Brain haemorrhage classification from CT scan images using fine-Tuned transfer learning deep features

Classification of brain haemorrhage is a challenging task that needs to be solved to help advance medical treatment. Recently, it has been observed that efficient deep learning architectures have been developed to detect such bleeding accurately. The proposed system includes two different transfer learning strategies to train and fine-Tune ImageNet pre-Trained state-of-The-Art architecture such as that VGG 16, Inception V3 and DenseNet121. The evaluation metrics have been calculated based on the performance analysis of the employed networks. Experimental results show that the modified fine-Tuned Inception V3 performed well and achieved the highest test accuracy. © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.. All rights reserved.

Hierarchical Patch Selection: An Improved Patch Sampling for No Reference Image Quality Assessment

Quality degradation due to the compression and the transmission of images is a significant threat to multimedia applications. Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) is a principal technique to measure the distortion and dynamically set the optimal parameters for developing image compression standards, image restoration algorithms, etc. Insufficient training data with quality scores are a challenge for image quality assessment (IQA) tasks. The existing solutions to deep-convolution-neural-network-based BIQA, which rely on patchwise training, struggle to find an ideal set of patches consistent with the human visual system. To address these issues, HIerarchical paTch Selection (HITS) is proposed. HITS keeps the patches with considerable details in each quadrant according to their intensity variance scatter ratio (IVSR). IVSR identifies the best nonhomogeneous patches by computing patch intensity variance. Extensive trials are conducted, and the performance reveals that the proposed approach achieves excellent performance on synthetic and authentic distortion datasets with less memory and processing power. Moreover, the proposed approach outperforms other BIQA methods that adapt patchwise training strategies. © 2023 IEEE.

Multi-scale Vision Transformer toward improved non-invasive anaemia detection using palm video

Anaemia, a condition characterised by reduced haemoglobin levels, exerts a significant global impact, affecting billions of individuals worldwide. According to data from the World Health Organisation (WHO), India exhibits notably high anaemia prevalence in comparison to other developing nations. The urgency arises for the development of non-invasive, cost-effective, and accurate anaemia screening technologies, primarily due to the substantial costs and logistical complexities associated with invasive screening methods, which impede their broad adoption on a global scale. The current endeavor aims to establish a robust anaemia detection system through the integration of cutting-edge computational methodologies with the traditional yet less precise approach of assessing haemoglobin levels based on observation of palm pallor. The proposed method employs time-domain analysis to establish a correlation between blood haemoglobin concentration and the observed changes in palm colour resulting from the application and release of pressure. This involves employing a custom device to capture and record the complete sequence of palm colour changes using a smartphone camera sensor, followed by data processing and analysis. The Multi-scale Vision Transformer is then employed to extract features from dominant frames. The approach further incorporates the application of a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) network as a regression model based on the reduced feature outcomes. The proposed system accurately estimates blood haemoglobin levels with RMSE, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 0.509, 96.88%, 86.39%, and 92.59%, respectively based on 531 video samples of palm evidence. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

He is currently working on building efficient data center networks at Google. His research interests primarily lie in the optimization of resources in resource constrained networked systems. The main applications of his work are in multi-agent robotics, federated learning, edge computing, cloud infrastructure, and monitoring for IoT. More recently, he has also been working on software defined networking and next-generation wireless networks. In 2022, he won the Best Paper Runner Up Award at ACM MobiHoc. Enhancing facial expression recognition in uncontrolled environment: a lightweight CNN approach with pre-processing

Facial expressions play a key role in human non-verbal type of communication, providing key insights into emotions and intentions. These expressions serve as universal signals, helping individuals convey their internal states across various personal and social contexts. With the growing interest in automatic facial emotion recognition, deep neural networks have emerged as a popular approach for detecting human emotions, even under challenging, real-world conditions. However, external factors can affect the system's performance, degrading the quality of facial features and making emotion detection more difficult. In the presented paper, we propose a highly optimized lightweight convolutional neural network (LCNN) for emotion recognition in controlled and uncontrolled environments. The proposed model is designed to learn hidden nonlinear patterns from facial images. The proposed convolutional neural network consisting a series of convolutional layers followed by max-pooling layers. The model's performance is evaluated with and without pre-processing steps to highlight the importance of pre-processing in improving detection accuracy. The LCNN achieves 65% accuracy on the FER-2013 dataset and 98% on the CK + dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

TREAT: Temporal and Relational Attention-Based Tensor Representation Learning for Ethereum Phishing Users

