Network virtualization (NV) plays a crucial role in modern network management. One of the fundamental challenges in NV is allocating physical network (PN) resources to the demands of the virtual network requests (VNRs). This process is known as a virtual network embedding (VNE) and is NP-hard. Most of the existing approaches for VNE are based on heuristic, meta-heuristic, and exact strategies with limited flexibility and the risk of being stuck in local optimal solutions. In this concern, we provide a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and graph convolution network (GCN) fusion for VNE (DeepVNE) for maximizing the revenue-to-cost ratio. The DeepVNE takes advantage of the power of actor-critic models within the DRL framework to detect network states and provide optimal solutions matched to current conditions. DeepVNE effectively captures the structural dependencies of both VNRs and PN resources by GCNs, allowing better decision-making during the embedding. Considering several features in the agents throughout the training phase improves resource utilization. The experiments show that DeepVNE outperforms the baselines by gaining a 51% acceptance ratio and 28% revenue-to-cost ratio. © 2024 IEEE.

Crime prediction has become essential in modern law enforcement for enabling proactive strategies to enhance public safety. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, particularly Random Forest, offer a powerful tool for analyzing extensive datasets and uncovering complex patterns. Random Forest's ensemble learning approach is well-suited for managing high-dimensional data and capturing nonlinear relationships. This study provides an in-depth examination of crime prediction with Random Forest, emphasizing its advantages such as feature selection, robustness to noise, and scalability. Theoretical foundations, including bagging learning and decision tree aggregation, are explored, showcasing Random Forest's predictive capabilities. Empirical studies and real-world applications demonstrate its effectiveness across various spatial and temporal scales. Integrating Random Forest-based crime prediction systems into law enforcement practices enables agencies to anticipate trends, allocate resources strategically, and implement targeted interventions for community safety. By leveraging data-driven approaches, law enforcement can effectively address and mitigate criminal activities, contributing to safer communities. © 2024 IEEE.

The requirement to protect the authenticity and accuracy of images motivates the implementation of water-marking on these images. Any alteration or interference with medical images might lead to erroneous diagnosis or treatment, as these images are vital for diagnosing and tracking diseases. Moreover, these photographs are regularly transmitted across the internet, increasing the potential for unauthorized access and alteration. Therefore, medical image watermarking is essential to safeguard the reliability and accuracy of these medical images in research and clinical environments. This paper presents a framework of a highly safe and reliable dual watermarking technique that utilizes the NSST-Radon transform to improve medical data security. The ultimate watermarked image is created by incorporating fingerprint and patient information into a medical image, resulting in dual watermarking. After embedding, the final watermarked image is compressed and encrypted to add a security layer. Moreover, our approach uses the best scaling factor to manage the robustness and imperceptibility tradeoffs. The experimental results indicate that the suggested approach demonstrates exceptional overall performance, a high level of imperceptibility, and resilience. The proposed scheme uses dual watermarking to safeguard original medical and non-medical images. The experimental and comparison results show that this strategy produces superior results with remarkable resilience, invisibility, and capacity. © 2024 IEEE.

A complex neurological disorder affecting behavior, communication, and social interactions is known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). For people with ASD, improving outcomes requires primordial detection and intervention. The diagnosis of ASD has been transformed by the combination of AI and ML, particularly in young children. In order to create reliable autism screening tools, researchers have explored a variety of machine learning algorithms, including Decision Trees, XGBClassifier, Random Forest, AdaBoost Classifier, CatBoost Classifier, KMeans to Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Artificial Neural Networks, energised by the intricacies of the human brain, stand out for their remarkable ability to decipher complex patterns within data, thus proving effective in ASD prediction tasks. Nonetheless, ANN models often necessitate substantial data and computational resources for training. It is imperative to undertake rigorous comparative analyses based on accurate and efficient results to determine the most suitable algorithm for ASD prediction. Furthermore, continuous refinement and validation of these varied algorithms along with the representative and comprehensive datasets are vital to ensure their factuality and applicability in real world problems. © 2024 IEEE.

