Efficacy of Ensemble Learning Method over Individual Classifier for Rainfall Forecasting in Eastern India

Severe rainfall has seriously threatened human health and survival. Natural catastrophes such as floods, droughts, and many other natural disasters are caused by heavy rains, which people worldwide have to deal with throughout the year. Accurate rainfall forecasting is essential in nations like India where cultivation is the main occupation. Machine learning (ML) techniques are more effective than many other strategies because of the unpredictable nature of rainfall. Ensemble learning (EL) methods yield higher accuracy than ML specific classifiers. Therefore, this paper proposes an EL-based prediction model for not only a specific state of India but for the entire eastern India region, which includes ten states: West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Meghalaya. We acquired the rainfall data for eastern India using NASA’s power data access view for 22 years (2000–2021). In this model, apart from classification feature selection is done using Pearson correlation and ANOVA. This study looks at the accuracy of several different classifiers, including DT, LR, and SVM. The acceptable accuracy of 96.53% for rainfall prediction in eastern India was determined using an ensemble model that includes the XGBoost ensemble technique and the classifiers DT, LR, and SVM. The findings of our experiment reveal that EL-based prediction model outperforms the individual classifiers utilized in the experiment. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.

Multilevel characterization of unknown protein sequences using hierarchical long short term memory model

Multilevel characterization of the recently developed Unknown Protein Sequence (UPS) is significant for the drug-designing, disease-diagnosis, and treatment plans. UPS can demonstrate harmful as well as useful characters. Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) based Multilevel Protein Characterization (ML_PC) model using Neuro-Fuzzy Classifier (NFC) and transfer learning has been proposed in this paper for characteristics, species, and function prediction of the UPS. Gram Negative (GN) dataset with known 2286 protein sequences, is used for formation and validation of the ML_PC model. Thereafter NFC is applied at initial stage of the validated ML_PC model to filter the 518 independent protein sequences of the UPS dataset as GN or Non-GN in context with known GN dataset. However, NFC is competent to handle likelihood classification complications of supervised learning. Characteristics, species, and functions of the filtered GN UPS have been predicted in succeeding levels of the ML_PC framework through Protein Characterization (PC) model. LSTM and transfer learning based PC model has been trained and validated using augmented feature of the known GN protein sequence samples, while tested with UPS and filtered GN protein sequences. Transfer learning has been applied as requisite postprocessing to overcome overfitting in the prediction of bacterial protein species with insufficient protein sequence samples. Performance of the multilevel model is improved by 7.52% after combining with transfer learning and NFC. ML_PC model has been compatible to extract relevant biological information of the UPS in context to various categories of bacterial proteins. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

ImageNet Classification Using WordNet Hierarchy

Convolutional neural networks (ConvNets) have become increasingly popular for image classification tasks. All contemporary computer vision problems are being dominated by ConvNets. Conventional training methods using cross-entropy loss for training have constantly outperformed the state-of-the-art technique to set a new standard in the ImageNet classification challenge. However, growing accuracy come at the cost of enormous number of parameters and computations. Further, classical learning algorithms do not utilize the semantic relationship between the classes present in the dataset. Thus, interpreting the behavior of the model become difficult even though the results may be desirable. Hence, we demonstrate a classification method by leveraging the WordNet hierarchy on the ImageNet dataset to establish class relationships and label embedding. The model is trained using cross entropy with soft labels based on the semantic similarity between the generated output and the ground truth. Unlike categorical cross entropy, it does not treat every predicted label as equally erroneous. The method generates meaningful neighboring classes in the feature space of the true label. © 2020 IEEE.

Breast cancer is a devastating disease that affects women worldwide, and computer-aided algorithms have shown potential in automating cancer diagnosis. Recently Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) opens new possibilities for addressing the challenges of labeled data scarcity and accurate prediction in critical applications. However, a lack of diversity, as well as unrealistic and unreliable data, have a detrimental impact on performance. Therefore, this study proposes an augmentation scheme to address the scarcity of labeled data and data imbalance in medical datasets. This approach integrates the concepts of the Gaussian-Laplacian pyramid and pyramid blending with similarity measures. In order to maintain the structural properties of images and capture inter-variability of patient images of the same category similarity-metric-based intermixing has been introduced. It helps to maintain the overall quality and integrity of the dataset. Subsequently, deep learning approach with significant modification, that leverages transfer learning through the usage of concatenated pre-trained models is applied to classify breast cancer histopathological images. The effectiveness of the proposal, including the impact of data augmentation, is demonstrated through a detailed analysis of three different medical datasets, showing significant performance improvement over baseline models. The proposal has the potential to contribute to the development of more accurate and reliable approach for breast cancer diagnosis. © 2013 IEEE.

