The QRS complex is the most prominent feature of the electrocardiogram (ECG) that is used as a marker to identify the cardiac cycles. Identification of QRS complex locations enables arrhythmia detection and heart rate variability estimation. Therefore, accurate and consistent localization of the QRS complex is an important component of automated ECG analysis which is necessary for the early detection of cardiovascular diseases. This study evaluates the performance of six popular publicly available QRS complex detection methods on a large dataset of over half a million ECGs in a diverse population of patients. We found that a deep-learning method that won first place in the 2019 Chinese physiological challenge (CPSC-1) outperforms the remaining five QRS complex detection methods with an F1 score of 98.8% and an absolute sdRR error of 5.5 ms. We also examined the stratified performance of the studied methods on various cardiac conditions. All six methods had a lower performance in the detection of QRS complexes in ECG signals of patients with pacemakers, complete atrioventricular block, or indeterminate cardiac axis. We also concluded that, in the presence of different cardiac conditions, CPSC-1 is more robust than Pan-Tompkins which is the most popular model for QRS complex detection. We expect that this study can potentially serve as a guide for researchers on the appropriate QRS detection method for their target *** Relevance—This study highlights the overall performance of publicly available QRS detection algorithms in a large dataset of diverse patients. We showed that there are specific cardiac conditions that are associated with the poor performance of QRS detection algorithms and may adversely influence the performance of algorithms that rely on accurate and reliable QRS detection.

Efficient drone swarm management requires real-time adaptive optimization and secure decentralized communication to ensure robust performance in dynamic environments. Traditional optimization methods such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithms (GA) suffer from premature convergence and lack the adaptability required for large-scale swarm coordination. Similarly, centralized communication frameworks introduce security vulnerabilities, including single points of failure and susceptibility to cyberattacks. This study presents a novel integration of Adaptive Differential Evolution (ADE) and blockchain technology, leveraging ADE’s dynamic parameter tuning to improve swarm intelligence while utilizing blockchain’s decentralized ledger to secure inter-drone communication. The proposed framework was evaluated through extensive simulations on drone swarms ranging from 20 to 200 drones, demonstrating a 27% improvement in convergence speed and a 35% increase in task efficiency compared to PSO-based methods. Blockchain integration ensured 99.3% data integrity, preventing unauthorized modifications and cyber threats such as man-in-the-middle attacks and data corruption attempts. Energy consumption analysis indicated that ADE reduced power usage by 18% compared to traditional heuristic approaches. Additionally, adversarial testing revealed that denial-of-service (DoS) resilience improved by 42% due to the blockchain’s consensus validation mechanisms. These results highlight the feasibility of secure and adaptive drone swarm management, making it suitable for real-world applications in disaster response, autonomous surveillance, and smart logistics.

This paper presents the development of a Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) stimulator system intended for use in early clinical trials for motor recovery after Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). It allows for independent control of multisite/multilevel bilateral (on both sides of the spinal cord) stimulation, it can supply a high output current of 25.4mA, and has the ability to program pulse sequences similar to actual locomotion patterns. These characteristics ultimately provide the required versatility for examining the effects of DRG stimulation on locomotion recovery, which is lacking in currently available commercial systems. The device is created using commercially available components to make the design reproducible by other research labs and to facilitate the critical approval procedure for use in a clinical research environment. Throughout the design phase, essential considerations regarding the safety of the participating patient, as well as of the medical personnel involved, were taken into account and these are analyzed and demonstrated in this paper. Such considerations are very rarely discussed in scientific literature and the authors consider that, apart from the design of the system itself, this discussion is a critical contribution of this paper.

The exploration of rational solutions of first and second orders, along with the investigation of modulation instability, has been conducted in the left-handed coplanar waveguide based on split-ring resonators. This study is inspired by the research of \cite{M18}, where solitonic rogue wave structures were derived as manifestations of the growth rate of modulation instability. Under this argument, we have used the perturbations method to derive the Kundu-Eckhaus equation to analyze the characteristics of the high-order rogue waves. Beside these findings, we have realized that rogue wave structures are propagated in the left-handed frequency bands. We also notice that modulation instability growth develops in the frequency bands when the product of the nonlinearity coefficient and dispersion coefficient is positive. Through a numerical simulation, we have developed the rogue wave objects to confirm our analytical predictions. Another significant aspect addressed in this study is the sensitivity of both modulation instability and higher-order rogue waves to the normalized parameter introduced through the third-order expansion of the voltage-dependent capacitance and perturbed wave number. The long-lived results have been equally validated for specific times of propagation. Accelerating hydrodynamic simulations of urban drainage systems with physics-guided machine learning

