Secure container Orchestration: A framework for detecting and mitigating Orchestrator - level vulnerabilities

This paper presents Secure Orchestration, a novel framework meticulously planned to uphold rigorous security measures over the profound security concerns that lie within the container orchestration platforms, especially in Kubernetes. The widespread adoption of containerized environments has raised concerns about the vulnerabilities at the level of the orchestrator. Secure Orchestration delivers a comprehensive approach by leveraging cutting-edge methods to detect and prevent the exposure of vulnerabilities from orchestrator misconfigurations, privilege escalation exploits that can thwart the orchestration security layer, and unauthorized access attempts targeting the orchestration system itself. In addition, it is further strengthened by deploying an Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS), which is responsible for actively monitoring the orchestration infrastructure. The IDPS utilizes sophisticated algorithms and mechanisms for detecting anomalies to continuously assess the orchestration environment for indications of intrusion, vulnerabilities, and anomalous activities. By using this proactive approach, the framework is able to rapidly identify potential threats and respond through countermeasures in a timely manner, thus greatly reducing the risks associated with orchestrator level vulnerabilities. Conducting a set of real-world experiments that closely simulate a variety of threat scenarios is imperative for empirically validating the efficiency of this framework. The obtained empirical results yield insightful revelations on the efficacy of the framework in accurately identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities, thereby ensuring the privacy and integrity of container orchestration systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Deep learning framework for automatic detection and classification of sleep apnea severity from polysomnography signals

Sleep apnea (SA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder characterized by breathing pauses during sleep. A person’s sleep schedule is significantly influenced by that person’s hectic lifestyle, which may include unhealthy eating habits and their line of work. Polysomnographic (PSG) sleep studies examine sleep-related disorders by recording various biosignals from the human body. However, SA classification methods could be more robust in terms of performance because they rely on feature-engineering strategies or employ a particular signal from PSG recording for diagnosis. This study aims to classify the severity of SA according to the apnea–hypopnea index (AHI) into normal, mild, and moderate-to-severe groups using oxygen saturation (SpO2), electroencephalogram (EEG), and electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. The proposed deep neural network (DNN)-bidirectional long short-term memory (DNN-BiLSTM) framework addresses the issue of low detection accuracy in analysis. The DNN-BiLSTM approach employs features extracted from a multiscale dilation attention 1D convolutional neural network (MSDA-1DCNN) as input for detection and classification purposes. The MSDA-1DCNN network extracts deep features from processed SpO2, EEG, and ECG signals. The developed firefly combined electric fish optimization (FCEFO) algorithm improves performance by optimizing the hidden neuron count of the DNN and the learning rate of the BiLSTM framework. The performance measures proved the effectiveness of the model over conventional machine and deep learning approaches. With the integration of deep features, the proposed DNN-BiLSTM model provides enhanced performance in terms of accuracy and precision. RE-SEGNN:recurrent semantic evidence-aware graph neural network for temporal knowledge graph forecasting

Temporal knowledge graph(TKG) reasoning, has seen widespread use for modeling real-world events, particularly in extrapolation settings. Nevertheless, most previous studies are embedded models, which require both entity and relation embedding to make predictions, ignoring the semantic correlations among different entities and relations within the same timestamp. This can lead to random and nonsensical predictions when unseen entities or relations occur. Furthermore, many existing models exhibit limitations in handling highly correlated historical facts with extensive temporal depth. They often either overlook such facts or overly accentuate the relationships between recurring past occurrences and their current counterparts. Due to the dynamic nature of TKG, effectively capturing the evolving semantics between different timestamps can be *** address these shortcomings, we propose the recurrent semantic evidenceaware graph neural network(RE-SEGNN), a novel graph neural network that can learn the semantics of entities and relations simultaneously. For the former challenge, our model can predict a possible answer to missing quadruples based on semantics when facing unseen entities or relations. For the latter problem, based on an obvious established force, both the recency and frequency of semantic history tend to confer a higher reference value for the current. We use the Hawkes process to compute the semantic trend, which allows the semantics of recent facts to gain more attention than those of distant facts. Experimental results show that RE-SEGNN outperforms all SOTA models in entity prediction on 6 widely used datasets, and 5 datasets in relation prediction. Furthermore, the case study shows how our model can deal with unseen entities and relations.

