Video stream analytics (VSA) systems fuel many exciting applications that facilitate people’s lives, but also raise critical concerns about exposing too much individuals’ privacy. To alleviate these concerns, various frameworks have been presented to enhance the privacy of VSA systems. Yet, existing solutions suffer two limitations: (1) being scenario-customized, thus limiting the generality of adapting to multifarious scenarios, (2) requiring complex, imperative programming, and tedious process, thus largely reducing the usability of such systems. In this paper, we present X-Stream, a privacy-preserving video transformer that achieves flexibility and efficiency for a large variety of VSA tasks. X-Stream features three major novel designs: (1) a declarative query interface that provides a simple yet expressive interface for users to describe both their privacy protection and content exposure requirements, (2) an adaptation mechanism that dynamically selects the most suitable privacy-preserving techniques and their parameters based on the current video context, and (3) an efficient execution engine that incorporates optimizations for multi-task deduplication and inter-frame inference. We implement X-Stream and evaluate it with representative VSA tasks and public video datasets. The results show that X-Stream achieves significantly improved privacy protection quality and performance over the state-of-the-art, while being simple to use.

DPP-HSS: Towards Fast and Scalable Hypervolume Subset Selection for Many-objective Optimization

Hypervolume subset selection (HSS) has received significant attention since it has a strong connection with evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO), such as environment selection and post-processing to identify representative solutions for decision-makers. The goal of HSS is to find the optimal subset that maximizes the hypervolume indicator subject to a given cardinality constraint. However, existing HSS algorithms or related methods are not efficient in achieving good performance in high-dimensional objective spaces. This is primarily because HSS problems become NP-hard when the number of objectives exceeds two, and the calculation of hypervolume contribution is very time-consuming. To efficiently solve HSS problems while maintaining a good solution quality, we propose a fast and scalable hypervolume subset selection method for many-objective optimization based on the determinantal point process (DPP), named DPP-HSS, which is fully free of hypervolume contribution calculation. Specifically, DPP-HSS constructs a hypervolume kernel matrix by extracting the convergence and diversity representations of each solution for a given HSS problem. This matrix is then used to build a DPP model. Subsequently, the original HSS problem is reformulated as a new maximization optimization problem based on the constructed model. A greedy DPP-based hypervolume subset selection algorithm is implemented to solve this transformed problem. Extensive experiments show that the proposed DPP-HSS achieves significant speedup and good hypervolume performance in comparison with state-of-the-art HSS algorithms on benchmark problems. Furthermore, DPP-HSS demonstrates very good scalability with respect to the number of objectives. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Emerging cross-point memory can in-situ perform vector-matrix multiplication (VMM) for energy-efficient scientific computation. However, parasitic-capacitance-induced row charging and discharging latency is a major performance bottleneck of subarray VMM. We propose a memory-timing-compliant bulk VMM processing-using-memory design with row access and column access co-optimization from rethinking of read access commands and μ-op timing. We propose row-level-parallelism-adaptive timing termination mechanism to reduce tail latency of tRCD and tRP by exploiting row nonlinear charging and bulk-interleaved row-column-cooperative VMM access mechanism to reduce tRAS and overlap CL without increasing column ADC precision. Evaluations show that our design can achieve 5.03× performance speedup compared with an aggressive baseline.