We propose and demonstrate a new approach for fast and accurate surrogate modelling of urban drainage system hydraulics based on physics-guided machine learning. The surrogates are trained against a limited set of simulation results from a hydrodynamic (HiFi) model. Our approach reduces simulation times by one to two orders of magnitude compared to a HiFi model. It is thus slower than e.g. conceptual hydrological models, but it enables simulations of water levels, flows and surcharges in all nodes and links of a drainage network and thus largely preserves the level of detail provided by HiFi models. Comparing time series simulated by the surrogate and the HiFi model, R2 values in the order of 0.9 are achieved. Surrogate training times are currently in the order of one hour. However, they can likely be reduced through the application of transfer learning and graph neural networks. Our surrogate approach will be useful for interactive workshops in initial design phases of urban drainage systems, as well as for real time applications. Robust orbit determination requires iterative multiple hypothesis analysis with the goal of using evidence to infer the most plausible states and model parameters regarding the behavior of an anthropogenic space object (a.k.a. a spacecraft) as possible, a process that can be both time and labor intensive. To increase the efficiency and accuracy of this analysis, we provide an analytic application capable of comprehensively and concurrently displaying multiple orbit determination solutions, leveraging contemporary data visualization techniques. This work details the design and visualization decisions made in the creation of the "Orbit Determination Dashboard," a tool aimed at giving users an interactive work-space for understanding how changes to input parameters defining the space environment, spacecraft features, sensor models and more affect their orbit determination solutions. © 2021, Univelt Inc. Timely diagnosis is important for saving the life of epileptic patients. In past few years, a lot of treatments are available for epilepsy. These treatments require use of anti-seizure drugs but are not effective in controlling frequency of seizure. There is need of removal of an affected region using surgery. Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a widely used technique for monitoring the brain activity and widely popular for seizure region detection. It is used before surgery for locating affected region. This manual process, using EEG graphs, is time consuming and requires deep expertise. In the present paper, a model has been proposed that preserves the true nature of an EEG signal in form of textual one-dimensional vector. The proposed model achieves a state of art performance for Bonn University dataset giving an average sensitivity, specificity of 81% and 81.4% respectively for classification of EEG data among all five classes. Also for binary classification achieving 99.9%, 99.5% score value for specificity and sensitivity instead of 2D models used by other researchers. Thus, developed system will significantly help neurosurgeons in the increase of their performance. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Nano-constriction spin-Hall nano-oscillators (NC-SHNOs) have garnered considerable interest due to their potential use as efficient and adjustable nano-sized sources of microwave signals, with high-frequency tunability, adaptable design layout, and CMOS compatibility. In order to facilitate system- and circuit-level designs based on the NC-SHNOs, it is essential to have an analytical model capable of predicting the behavior of the NC-SHNO. In this paper, we introduce an analytical model to describe the frequency behavior of a single NC-SHNO in an in-plane magnetic field while considering the Oersted field. The model is divided into two regions based on the direct current value: the "linear-like" and "bullet" modes. Each region is characterized by distinct concepts and equations. The first region, the "linear-like mode," emerges from the nano-constriction edges and progresses toward the center of the active area of the NC-SHNO. In contrast, the second regime, the localized "bullet mode," exhibits negative nonlinearity, where increasing the current will lead to a decrease in frequency. The model's validity is confirmed through experimental data obtained from electrical RF measurements on a single 180nm wide NC-SHNO, and the model demonstrates excellent agreement with experimental data. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Social media is a growing field, mostly everyone is availing the benefits of it. It seems that overuse of this technology may cripple academic standards of our next generations. Nevertheless research studies in this direction is limited, and recent information systems scholars has warranted more research in this direction. The motive of this study is to explore how excessive social media use affects students' academic performance and come up with a suggestion to reduce social media usage and increase educational learning of an individual. Using primary data collected from Pakistani university students, 265 entries were analyzed using SPSS tool. Findings suggest that usage of social networking sites has a significant result on undue use of social media. Furthermore, results also indicated that unwarranted use of social media has a detrimental effect on learning performance. Results also supported the idea that student technology self-efficacy diminishes the undesirable association between excessive social media use and academic performance.

Lead-free composite ceramics, 0.7Bi0.95Sm0.05Fe1-xGaxO3-0.3BaTiO3 (BSFGx-BT), were made using a solid-state reaction method for x = 2.5, 5, 10, 15, and 20%. We have investigated the effects of Samarium (Sm) and Gallium (Ga) co-doping on the crystal structure, topography, spectroscopy, electrical and multiferroic characteristics of the 0.7BiFeO3-0.3BaTiO3 (0.7BFO-0.3BTO) system for piezoelectric applications. The structural results indicate that the composite ceramics exhibited rhombohedra R and tetragonal T phases characterized by R3c and P4mm space groups, respectively which was also further confirmed by X-ray Rietveld refinement pattern analysis. In dielectric behaviour study high Curie temperature of 550 oC was obtained with high temperature stability. Furthermore, the study investigated the effects of grain and grain boundaries on capacitive and resistive properties. The ceramics displayed the characteristics of the negative temperature coefficient of resistance (NTCR). It was observed that as the Ga concentration increased, the grain resistance (Rb) also increased, reaching its maximum value for x =10%. Additionally, at higher temperatures, this composite exhibited lower electrical resistivity. Importantly, the ceramics showed the co-existence of ferromagnetic and ferroelectric behaviour with the enhanced values of remanent magnetization (Mr)= 0.043 emu/g, coercivity (Hc) = 5730 Oe and remanent polarization (Pr) = 6.07 µC/cm2, coercive field (Ec) = 6.78 kV/cm for the composition x =10%. These findings suggest that Sm & Ga incorporated 0.7BFO-0.3BTO composite ceramics can show promising high-temperature piezoelectric applications. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
