Recently, deep multi-instance neural networks have been successfully applied for medical image classification, where only image-level labels rather than fine-grained patch-level labels are available for use. One key issue for these multi-instance neural networks is how to aggregate all patch (instance) features into an entire image (bag) representation, referred to as multi-instance pooling, e.g., max, mean, and attention based pooling. Nevertheless, these multi-instance pooling operations do not take the structural information within an image into account. This is obviously inappropriate for medical image classification since there often exist certain dependencies among regional patches/lesions. We propose an adaptive recurrent pooling based deep multi-instance neural network in this paper. In this network, we first extract multi-view global structural features from every bag using the self-attention mechanism, and then aggregate these multi-view features into a whole bag representation based on the adaptive recurrent pooling operation in order to further capture the contextual information within the bag. Moreover, we introduce the cross-normalization operation used in the Unit Force Operated Vision Transformer into the self-attention module to reduce its computational complexity. We have experimentally evaluated the performance of the proposed network on three medical image datasets, namely UCSB breast, Messidor, and Colon cancer. The results demonstrate the advantage of our network over current state-of-the-art deep multi-instance networks in terms of classification accuracy and interpretability. © 2022 IEEE.

This work aims to present the methodological framework within which the T4Y project is developing as a contribution to the spatial analysis of complex systems related to tourism. The mapping of tourist ecosystems from a territorial perspective is a complex phenomenon due to the difficulty in understanding the interactions between tourists and the territory. Through the integration of AI-based techniques, the study aims to propose an approach based on graph-structured data to manage the complexity of geospatial information and improve planners' ability to abstract the possible relationships between elements of the territory. The approach utilizes graph-based data modeling while preserving spatial connections. It has been demonstrated how, through a bipartite graph approach, it is possible to decode the territorial components while taking into account the spatial connections between different pieces of information. Furthermore, the implementation of Graph Neural Networks (GNN) has been discussed as a way to facilitate a more integrated and context-aware analysis. This work aims to contribute to the ongoing debate on complex systems in spatial planning and provide valuable tools for policymakers and planners to experiment with scenarios for spatial development.

Personalized Federated Learning with Multiple Classifier Aggregation

Personalized federated learning (PFL) has garnered attention due to its capability to address statistical heterogeneity among clients. Typically, prevailing PFL methods aggregate a single global model for personalization, which may be inadequate for clients with diverse data distributions. Furthermore, in the local update, each private dataset is used to optimize the model independently, which increases the risk of overfitting the current data distribution and losing previously acquired knowledge, resulting in knowledge forgetting. In this study, personalized federated learning with multiple classifier aggregation is proposed. The method involves splitting the client model into its head and base, then optimizing them respectively using an alternating optimization strategy that first optimizes the head and then the base. Initially, to address the suboptimal model problem, the proposed approach aggregates multiple classifiers using data distribution and employs knowledge distillation to impart positive and negative classifier knowledge for learning the most suitable personalized model head. Additionally, to mitigate knowledge forgetting, a learnable personalization layer is introduced, and hidden loss is utilized to learn the knowledge of the global base and prevent overfitting of the model base. Empirical results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves competitive performance across various benchmarks, outperforming the majority of state-of-the-art PFL algorithms. Aptamers are single-stranded DNA or RNA oligonucleotides that selectively bind to specific targets, making them valuable for drug design and diagnostic applications. Identifying the interactions between aptamers and target proteins is crucial for these applications. The systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment process, traditionally used for this purpose, is challenging and time-consuming. The resulting aptamers often suffer from limitations in stability and diversity. Computational approaches have shown promise in aiding the discovery of high-performance aptamers, but existing methods are usually constrained by insufficient training data and limited generalizability. Recently, advancements in pre-training large language models have offered a new avenue to mitigate the dependency on large datasets. In this study, we propose a novel method to predict aptamer-protein interactions using large language models within a contrastive learning framework. Experimental results demonstrate that our method exhibits superior generalization and outperforms existing approaches. This method holds promise as a powerful tool for predicting aptamer-protein interactions.

The existing text-to-image generation methods based on stable diffusion yield better results in low-semantic prompt but often neglect the generation quality of high-semantic prompt such as emotional vocabulary, resulting in poor emotional image generation. In order to address this issue, we propose a novel approach called Sal-Guide Diffusion, which leverages saliency maps to guide emotional image generation with the goal of producing superior emotionally expressive images. In order to let the saliency maps guide the diffusion process, we introduce a lightweight adapter to extract emotional information from saliency maps and incorporate it into the diffusion process. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method generates higher-quality images across eight emotional dimensions, excelling in both generalization, emotional congruence, and subjective preference compared to stable diffusion or similar methods.

Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) enables users to delegate the keyword search over dynamically updated encrypted databases to an honest-but-curious server without losing keyword privacy. This paper studies a new and practical security risk to DSSE, namely, secret key compromise (e.g., a user’s secret key is leaked or stolen), which threatens all the security guarantees offered by existing DSSE schemes. To address this open problem, we introduce the notion of searchable encryption with key-update (SEKU) that provides users with the option of non-interactive key updates. We further define the notion of post-compromise secure with respect to leakage functions to study whether DSSE schemes can still provide data security after the client’s secret key is compromised. We demonstrate that post-compromise security is achievable with a proposed protocol called "Bamboo". Interestingly, the leakage functions of Bamboo satisfy the requirements for both forward and backward security. We conduct a performance evaluation of Bamboo using a real-world dataset and compare its runtime efficiency with the existing forward-and-backward secure DSSE schemes. A Novel High-Efficiency Password Authentication and Key Agreement Protocol for Mobile Client-Server

With the development of wireless technology, people increasingly rely on mobile devices. Since most mobile devices transmit sensitive information via insecure public channels, it is important to design multiauthentication key agreement protocols for security protection. Traditional scholars tend to use traditional public-key cryptosystems (PKCs) in their protocols to improve security. High-cost operations (e.g., elliptic curve point multiplication and bilinear pairing) were widely used in their scheme but were not suitable for mobile devices because of limited computing resources. In this study, we designed a novel high-efficiency multiauthentication and key agreement protocol and demonstrate its security in the random oracle model. Compared with other protocols, our proposed scheme only uses string concatenation operations, one-way hash functions, and XOR operations. In addition, our protocol requires much fewer computing resources to achieve the same level of security. © 2023 Xiang Xu et al.
