Understanding program behavior is crucial in computer architecture research, but the growing size of benchmarks makes analyzing and simulating entire programs increasingly challenging. In practice, researchers often select representative program intervals for analysis and testing. These intervals are different sections of continuous execution of a program. SimPoint is a well-known method for selecting representative intervals using hardware-independent information. However, when focusing on a specific microarchitecture study, it is desirable to select intervals that are more relevant to that study. For instance, intervals with more branch mispredictions are more appropriate for branch prediction studies. We refer to these intervals as "tailored intervals" for branch prediction *** paper presents a Multi-level Behavior Analysis guided Program Interval Selection (MBAPIS) for selecting tailored intervals. For a given microarchitecture study, the first level of MBAPIS uses hardware performance counters to prioritize selecting the intervals that exhibit clearer microarchitectural characteristics relevant to that study. The second level analyzes the processor performance bottlenecks to further select the intervals where the concerned microarchitecture design more strongly impacts performance. Finally, MBAPIS performs clustering analysis with the basic block information of each interval selected by the first two levels, and selects the representative intervals among them while preserving the diverse software behavior. Additionally, we present a general and extensible interval-replaying design to accurately re-execute selected *** SPEC CPU2006 and CPU2017 benchmarks are used for evaluation. Few-shot semantic segmentation (FSS) endeavors to segment unseen classes with only a few labeled samples. Current FSS methods are commonly built on the assumption that their training and application scenarios share similar domains, and their performances degrade significantly while applied to a distinct domain. To this end, we propose to leverage the cutting-edge foundation model, the segment Anything Model (SAM), for generalization enhancement. The SAM however performs unsatisfactorily on domains that are distinct from its training data, which primarily comprise natural scene images, and it does not support automatic segmentation of specific semantics due to its interactive prompting mechanism. In our work, we introduce APSeg, a novel auto-prompt network for cross-domain few-shot semantic segmentation (CD-FSS), which is designed to be auto-prompted for guiding cross-domain segmentation. Specifically, we propose a Dual Prototype Anchor Transformation (DPAT) module that fuses pseudo query prototypes extracted based on cycle-consistency with support prototypes, allowing features to be transformed into a more stable domain-agnostic space. Additionally, a Meta Prompt (MPG) module is introduced to automatically generate prompt embeddings, eliminating the need for manual visual prompts. We build an efficient model which can be applied directly to target domains without fine-tuning. Extensive experiments on four cross-domain datasets show that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art CD-FSS method by 5.24% and 3.10% in average accuracy on 1-shot and 5-shot settings, respectively.

Multi-Instance Learning (MIL) is a weakly supervised learning paradigm, in which every training example is a labeled bag of unlabeled instances. In typical MIL applications, instances are often used for describing the features of regions/parts in a whole object, e.g., regional patches/lesions in an eye-fundus image. However, for a (semantically) complex part the standard MIL formulation puts a heavy burden on the representation ability of the corresponding instance. To alleviate this pressure, we still adopt a bag-of-instances as an example in this paper, but extract from each instance a set of representations using 1 times1 convolutions. The advantages of this tactic are two-fold: i) This set of representations can be regarded as multi-view representations for an instance;ii) Compared to building multi-view representations directly from scratch, extracting them automatically using 1 times1 convolutions is more economical, and may be more effective since 1 times1 convolutions can be embedded into the whole network. Furthermore, we apply two consecutive multi-instance pooling operations on the reconstituted bag that has actually become a bag of sets of multi-view representations. We have conducted extensive experiments on several canonical MIL data sets from different application domains. The experimental results show that the proposed framework outperforms the standard MIL formulation in terms of classification performance and has good interpretability. © 2022 IEEE.

VCformer: Variable Correlation Transformer with Inherent Lagged Correlation for Multivariate Time Series Forecasting

Multivariate time series (MTS) forecasting has been extensively applied across diverse domains, such as weather prediction and energy consumption. However, current studies still rely on the vanilla point-wise self-attention mechanism to capture cross-variable dependencies, which is inadequate in extracting the intricate cross-correlation implied between variables. To fill this gap, we propose Variable Correlation Transformer (VCformer), which utilizes Variable Correlation Attention (VCA) module to mine the correlations among variables. Specifically, based on the stochastic process theory, VCA calculates and integrates the cross-correlation scores corresponding to different lags between queries and keys, thereby enhancing its ability to uncover multivariate relationships. Additionally, inspired by Koopman dynamics theory, we also develop Koopman Temporal Detector (KTD) to better address the non-stationarity in time series. The two key components enable VCformer to extract both multivariate correlations and temporal dependencies. Our extensive experiments on eight real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of VCformer, achieving top-tier performance compared to other state-of-the-art baseline models. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as pivotal tools for infrastructure inspection, mitigating risks to human life and enhancing operational efficiency. Despite advancements, achieving autonomous surface coverage inspection in GPS-denied environments remains a significant challenge. This paper presents a novel approach to enhance UAV policy learning for surface screening of urban infrastructure in environments lacking GPS. Utilizing Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), the methodology enables UAVs to autonomously conduct surface coverage inspections more robustly and efficiently. A key innovation is the Optimal Speed Decision (OSD) model, which allows UAVs to adjust flight speed dynamically based on scene perception, enhancing efficiency and safety. Additionally, an Off-Policy Critic-Based Reward Shaping (OPCBRS) method is introduced to improve learning efficiency and performance by addressing the issue of sparse rewards using offline data. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of these methods, with the OSD model demonstrating significant improvements in navigating complex scenarios and maintaining a balance between efficiency and robustness over traditional uniform speed policies. This research offers a robust framework for UAV-based infrastructure inspection in GPS-denied environments, advancing autonomous UAV applications.