By integrating smart grid technology with home energy management systems, households can monitor and optimise their energy consumption. This allows for more efficient use of energy resources, reducing waste and lowering energy bills. In this manuscript, a hybrid approach is proposed for smart grid home energy management with microgrids and day-ahead energy forecasts. The proposed control approach combines the Circle Search (CS) algorithm and Recalling-Enhanced Recurrent Neural Network (RERNN). Commonly it is named as CS-RERNN technique. The novelty of this paper is to optimise energy consumption and production within microgrids, thereby contributing to the overall efficiency of the smart grid system. The proposed method is used to reduce the electricity cost, peak-to-average ratio (PAR), and maximising consumer comfort. Energy management is performed based on the CS algorithm. A smart home connected to the external power grid (PG) is managed by the proposed method. Here, load demand is predicted by using RERNN. By then, the performance of the proposed method is implemented in MATLAB platform. The proposed method shows a high efficiency of 96%, and 22 $ of low electricity bill cost compared with other existing methods such as Particle swarm optimisation (PSO), Cuckoo search algorithm (CSA, and Border collie Optimisation (BCO). ©, Engineers Australia.

The amount of complicated texts and documents that require a deeper understanding of machine learning techniques has expanded rapidly in recent decades. Several machine learning approaches have shown exceptional results in NLP. Complex models and non-linear data correlations help these learning systems function well. It is difficult for academics to discover appropriate text classification structures, designs, and procedures. Manually reading and classifying a book's category would be tedious. It takes a long time for a language beginner to absorb the complete text in order to discern its genre. Natural Language Processing (NLP), which is commonly used nowadays, can help overcome this issue. It includes text classification and summarization. The book synopsis is input to the Machine Learning algorithms, which output the genre. This review includes text feature extraction, dimensionality reduction, algorithms, and evaluation. Analyzing functional, technical and bibliometric trends of blockchain applications in education: A systematic review

In an educational ecosystem, accurate and complete management of student’s records is a complex and error-prone process. Blockchain is a promising solution to add substantial value around enhanced efficiency, privacy protection, technological advancement, access control, and secure exchange of student course records. This work presents a systematic literature review to analyze the applications of blockchain technology in the educational domain addressing the gaps identified in the previous reviews. The technical papers published in English were searched by key terms related to blockchain and education on IEEE Xplore, science Direct, and six other databases. The risk of bias was assessed by considering all the crucial search terms preventing the accidental exclusion of any article. Many blockchain frameworks in the educational domain have been proposed;including some prototypes and implementations. The PRISMA framework was used for the evaluation of 150 distinct models, 124 of which were prototypes, pilots, or full implementation and the remaining 26 were only proposals. This work contributes a structured bibliometric, functional, and technical examination of these articles, assessing privacy, cost, performance, security, architecture, and standards to identify and bridge gaps. The study concludes an avalanche of proposals, with approximately half of them being prototypes, indicating that implementation and proof-of-concept pilots are expected. Blockchain is found to solve various record management issues at significant trade-offs between performance, storage, and cost. However, scalability issues, poor overall performance, and increased price are major limitations for implementing blockchain in education solutions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Advancing automotive high-performance computing: integrating direction API with LORA technology in unified machine vision for future smart cars

This manuscript addresses the challenges in developing Automotive High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems for Future Smart Cars and Unmanned Mobile Vehicles (UMVs). We introduce a novel Unified Machine Vision (UMV) narrative methodology for operators overseeing UMVs. The integration of diverse sensors, Direction API software, and LoRa communication technology presents significant technical hurdles. To tackle these, we focus on integrating Direction API with LoRa in UMVs, incorporating open-source natural interaction OpenNI, and haptic driver inputs into the Master Control System (MCS). The MCS, using the Comp-GAP algorithm, serves as the central interface between the driver and machinery sensors, effectively managing commands to achieve multifaceted objectives. Additionally, we present the CCHA, CROMM-MSV parallel algorithm to mitigate power consumption issues in autonomous vehicles via centralized HPC. This new centralized Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) methodology optimizes UMV energy consumption in air and enhances operational efficiency through parallel HPC techniques. Simulation results demonstrate stable behavior in parallel processing, validating the proposed methodologies. In summary, this manuscript offers a robust framework for HPC systems in Future Smart Cars and UMVs, paving the way for improved navigation and vehicular control. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Unique hash value based identical video sharing traffic flow optimization across social networks

Identical video sharing across social networks results in redundant video data traffic, consuming additional bandwidth, storage resources, and data usage. A novel method is proposed to optimise redundant video-sharing services across social media applications exclusively on the push model, which is based on creating a unique hash value identity (UHVID) to identify the video distinctly. The UHVID is generated based on the centroid of gradient orientation of the key frames. The key frames are extracted from the video based on colour histogram and structural differences. Using UHVID and video metadata, the server application validates and optimizes identical video content flow before actual video sharing. The end users’ privacy is not affected in the proposed framework, as the actual video is not used for comparison, only the hash values of the video. The statistical analysis has shown that in 14 test cases of 2700 traffic initiations and 39,180 transactions, 83.2% of redundant data of identical videos were optimised, resulting in 63.61% data savings, amounting to 19.75 GB. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