The memristive Computing-in-Memory (CIM) sys-tem can efficiently accelerate matrix-vector multiplication (MVM) operations through in-situ computing. The data layout has a significant impact on the communication performance of CIM systems. Existing software-level communication opti-mizations aim to reduce communication distance by carefully designing static data layouts, while wear-leveling (WL) and error mitigation methods use dynamic scheduling to enhance system reliability, resulting in randomized data layouts and increased communication overhead. Besides, existing CIM compilers di-rectly map data to physical crossbars and generate instructions, which causes inconvenience for dynamic scheduling. To address these challenges of balancing communication performance and reliability while coordinating existing CIM compilers and dy-namic scheduling, we propose a disorder-resistant computation translation layer (DRCTL), which improves system lifetime and communication performance through co-optimization of data layout and dynamic scheduling. It consists of three parts: (1) We propose an address conversion method for dynamic scheduling, which updates the addresses in the instruction stream after dynamic scheduling, thereby avoiding recompilation. (2) Dynamic scheduling strategy for reliability improvement. We propose a hierarchical wear-leveling (HWL) strategy, which reduces communication by increasing scheduling granularity. (3) Communication optimization for dynamic scheduling. We propose data layout-aware selective remapping (LASR), which helps dynamic scheduling methods improve communication lo-cality and reduce latency by exploiting data dependencies. The experiments demonstrate that HWL extends lifetime by 100.3-205.9 x compared to not using WL. Even with a slight lifetime decrease compared to the state-of-the-art WL (TIWL), it still supports continuous neural network training for 7 years. Optical skyrmions are quasi-particles with nontrivial topological textures, which hold potential applications in optical information processing, transmission, and storage. There are various three-dimensional physical vectors to construct the optical skyrmions, such as spin skyrmions, Stokes skyrmions, Poynting vector skyrmions, and so on. Here, we present a method to construct tightly focused electric-field skyrmions based on the array antenna radiation theory. A multiple concentric-ring array of dipoles (MCAD) is placed at the focal region of the high numerical aperture (NA) lens to mimic the topological structure of the desired electric field skyrmion, and the radiation pattern of the MCAD is derived to form the incident fields at the pupil planes of the high NA lenses in a 4π focusing setup. The characteristics of the generated focal field are quantitatively evaluated by using the Debye diffraction integral theory. The results demonstrate that two types of electric field vector topologies, i.e., skyrmion and meron, can be created with adjustable polarity, vorticity, and helicity. Additionally, the normal direction of the plane containing the skyrmion or meron can also be customized, increasing the degrees of freedom in tailoring optical skyrmions.

Cloud-based AI services offer numerous benefits but also introduce vulnerabilities, allowing for tampering with deployed DNN models, ranging from injecting malicious behaviors to reducing computing resources. Fingerprint samples are generated to query models to detect such tampering. In this paper, we present Intersecting-Boundary-Sensitive Fingerprinting (IBSF), a novel method for black-box integrity verification of DNN models using only top-1 labels. Recognizing that tampering with a model alters its decision boundary, IBSF crafts fingerprint samples from normal samples by maximizing the partial Shannon entropy of a selected subset of categories to position the fingerprint samples near decision boundaries where the categories in the subset intersect. These fingerprint samples are almost indistinguishable from their source samples. We theoretically establish and confirm experimentally that these fingerprint samples' expected sensitivity to tampering increases with the cardinality of the subset. Extensive evaluation demonstrates that IBSF surpasses existing state-of-the-art fingerprinting methods, particularly with larger subset cardinality, establishing its state-of-the-art performance in black-box tampering detection using only top-1 labels. APSeg: Auto-Prompt Network for Cross-Domain Few-Shot Semantic Segmentation

Few-shot semantic segmentation (FSS) endeavors to segment unseen classes with only a few labeled samples. Current FSS methods are commonly built on the assumption that their training and application scenarios share similar domains, and their performances degrade significantly while applied to a distinct domain. To this end, we propose to leverage the cutting-edge foundation model, the Segment Anything Model (SAM), for generalization enhancement. The SAM however performs unsatisfactorily on domains that are distinct from its training data, which primarily comprise natural scene images, and it does not support automatic segmentation of specific semantics due to its interactive prompting mechanism. In our work, we introduce APSeg, a novel auto-prompt network for cross-domain few-shot semantic segmentation (CD-FSS), which is designed to be auto-prompted for guiding cross-domain segmentation. Specifically, we propose a Dual Prototype Anchor Transformation (DPAT) module that fuses pseudo query prototypes extracted based on cycle-consistency with support prototypes, allowing features to be transformed into a more stable domain-agnostic space. Additionally, a Meta Prompt Generator (MPG) module is introduced to automatically generate prompt embeddings, eliminating the need for manual visual prompts. We build an efficient model which can be applied directly to target domains without fine-tuning. Extensive experiments on four cross-domain datasets show that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art CD-FSS method by 5.24% and 3.10% in average accuracy on 1-shot and 5-shot settings, respectively. Existing 3D point cloud-based facial recognition struggles to fully leverage both global and local information inherent in the 3D point cloud data. In this paper, we introduce the PointFaceFormer, the first Transformer model designed for 3D point cloud face recognition. It incorporates an attention mechanism based on dot product and cosine functions to construct a similarity Transformer architecture, which effectively extracts both local and global features from the point cloud data. Experimental results demonstrate that PointFaceFormer achieves a recognition accuracy of 89.08% and a verification accuracy of 76.93% on the large-scale facial point cloud dataset Lock3DFace, which is a new state-of-the-art in 3D face recognition. Furthermore, PointFaceFormer exhibits excellent generalization performance on cross-quality datasets. Additionally, we validate the effectiveness of the attention mechanism through ablation experiments, which justify the effectiveness of the proposed modules.
