A Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer-based Multi-hop Clustering Routing Protocol for RF Energy Harvesting-Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks

Radio frequency energy harvesting (RF EH) and clustering are promising solutions to solve the energy constraint problem faced by cognitive radio sensor networks (CRSNs). However, study on clustering routing protocol design for RF EH-CRSNs is still in the initial stage, and there lacks of solutions for inter-cluster routing problem, which restricts the network scalability. In addition, unbalanced harvested energy and energy consumption may result in premature death of nodes in key position, which will significantly reduce the network performance. In this paper, a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-based multi-hop clustering routing protocol (SMCRP) is proposed for RF EH-CRSNs to well balance the residual energy distribution among nodes and postpone node death. Apart from the RF energy harvested from dedicated or ambi-ent energy sources, the energy obtained through intra-cluster and inter-cluster SWIPT is also considered to facilitate high-quality cluster heads selection, cluster formation and inter-cluster route establishment. Power splitting ratio is derived based on the residual energy of CRSNs nodes and their energy consumption to enable effective implementation of SWIPT in CRSNs. Simulation results show that SMCRP is effective in balancing the residual energy distribution among nodes and improving node sustainability. To be specific, compared with current clustering protocols, the network lifetime is extended by 64.07% while intra-cluster energy balance degree and network energy balance degree are improved by 15.1% and 7.82%, respectively. © 2023 ISSN 2414-8105 (Online).

Robust registration is able to register the complementary information captured by multimodal images. Owning to the nonlinear intensity differences and repeating patterns in multimodal images, many classic descriptors are unable to achieve good performance. Aiming at this problem, a remote sensing image registration method based on key point description and filtering is proposed. First, this work utilizes a new keypoint descriptor with Log-Gabor filters to characterize the oriented phase congruency information in multimodal images. Then, a keypoint filtering is performed on all descriptors by mean-shift clustering to remove the repeating patterns. This approach is evaluated on three commonly used data sets, which are used for structure map construction and image registration comparisons. The experimental results show that the proposed method is able to preserve highly similar structure features and remove most repeating keypoints in multimodal images, which indicates this method is efficient and can achieve good registration performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Question-Answer Cross Language Image Matching for Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Class Activation Map (CAM) has emerged as a popular tool for weakly supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS), allowing the localization of object regions in an image using only image-level labels. However, existing CAM methods suffer from under-activation of target object regions and false-activation of background regions due to the fact that a lack of detailed supervision can hinder the model’s ability to understand the image as a whole. In this paper, we propose a novel Question-Answer Cross-Language-Image Matching framework for WSSS (QA-CLIMS), leveraging the vision-language foundation model to maximize the text-based understanding of images and guide the generation of activation maps. First, a series of carefully designed questions are posed to the VQA (Visual Question Answering) model with Question-Answer Prompt engineering (QAPE) to generate a corpus of both foreground target objects and backgrounds that are adaptive to query images. We then employ contrastive learning in a Region Image Text Contrastive (RITC) network to compare the obtained foreground and background regions with the generated corpus. Our approach exploits the rich textual information from the open vocabulary as additional supervision, enabling the model to generate high-quality CAMs with a more complete object region and reduce false-activation of background regions. We conduct extensive analysis to validate the proposed method and show that our approach performs state-of-the-art on both PASCAL VOC 2012 and MS COCO datasets. The Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBOOST), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Random Forest (RF) machine learning (ML) algorithms are used in this research to give a comparative study of solar energy production forecasting in Morocco. The models were developed, trained, and then assessed. In this paper, two metrics were employed to evaluate the models' performance: Mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean squared error (RMSE). The models' performances show that ANN is the most reliable predictive model for energy forecasting in similar scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

