAP by 1.9% and 1.3%, respectively. Furthermore, our model reduces parameter and computational requirements by 30% and 22.5%, respectively, striking a balance between detection accuracy and speed. In conclusion, our road disease detection model presents an effective solution to address the challenges associated with road disease detection in urban areas. It offers improved accuracy, efficiency, and generalization capabilities compared to existing models. © 2024 - IOS Press. All rights reserved.

In recent years, IoT has transformed personal environments by integrating diverse smart devices. This paper presents an advanced IoT architecture that optimizes network infrastructure, focusing on the adoption of MQTT protocol and introducing Cognitive Smart Objects for managing personal IoT applications. These objects use Neural Networks to predict optimal actions based on user behavior patterns. A Continuous Learning mechanism enables real-time adaptation of the network to evolving user interactions. The characterization of some important attributes in a given context is considered as one of the prominent issues for the decision making process. Same time another problem arises approximation of uncertainty and its graphical structure visualization. To resolve this issue, algebra of rough sets and its extensive properties is utilized in this paper. Extensively, current paper focuses on introducing R–Rough graph visualization of given context and its characterization in positive, negative and boundary regions based on user defined subset of granulation. This paper presents a novel medical imaging framework, Efficient Parallel Deep Transfer SubNet+-based Explainable Model (EPDTNet + -EM), designed to improve the detection and classification of abnormalities in medical images. The model integrates Enhanced Exponential Transfer Learning (En-ETL) and the Parallel SubNet (PSNet +) architecture, addressing challenges like overfitting, high computational cost, and limited generalization across complex datasets. En-ETL accelerates learning and enhances precision, while PSNet + balances computational efficiency and performance through parallel convolutional layers and an axis attention mechanism. The proposed framework preprocesses medical images using resizing, noise removal, and contrast enhancement, ensuring high-quality inputs for analysis. For classification, the PSNet + model categorizes medical images into normal and abnormal cases. Explainable AI (XAI) is applied to highlight key features in classified images, improving interpretability and clinical decision-making. Experimental results validate the framework on various datasets, including MRI, CT, X-ray, and mammography images. The proposed model achieves a classification accuracy of 98.83%, a false positive rate of 2%, and an execution time of 5.3 ms. Comparative Analysis show superior performance over existing approaches in classification accuracy and efficiency. Ablation studies confirmed the significant contributions of the proposed model using each component in enhancing performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Manhattan-based k-member clustering and enhanced rabbit optimization algorithm for k-anonymization in social network

Online social networks are becoming more and more popular, according to recent trends. The user's primary concern is the secure preservation of their data and privacy. A well-known method for preventing individual identity in publicly accessible datasets is K-anonymization. Existing anonymity techniques' primary drawback is that they're susceptible to similarity and attribute disclosure attacks. Furthermore, a large amount of data has been lost in the given database. To address this limitation, the proposed model integrated an anonymizing algorithm with Manhattan-based k-member clustering and an enhanced rabbit optimization algorithm (MKCAEROA). The Manhattan distance-based k member (MKCA) clustering algorithm is employed in this case to cluster the initial database. The resulting clusters are then further optimized, and the original database is made anonymous, using the enhanced rabbit optimization algorithm (EROA). In the suggested model, EROA is included to satisfy the specified anonymity constraints while concurrently minimizing the clustering error rate and the generated information loss. When compared to existing approaches, the experimental results demonstrate that the suggested method provides the highest clustering accuracy with the least amount of information loss. Spatial attention-based hybrid VGG-SVM and VGG-RF frameworks for improved cotton leaf disease detection

The agriculture industry's production and food quality have been impacted by plant leaf diseases in recent years. Hence, it is vital to have a system that can automatically identify and diagnose diseases at an initial stage for enhancing the quality of agricultural output and also for stopping the overall plant extinction. Most state-of-the-art methods do not provide appropriate accuracy of identification when the similarity among different diseases is higher and the input leaf images have complex background. In this work, a transfer learning-based automated crop disease recognition system is proposed to handle this problem. The cotton leaf disease detection framework being proposed here includes two key stages: (1) the feature extraction stage, where the convolutional neural network (CNN) model from the visual geometry group (VGG-16) is employed to obtain the deep features from cotton leaf images with complex background. (2) Cotton leaf disease detection stage: Here, the extracted optimal features are input to the machine learning classifiers, namely random forest (RF) and nonlinear support vector machine (SVM), for the initial classification of the diseases. For providing an optimal cotton crop disease detection performance, Kaggle’s four-class cotton disease dataset with complex background is chosen in this work. For the final decision making and analysis, two hybrid models named spatial attention-based hybrid VGG-RF and hybrid VGG-SVM have been proposed in this work for enhancing the decision accuracy. These hybrid models offered an average accuracy of approximately 98.29% and 99.31%, respectively, which is higher than the accuracy provided by the related work. This proved that the proposed hybrid model, namely spatial attention-based VGG-SVM and VGG-RF models, with spatial attention outperformed the state-of-the-art classifiers. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.