Air pollution is a significant threat to human health and the environment. Accurate air quality forecasting is essential for effective mitigation strategies, including public health advisories, emission control measures, and policy interventions. This research focuses on the development of an advanced air quality forecasting system using machine learning techniques. The system uses historical data on pollutants such as PM2.5, NO2, and O3, along with meteorological parameters, to predict future air quality levels. The model is enhanced with the inclusion of sophisticated machine learning algorithms to better capture the intricate spatiotemporal patterns and enhance the accuracy of forecasting. The system may potentially provide real-time air quality forecasts that enable proactive measures for protecting public health and inform decisions for environmental policy. This research contributes to sustainable and resilient urban environments by providing valuable insights into air quality dynamics and supporting effective air pollution mitigation strategies. © 2025 IEEE.

Signature verification plays a critical role in various industries, including finance and document authentication. However, traditional verification techniques have limitations, such as a lack of robustness and an inability to effectively capture intricate patterns and relationships within the signature images. This paper introduces an innovative approach that addresses the drawbacks by integrating conventional machine learning methods with deep learning techniques. For this purpose, we design a new hybrid MobileNet model using deep learning to extract features from the signature images. Here, the Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) classifier is also used to carry out the binary classification over the extracted features. The experimental results of the proposed model demonstrate that the amalgamated technique surpasses the conventional methods and underscores the possibilities of merging traditional machine learning and deep learning in signature verification. Moreover, the proposed model overcomes the limitations of the traditional signature verification techniques by leveraging the strengths of both deep learning and traditional machine learning. Finally, it obtains a more robust and efficient solution and proves it by providing high security to the data in terms of accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This study presents an overview on intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)-enabled sensing and communication for the forthcoming sixth-generation(6G) wireless networks, in which IRSs are strategically deployed to proactively reconfigure wireless environments to improve both sensing and communication(S&C) performance. First, we exploit a single IRS to enable wireless sensing in the base station's(BS's) non-line-of-sight(NLoS) area. In particular, we present three IRS-enabled NLoS target sensing architectures with fully-passive, semi-passive, and active IRSs, respectively. We compare their pros and cons by analyzing the fundamental sensing performance limits for target detection and parameter estimation. Next, we consider a single IRS to facilitate integrated sensing and communication(ISAC), in which the transmit signals at the BS are used for achieving both S&C functionalities, aided by the IRS through reflective beamforming. We present joint transmit signal and receiver processing designs for realizing efficient ISAC, and jointly optimize the transmit beamforming at the BS and reflective beamforming at the IRS to balance the fundamental performance tradeoff between S&C. Furthermore, we discuss multi-IRS networked ISAC, by particularly focusing on multi-IRS-enabled multi-link ISAC, multi-region ISAC, and ISAC signal routing, respectively. Finally, we highlight various promising research topics in this area to motivate future work.

Adaptive Attention Mechanisms Based Multicriteria Recommender Systems for Improved User Preference Discovery

Personalized recommender systems are becoming more popular to reduce the issue of information overload. It is also observed that the recommendations provided by multi-criteria recommender system (MCRS) are more accurate and precise in comparison to conventional single-criteria recommender systems. MCRS incorporates customers’ preferences based on multiple criteria while recommending any item. Recent research has shown that MCRS can efficiently use implicit and explicit input across various dimensions to make exact recommendations across multiple domains. Due to use of multiple criteria, existing MCRS methods often struggle with effectively aggregating and interpreting these criteria, making it hard to accurately determine user preferences. In this article, we introduce a novel adaptive attention mechanism that dynamically assigns weights to each criterion based on user preferences. Each criterion is initially weighted based on its importance to a user. An attention mechanism is used to understand the exact user’s preference for each criterion. Later, the nearest-neighbor method finds users with similar interest to predict unknown ratings which is further used for Top-N recommendations. The performance of the proposed approach (AM-MCRS) is validated on Yahoo! movies multi-criteria dataset having 1716 unique users and 965 different movies and a comparative analysis is performed with existing single and multi-criteria recommender systems. The results clearly show that the AM-MCRS methodology outperform baseline methods, achieving the highest precision (0.9412), F-score (0.9343), accuracy (0.929), and coverage (0.9407), while also observing a significant reduction in MAE (0.7623) and RMSE (0.9145). These findings highlight the capability of AM-MCRS to improve recommendation accuracy and dependability across various domains. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