The gait, as a kind of soft biometric characteristic, can reflect the distinct walking patterns of individuals at a distance, exhibiting a promising technique for unrestrained human identification. With largely excluding gait-unrelated cues hidden in RGB videos, the silhouette and skeleton, though visually compact, have acted as two of the most prevailing gait modalities for a long time. Recently, several attempts have been made to introduce more informative data forms like human parsing and optical flow images to capture gait characteristics, along with multi-branch architectures. However, due to the inconsistency within model designs and experiment settings, we argue that a comprehensive and fair comparative study among these popular gait modalities, involving the representational capacity and fusion strategy exploration, is still lacking. From the perspectives of fine vs. coarse-grained shape and whole vs. pixel-wise motion modeling, this work presents an in-depth investigation of three popular gait representations, i.e., silhouette, human parsing, and optical flow, with various fusion evaluations, and experimentally exposes their similarities and differences. Based on the obtained insights, we further develop a C2Fusion strategy, consequently building our new framework MultiGait++. C2Fusion preserves commonalities while highlighting differences to enrich the learning of gait features. Toward High-Accuracy 3D Creation of Aviation Tools via Analysis-by-Synthesis

The field of education is rapidly shifting toward digital platforms; however, aviation education continues to rely heavily on traditional paper-based manuals. This persistence is largely due to the inherent complexity, scale, and high costs associated with aviation equipment, making digital transformation particularly challenging. In this paper, we utilizing the analysis-by-synthesis method is presented for multi-view 3D reconstruction of solid objects, specifically focusing on aviation tools. To facilitate this research, a custom dataset was generated using Unity, enabling controlled experimentation and performance evaluation. Comparative analysis with existing benchmarks demonstrates that, despite the intricate nature of aviation tools compared to simpler objects. The proposed architecture effectively reconstructs detailed and accurate digital replicas with 97% accuracy. This advancement has the potential to significantly enhance aviation training by providing immersive, interactive 3D content, bridging the gap between traditional training materials and cutting-edge digital education tools.

ENHANCING TWITTER BOT DETECTION VIA MULTIMODAL INVARIANT REPRESENTATIONS

Detecting Twitter Bots is crucial for maintaining the integrity of online discourse, safeguarding democratic processes, and preventing the spread of malicious propaganda. However, advanced Twitter Bots today often employ sophisticated feature manipulation and account farming techniques to blend seamlessly with genuine user interactions, posing significant challenges to existing detection models. In response to these challenges, this paper proposes a novel Twitter Bot Detection framework called BotSAI. This framework enhances the consistency of multimodal user features, accurately characterizing various modalities to distinguish between real users and bots. Specifically, the architecture integrates information from users, textual content, and heterogeneous network topologies, leveraging customized encoders to obtain comprehensive user feature representations. The heterogeneous network encoder efficiently aggregates information from neighboring nodes through oversampling techniques and local relationship transformers. Subsequently, a multi-channel representation mechanism maps user representations into invariant and specific subspaces, enhancing the feature vectors. Finally, a self-attention mechanism is introduced to integrate and refine the enhanced user representations, enabling efficient information interaction. Extensive experiments demonstrate that BotSAI outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods on two major Twitter Bot Detection benchmarks, exhibiting superior performance. Additionally, systematic experiments reveal the impact of different social relationships on detection accuracy, providing novel insights for the identification of social bots. © 2024, CC BY.

Efficient Modeling Attack on Multiplexer PUFs via Kronecker Matrix Multiplication

The Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) is valued for its lightweight nature and unique functionality, making it a common choice for securing hardware products requiring authentication and key generation mechanisms. In response to the susceptibility of individual PUFs to modeling attacks, advanced PUF variants have been developed to improve security measures. One notable type in this regard is the multiplexer-based composition of arbiter PUFs, known as MPUF, which aims to meet high reliability and security standards simultaneously. Current research on attacking MPUF encounters challenges such as substantial demands for training CRPs and low success rates. In this work, we propose a novel numerical modeling attack strategy for MPUFs. Using Kronecker products from mathematical perspective, this method precisely describe the MPUF model without using complex network architectures, boosting attack accuracy and overall efficiency. Experiment comparison with state-of-the-art works demonstrates that our method achieves better performance in terms of attack accuracy, robustness, and efficiency. Our method is able to successfully attack a (512, 8)-MPUF in 32.71 minutes with 97.14% accuracy, outperforming all existing attack methods on MPUFs. More, we validate our method through experiments with hardware implementations on FPGAs. The advantages of our method also include the adaptability to be employed to attack other MPUF variations like cMPUF and rMPUF, and the capability to be integrated with an existing attack method for launching efficient attack on MPUFs leveraging reliability information. © 2025 IEEE.