DEGSTalk: Decomposed Per-Embedding Gaussian Fields for Hair-Preserving Talking Face Synthesis

Accurately synthesizing talking face videos and capturing fine facial features for individuals with long hair presents a significant challenge. To tackle these challenges in existing methods, we propose a decomposed per-embedding Gaussian fields (DEGSTalk), a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)-based talking face synthesis method for generating realistic talking faces with long hairs. Our DEGSTalk employs Deformable Pre-Embedding Gaussian Fields, which dynamically adjust pre-embedding Gaussian primitives using implicit expression coefficients. This enables precise capture of dynamic facial regions and subtle expressions. Additionally, we propose a Dynamic Hair-Preserving Portrait Rendering technique to enhance the realism of long hair motions in the synthesized videos. Results show that DEGSTalk achieves improved realism and synthesis quality compared to existing approaches, particularly in handling complex facial dynamics and hair preservation. Monocular depth estimation is a classic research topic in computer vision. In recent years, development of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) has facilitated significant breakthroughs in this field. However, there still are two challenges: 1) The network struggles to effectively fuse edge features in the feature fusion stage, which ultimately results in the loss of structure or distorted boundaries of objects in the scene. 2) Classification based studies typically depend on Transformers for global modeling, a process that often introduces substantial performance overhead. In this paper, we propose two modules to address the aforementioned issues. The first module is the Boundary Attention Module (BAM), which leverages the attention mechanism to enhance the ability of the network to perceive object boundaries during the feature fusion stage. In addition, to mitigate the performance overhead resulting from predicting adaptive bins, we propose a Shift Window Adaptive Bins (SWAB) module to reduce the amount of calculation in global modeling. The proposed method is evaluated on two public datasets, NYU Depth V2 and KITTI, and achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Mining World Indicators for Analyzing and Modeling the Development of Countries

The world indicators released by the World Bank or other organizations usually give the basic public knowledge about the world. However, separate and static index lacks the complex interplay among different indicators and thus cannot help us have an overall understanding of the world. To this end, we study the world indicators from a different angle. Firstly, we discover that there exist correlations between indicators either from a static view or from a dynamic view. Moreover, taking the trade and diplomatic relationships into consideration, we construct a multi-relational network to depict the interactions between different countries, and propose a Multiple Relations to Vector (MR2vec) model to study world indicators from a network perspective. The experimental results show the changes of world indicators are predictable with the proposed model, and our proposed MR2vec has wide adaptability in predicting multi-relation networks. © 2022 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

In recent years, the global repercussions of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants have posed significant challenges to various areas, including the economic order, transportation, healthcare, and education, and the mitigation and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 and other infectious diseases have received much attention. This paper tries to develop a rational and effective intervention strategy in response to the dynamic evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. To address this issue, we first use the SEIR model to analyze the population distribution under the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, and then integrate a deep Q-neural network (DQN) to reflect an economic quantification model contextualized within the SARS-CoV-2 scenario. Next, we propose an evolutionary deep reinforcement learning to generate an optimal and adaptive intervention strategy, by optimizing the weight sequence of the DQN. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in maximizing economic benefits, while ensuring the uninterrupted functionality of medical institutions. Importantly, the learned intervention strategy exhibits the applicability to other infectious diseases.

Vision Transformers constantly absorb the characteristics of convolutional neural networks to solve its shortcomings in translational invariance and scale invariance. However, dividing the image by a simple grid often destroys the position and scale features in the image at the beginning of the network. In this paper, we propose a vision transformer based on region proposal, which obtains the inductive bias in a simple way. Specifically, RPViT achieves locality and scale-invariance by extracting regions with locality using a traditional region proposal algorithm and deflating objects of different scales to the same scale by a bilinear interpolation algorithm. In addition, to enable the network to fully utilize and encode diverse candidate objects, a multi-class token approach based on orthogonalization is proposed and applied. Experiments on ImageNet demonstrate that RPViT outperforms baseline converters and related work. © 2022 ACM.
