Modules that are swapped dynamically at run-time on an FPGA have varying communication needs over time. In order to support this, we aim to generate a wiring infrastructure that caters for the dynamically-changing module interfaces. This, however, imposes a regular structure for laying out modules on a device, which may result in longer inter-module wiring paths as compared to traditional methods where the netlists are flattened. This paper studies placing modules within a structured layout to compare resulting circuit speeds with those obtained by traditional methods. Our results indicate that the difference in critical path delay is high at very low utilisation, but that the overhead is absorbed as the number of modules and interconnection density increases to realistic levels. The authors conclude that implementing such a wiring infrastructure has manageable overheads while having the added advantage of being amenable to dynamic reconfiguration

Artificial neural networks can be trained to predict outcomes in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This paper expands on past research and shows that neural networks trained by the maximum likelihood estimation criterion will approximate the `a posteriori probability' of NICU mortality. A gradient ascent method for the weight update of three-layer feed-forward neural networks was derived. The neural networks were trained on NICU data and the results were evaluated by performance measurement techniques, such as the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve and the Hosmer-Lemeshow test. A challenge of existing program comprehension approaches is to provide consistent and flexible representations for software systems. Maintainers have to match their mental models with the different representations these tools provide. In this paper, we present a novel approach that addresses this issue by providing a consistent ontological representation for both source code and documentation. The ontological representation unifies information from various sources, and therefore reduces the maintainers' comprehension efforts. In addition, representing software artifacts in a formal ontology enables maintainers to formulate hypotheses about various properties of software systems. These hypotheses can be validated through an iterative exploration of information derived by our ontology inference engine. The implementation of our approach is presented in detail, and a case study is provided to demonstrate the applicability of our approach during the architectural evolution of a Web site content management system

Many teachers and researchers put their teaching materials on the Internet for students to read in recent years. This sort of teaching materials could be seen as static because students can only follow the learning sequence made by teachers in advance. The goal of this paper is trying to develop a tool, K-Navi toolbar, to parse and rebuild teaching materials' hypermedia structures according to the concept relations and extracted rules automatically. K-Navi toolbar first uses the formal concept analysis (FCA) to parse the whole set of teaching materials and gets the embedded concept relations between each of two instructional documents; then uses the association rule methodology (ARM) to extract the rules from the concept lattices; and, finally rebuilds the hypermedia structure of the instructional document read by the student automatically. K-Navi toolbar adds related concept hyperlinks (or says links to other knowledge pieces) into the specific position on the instructional hypermedia document automatically when a student asks the document resource. A student then will be able to dig related knowledge pieces via these relevant hyperlinks.
