An architecture design of the intelligent agent for speech recognition and translation is presented in this paper. The design involves the agent architecture and the method of the agent is used. The architecture design shows the relationship between the intelligent agent and speech recognition also translation. The intelligent agent for speech recognition is called S-AGENT and T-AGENT for translation. The purpose of the S-AGENT is to facilitate for transmitting the speech data via Internet or network. The S-AGENT is acting as a data transmit control to ensure the transmitted speech data is securely delivered. The task of the T-AGENT is different from the S-AGENT. The T-AGENT is acting as information retrieval. It processes the output from the speech recognition and translates the output based on its information memory database. If the information cannot be found on its memory, it searches the information required from the database dictionary provided. At the same time, it learns the information and saves the information to its memory for the future purpose.

This paper proposes a novel reliable multicast transport protocol for multi-hop, wireless ad hoc networks (or MANETs). To recover from the different types of losses that may occur in MANETs, our Reliable Adaptive Congestion-controlled Transport protocol, or ReACT, combines source-based congestion- and error control with receiver initiated localized recovery. While the latter attempts to recover localized losses (e.g., caused by transmission errors), the former is invoked only for losses and congestion that could not be recovered locally (e.g., caused by global congestion). Loss differentiation is an important component of ReACT and uses medium access control (MAC) layer information to distinguish between different types of losses. Through extensive simulations, we evaluate ReACT's performance under a variety of MANET scenarios, including different offered load and mobility conditions, and compare it against a strictly end-to-end (i.e., no localized recovery) scheme. Our results show that ReACT is the best performer in terms of reliability. Our results also showcase the effect of ReACT's local recovery mechanism which quickly corrects error-and path breakage induced losses and thus manages to prevent the source from reducing its rate unnecessarily, thus achieving significant throughput improvement with lower overhead when compared to the strictly end-to-end protocol. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2004.

This paper analyses the mathematical properties of four famous wavelets and evaluates their coding performance for different kinds of images in EZW image coders. It can be found that although the 9/7 biorthogonal wavelets, which obtain better tradeoff among incompatible mathematical properties, give the best performance. But it still can't code edges and textures efficiently due to existing ringing and smearing artifacts at low bit rates. The harmonic decomposition must follow the uncertainty principle that prevents any atom perfectly, which is well localized in the space domain to retain frequency localization. It gives an opportunity to develop new paradigms to efficiently representing and coding structures very well localized in the space domain, but with large frequency band such as edges and textures.

Adaptive algorithms are increasingly acknowledged in leading parallel and distributed research. In the past, algorithms were manually tuned to be executed efficiently on a particular architecture. However, interest has shifted towards algorithms that can adapt themselves to the computational resources. A cost model representing the behavior of the system (i.e. system parameters) and the algorithm (i.e algorithm parameters) plays an important role in adaptive parallel algorithms. In this paper, we contribute a computational model based on Bulk Synchronous Parallel processing that predicts performance of a parallelized split-step Fourier transform. We extracted the system parameters of a cluster (upon which our algorithm was executed) and showed the use of an algorithmic parameter in the model that exhibits optimal behavior. Our model can thus be used for the purpose of self-adaption.

In this paper, we propose a bandwidth-effective volume rendering scheme which subdivides the volume into the sub-volumes and transmits them to the texture units in visibility order. Each sub-volume is rendered in the same manner as the original volume on the graphics hardware and the corresponding sub-image is blended in the alpha blending unit. The sub-volume oriented processing improves the cache efficiency and allows empty space skipping. Moreover, it is capable of rendering volume datasets that do not fit into the texture memory. Simulations show that the proposed scheme is effective for 3D texture-based volume rendering on commodity graphics hardware by reducing memory bandwidth up to 30 times when compared with the traditional method. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

We present a new framework for streaming video over Internet in this paper. The sending rate is dynamically adjusted to obtain a maximal utilization of the client buffer and minimal bandwidth allocation. To guarantee a more reliable and better quality of delivery of the video frames, retransmission and selective drop of different frame packets are integrated into our framework. Under severe network congestion, an adaptive playback schedule can provide relative high video quality at a low frame rate. Comparisons are made with the most current streaming approaches using the H.26L video coder to evaluate the performance of the framework. Simulations results show that PSNR is increased in our approach, which provides a better quality of the decoded frames, and the quality of the decoded frames also changes more smoothly

In this paper, we explore the domain of American Football TV broadcasting with respect to interesting event detection. Most of the existing methods achieve the goal of event detection in sports video using some type of shot or scene based approaches. Many problems arise when it comes to work in the shot or scene level in the American Football domain. The big amount of camera movement, such as tilting, zooming, panning, and the large number of different angles used by different broadcasting networks make it very difficult to work in the shot/scene level. We show how in any of these two levels, over segmentation is almost inevitable. We also propose a novel concept that answers most of the problems of the domain we work on. This is the concept of "unit". A unit is defined as good workable data, which is not necessary to be very accurate. The main purpose of the unit detection process we present is to locate these potentially interesting segments in the video, and separate them from the rest of the redundant data.

We propose a new multimedia data mining framework for the extraction of soccer goal events in soccer videos by using combined multimodal analysis and decision tree logic. The extracted events can be used to index the soccer videos. We first adopt an advanced video shot detection method to produce shot boundaries and some important visual features. Then, the visual/audio features are extracted for each shot at different granularities. This rich multimodal feature set is filtered by a pre-filtering step to clean the noise as well as to reduce the irrelevant data. A decision tree model is built upon the cleaned data set and is used to classify the goal shots. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework for soccer goal extraction.

The final goal of this research is to develop a mobile system to collect 3D information and panoramic image in rubble to search human bodies and situation in the rubble. This system has abilities to collect and deliver information and cooperate with other robots etc. As a part of this project, multiple CMOS cameras are integrated in a sensor head, and software for generating panorama image and distance information is developed.
