Smart Grid Energy Management (SGEM) denotes the function of optimizing energy flow in the grid while enhancing grid efficiency and stability. One major issue is that increased integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) may add a layer of complexity to EM, which may, in turn, reduce the reliability and stability of the grid. Keeping such challenges in mind, this paper proposes the Osprey Optimization Algorithm (OOA) on its part to enhance SGEM through various facets of load balancing and energy distribution. The objective of this method is to minimize the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), enhancing the precision of energy predictions and optimizing grid performance. The OOA optimizes energy distribution in micro grids, improving efficiency and reducing power losses. The performance of the suggested OOA method is assessed by contrasting it with other optimization approaches that are currently in use, including Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Multi Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA), Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA), and Multi Objective Wind Driven Optimization (MOWDO). The OOA method is implemented on the MATLAB platform. The outcomes show that the proposed OOA method provides superior performance in minimizing MAPE, achieving the lowest MAPE value of 0.28%, indicating its enhanced accuracy in energy demand forecasting and optimization.

A reduced codebook and re-interpolation approach for enhancing quality in chroma subsampling

Prior to encoding RGB full-color images or Bayer color filter array (CFA) images, chroma subsampling is a necessary and crucial step at the server side. In this paper, we first propose a flow diagram approach to analyze the coordinate-inconsistency (CI) problem and the upsampling process-inconsistency (UPI) problem existing in the traditional and state-of-the-art chroma subsampling methods under the current coding environment. In addition, we explain why the two problems degrade the quality of the reconstructed images. Next, we propose a reduced codebook and re-interpolation (RCRI) approach to solve the two problems for enhancing the quality of the reconstructed images. Based on the testing RGB full-color images and Bayer CFA images, the comprehensive experimental results demonstrated at least 1.4 dB and 2.4 dB quality improvement effects, respectively, of our RCRI approach against the CI and UPI problems for the traditional and state-of-the-art chroma subsampling methods. A plasmonic tracker had been developed for detecting a plasmonic energy at Total Internal Reflectance angle. It is crucial to determine thin film thicknesses, resonance angle and refractive index of a dielectric material. However, a low cost and flexible plasmonic tracker could offers a precise control for accurate measurement system. The main objective is to develop manual, automated and smart control of the plasmonic tracker at high resolution via a PC based system. The plasmonic tracker uses two 1.8° bipolar stepper motor as a prism and silicon photodiode stages. Both of the stepper motors were operated in microstepping that generate 3200 steps at 0.1125° pulse per step. A stable microstepping operation was observed at distance, period, phase angle, torque, RPM and power respectively at 1250 mm/ sec, 90 μS, 3.4°, 0.22 Nm, 200 RPM and 4.64 W. A plasmonic curve and resonance angle were plotted and displayed from a customized software interface which provides high sensitivity, throughput, performance and efficiency.