The Ethereum blockchain platform has witnessed a surge in crypto-cybercrimes, particularly phishing attacks, resulting in significant financial losses. Analyzing the Ethereum transaction network to detect phishing users poses a set of critical challenges, including network sparsity, dynamic network fluctuations, large-scale data and significant class imbalance. Existing literature in this area primarily leverages traditional feature engineering or network representation learning to retrieve crucial information from transaction records to identify suspected users. However, these methods mainly rely on manually handcrafted features or conventional node representation learning while ignoring the inherent network sparsity and dynamic fluctuations. Hence, to alleviate these challenges, this paper introduces a novel tensor-based representation learning framework, TREAT (Temporal and Relational Attention-based Tensor Representation Learning). TREAT models the Ethereum transaction network as a 3-dimensional tensor to preserve structural, transactional, and temporal aspects in a standalone architecture, thereby observing the rich correlation among these. The framework is coupled with a two-way self-attention mechanism alongside a rank-based tensor decomposition to comprehend the underlying evolving transaction interaction patterns while addressing the network sparsity. A Graph Neural Network layer with edge attention elevates the final representation quality, thereby yielding a 3%~4% improvement in F1-Score with respect to the existing baselines. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Automated reading of license plate and its detection is a crucial component of the competent transportation system. Toll payment and parking management e-payment systems may benefit from this software’s features. License plate detection and identification algorithms abound, and each has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. computer vision has advanced rapidly in terms of new breakthroughs and techniques thanks to the emergence and proliferation of deep learning principles across several branches of AI. The practice of automating the monitoring process in traffic management, parking management, and police surveillance has become much more effective thanks to the development of Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR). Even though license plate recognition (LPR) is a technology that is extensively utilized and has been developed, there is still a significant amount of work to be done before it can achieve its full potential. In the last several years, there have been substantial advancements in both the scientific community’s methodology and its level of efficiency. In this era of deep learning, there have been numerous developments and techniques established for LPR, and the purpose of this research is to review and examine those developments and approaches. In light of this, the authors of this study suggest a four-stage technique to automated license plate detection and identification (ALPDR), which includes, image pre-processing, license plate extraction, character segmentation, and character recognition. And the first three phases are known as "extraction," "preprocessing," and "segmentation," and each of these processes has been shown to benefit from its own unique technique. The patient health prediction system is the most critical study in medical research. Several prediction models exist to predict the patient's health condition. However, a relevant result was not attained because of poor quality. The IoT-sensed data contains more noise content, which maximizes the complexity of the health prediction. These demerits resulted in low prediction and performance scores. So the proposed work aims to develop a novel Coati-based Recurrent Digital Twin Framework (CbRDTF) to predict the patients' health conditions. The novelty of this research lies in the combined function of the coati optimization and recurrent network with the digital twin for health prediction. Initially, the IoT-sensed data was imported, the data were preprocessed, and meaningful features were selected. Then predict the health condition of the patients and classify the conditions. Here the incorporated coati function at the classification layer extracted the relevant features from the sensed medical data for the robust prediction and also modified the parameters of the recurrent digital twin to improve the prediction and classification accuracy. Finally, the performance was measured;the presented model attained a high exactness score of 99.81% in the prediction accuracy, recall, f-value, and precision;it also, validated the computation time of 611.81 s. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the education system in India has changed to remote that is, online study mode. Though there are works on the effect of teaching learning on Indian students, the effect of online mode and associated mental state, particularly when the entire country is going through a crisis could not be found in the literature. Our goal is to analyze data and find some pattern through which we can understand the effectiveness of the online study and also try to figure out the stress level. The dataset we collected from 500 undergraduate college students during April-May, 2021 is in questionnaire format. Our contribution in this paper are - (i) publishing a dataset of student feedbacks, and (ii) designing a data processing pipeline involving autoencoders followed by clustering approach. The dataset is in text format so for our analysis we have converted the dataset into a numerical format using the concept of a binary bag of words. Dimensionality reduction is applied through autoencoder for an effective latent space representation. Finally, for finding patterns out of this dimensionally reduced feature space, we have applied unsupervised learning algorithms - kMeans and DBSCAN. A thorough analysis of the clustering process reveals that the absence of social communication in purely online education provokes isolation irrespective of the urban or rural background of the students. However, it could supplement offline classes as a substantial number of students welcomed the concept of online learning as reported in the data. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