The chapter starts with a historical summary of first attempts to optimize the spin glass Hamiltonian, comparing it to recent results on searching largest cliques in random graphs. Exact algorithms to find ground states in generic spin glass models are then explored in section 1.2, while section 1.3 is dedicated to the bidimensional case where polynomial algorithms exist and allow for the study of much larger systems. This study aims to monitor element-specific nutrient information during hydroponic cultivation by IoT-interfaced miniaturized ion sensors. Because of size, cost, and manufacturing advantages, solid-contact ion-selective electrodes (SCISEs) were fabricated as an ion sensor array and interfaced with wireless embedded-systems to construct an IoT nutrient sensor system (IoNSS) for the first time. The entire IoNSS framework was composed of (i) a nutrient solution sampling and sensing module with SCISEs controlled by an Arduino Due® microcontroller, (ii) a Wio Terminal® microcontroller for automated procedure setting, data recording, and wireless transmission, (iii) a private cloud server (a Network Attached Storage equipped with Node-RED® and MongoDB®) for data management, and (iv) MQTT webpage-based interactive interfaces. In experiments, we found that potentiometric signal resolution and noise of the Arduino-interfaced SCISEs were significantly improved and approached to instrumental DAQ-like quality by additional delta-sigma ADC (ADS1115®) chip conditioning. This facilitated cost-effective harvest of precise and high-quality IoT ion sensor data. Before on-site applications, each SCISE was two-point calibrated in multiple-ion solutions and was checked with the fixed interference method. The ion concentration measurements were also compared with those of commercial ISEs and ion chromatography. To test the system's feasibility, the IoNSS was applied to cyber-monitoring of K+, NO3–, and NH4+ concentrations during two-week hydroponic cultivation of arugula (E. vesicaria) in an indoor plant factory (in Northern Taiwan) with a modified Cornell solution and an outdoor greenhouse (in Southern Taiwan) with a modified Yamasaki solution, respectively. This paper studies a last-mile optimization problem faced by the world's largest online-only grocery retailer. The studied routing problem is modeled as a very large-scale dynamic multi-depot vehicle routing problem with time windows, where the input is updated frequently during the optimization phase. To optimize a set of vehicle routes, we present an enhanced local search-based simulated annealing algorithm combined with a very large neighborhood search algorithm. To dynamically minimize the number of routes, we present a new strategy that does not explicitly reduce the number of routes, but dynamically adjusts the number of customers per route. Experimental results show that when the proposed algorithm is applied to solve multiple-depot cases, the results are better than solving several single-depot cases using the current optimizer. The results also highlight that the proposed approach saves the use of several to tens of vehicles and leads to millions of dollars of estimated profit increases. © 2023, The Authors. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of working memory, a crucial cognitive construct for learning, reasoning, and intellectual abilities. It introduces Baddeley and Hitch’s multi-component model, highlighting the construct’s essential role in facilitating learning, comprehension, problem-solving, and attention. The paper then analyzes four key models: Baddeley’s multicomponent framework, Cowan’s integrated memory network model, Engle’s attentional control-based model, and Oberauer’s tripartite structure, exploring their shared and differing perspectives. Recent studies on working memory using electroencephalogram are reviewed, identifying core frequency bands associated with cognitive states and predicting individual working memory capacity from electroencephalogram. Conventional working memory assessment methods are also discussed, emphasizing their relative advantages and limitations based on specific goals and practical considerations. Overall, this paper integrates theoretical models, neural correlates, and practical applications to provide a comprehensive overview of working memory research, highlighting its interdisciplinary nature for future studies.

An effective backward filter pruning algorithm using K1,n bipartite graph-based clustering and the decreasing pruning rate approach

Setting a fixed pruning rate and/or specified threshold for pruning filters in convolutional layers has been widely used to reduce the number of parameters required in the convolutional neural networks (CNN) model. However, it fails to fully prune redundant filters for different layers whose redundant filters vary with layers. To overcome this disadvantage, we propose a new backward filter pruning algorithm using a sorted bipartite graph- and binary search-based (SBGBS-based) clustering and decreasing pruning rate (DPR) approach. We first represent each filter of the last layer by a bipartite graph K1,n, with one root mean set and one n-weight set, where n denotes the number of weights in the filter. Next, according to the accuracy loss tolerance, an SBGBS-based clustering method is used to partition all filters into clusters as maximal as possible. Then, for each cluster, we retain the filter corresponding to the bipartite graph with the median root mean among n root means in the cluster, but we discard the other filters in the same cluster. Following the DPR approach, we repeat the above SBGBS-based filtering pruning approach to the backward layer until all layers are processed. Based on the CIFAR-10 and MNIST datasets, the proposed filter pruning algorithm has been deployed into VGG-16, AlexNet, LeNet, and ResNet. With similar accuracy, the thorough experimental results have demonstrated the substantial parameters and floating-point operations reduction merits of our filter pruning algorithm relative to the existing filter pruning methods. © 2021, CC BY.

Palladium is the most prominent material in both scientific and industrial research on gas storage,purification,detection,and catalysis due to its unique properties as a catalyst and hydrogen *** the dynamic optical phenomena of palladium reacting with hydrogen,transduction of the gas-matter reaction into light-matter interaction is attempted to visualize the dynamic surface chemistry and reaction *** simple geometry of the metal-dielectric-metal structure,Fabry-Perot etalon,is employed for a colorimetric reactor,to display the catalytic reaction of the exposed gas via water-film/bubble formation at the dielectric/palladium *** adsorption/desorption behavior and catalytic reaction of hydrogen and oxygen on the palladium surface display highly repeatable and dramatic color changes based on two distinct water formation trends:the foggy effect by water bubbles and the whiteout effect by water film *** and experiments demonstrate the robustness of the proposed Fabry-Perot etalon as an excellent platform for monitoring the opto-physical phenomena driven by heterogeneous catalysis.