Blockchain with drug traceability in medical supply chain with Henry gas solubility optimisation algorithm

The drug traceability model is used for ensuring drug quality and its safety for customers in the medical supply chain. The healthcare supply chain is a complex network, which is susceptible to failures and leakage of information because of cyber security attacks. Hence, this research aims to design a blockchain to perform traceability of drugs using Henry Gas Solubility Optimisation (HGSO). The entities include distributors, wholesalers, retailers, blockchain and patients. This model comprises initialisation, registration, key generation, authentication, drug distribution with traceability and key generation phases. Any exchange of medicines needs the approval of both sender and receiver. The drugs are registered in the blockchain, which then generates a secret key that is obtained using HGSO. The verification and authentication of drugs are performed after the authentication process. The implemented model outperformed with the response time, memory, normalised variance, and privacy of 32.678 sec, 84 MB, 0.958 and 0.958. Copyright © 2025 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Resource investment for DDoS attack resistant SDN: a practical assessment

Software-defined networks(SDNs) present a novel network architecture that is widely used in various datacenters. However, SDNs also suffer from many types of security threats, among which a distributed denial of service(DDoS) attack, which aims to drain the resources of SDN switches and controllers,is one of the most common. Once the switch or controller is damaged, the network services can be *** defense schemes against DDoS attacks have been proposed from the perspective of attack detection;however, such defense schemes are known to suffer from a time consuming and unpromising accuracy, which could result in an unavailable network service before specific countermeasures are taken. To address this issue through a systematic investigation, we propose an elaborate resource-management mechanism against DDoS attacks in an SDN. Specifically, by considering the SDN topology, we leverage the M/M/c queuing model to measure the resistance of an SDN to DDoS attacks. Network administrators can therefore invest a reasonable number of resources into SDN switches and SDN controllers to defend against DDoS attacks while guaranteeing the quality of service(QoS). Comprehensive analyses and empirical data-based experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

data race is one of the most important concurrent anomalies in multi-threaded *** con-straint-based techniques are leveraged into race detection,which is able to find all the races that can be found by any oth-er sound race ***,this constraint-based approach has serious limitations on helping programmers analyze and understand data ***,it may report a large number of false positives due to the unrecognized dataflow propa-gation of the ***,it recommends a wide range of thread context switches to schedule the reported race(in-cluding the false one)whenever this race is exposed during the constraint-solving *** ad hoc recommendation imposes too many context switches,which complicates the data race *** address these two limitations in the state-of-the-art constraint-based race detection,this paper proposes DFTracker,an improved constraint-based race detec-tor to recommend each data race with minimal thread context ***,we reduce the false positives by ana-lyzing and tracking the dataflow in the *** this means,DFTracker thus reduces the unnecessary analysis of false race *** further propose a novel algorithm to recommend an effective race schedule with minimal thread con-text switches for each data *** experimental results on the real applications demonstrate that 1)without removing any true data race,DFTracker effectively prunes false positives by 68%in comparison with the state-of-the-art constraint-based race detector;2)DFTracker recommends as low as 2.6-8.3(4.7 on average)thread context switches per data race in the real world,which is 81.6%fewer context switches per data race than the state-of-the-art constraint based race ***,DFTracker can be used as an effective tool to understand the data race for programmers.

This systematic review gave special attention to diabetes and the advancements in food and nutrition needed to prevent or manage diabetes in all its forms. There are two main forms of diabetes mellitus: Type 1 (T1D) and Type 2 (T2D). The loss of beta cells brought on by an autoimmune reaction causes the pancreas to be unable to produce enough insulin, which leads to Type 1 diabetes. A deficiency of insulin could arise as the illness worsens. The most frequent cause is a combination of excessive body weight and inadequate exercise. Currently, 90–95% of patients have Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Age-specific normal blood sugar ranges exist and knowing them is crucial for determining a target blood sugar level that is both healthy and appropriate. The main takeaway is that diet regimens ought to be tailored to the patient’s requirements and should account for their capacity for change. Carbohydrates are the nutrients that have the biggest impact on the rise in blood glucose. In this paper, we have proposed a novel method for glucose monitoring and diet recommendations for diabetic patients using fog computing. A paradigm known as fog computing makes use of the benefits that come from using both cloud and edge devices to support modern computing systems by offering high-quality services, cutting latency, facilitating mobility, supporting multi-tenancy, and many other features. © 2025 by Begell House, Inc.

Unsupervised Domain Adaptation on Point Clouds via High-Order Geometric Structure Modeling

Point clouds can capture the precise geometric information of objects and scenes, which are an important source of 3-D data and one of the most popular 3-D geometric data structures for cognitions in many real-world applications like automatic driving and remote sensing. However, due to the influence of sensors and varieties of objects, the point clouds obtained by different devices may suffer obvious geometric changes, resulting in domain gaps that are prone to the neural networks trained in one domain failing to preserve the performance in other domains. To alleviate the above problem, this article proposes an unsupervised domain adaptation framework, named HO-GSM, as the first attempt to model high-order geometric structures of point clouds. First, we construct multiple self-supervised tasks to learn the invariant semantic and geometric features of the source and target domains, especially to capture the feature invariance of high-order geometric structures of point clouds. Second, the discriminative feature space of target domain is acquired by using contrastive learning to refine domain alignment to specific class level. Experiments on the PointDA-10 and GraspNetPC-10 collection of datasets show that the proposed HO-GSM can significantly outperform the state-of-the-art counterparts. © 2020 IEEE.

Constrained Multiobjective Optimization via Relaxations on Both Constraints and Objectives

Since most multiobjective optimization problems in real-world applications contain constraints, constraint-handling techniques (CHTs) are necessary for a multiobjective optimizer. However, existing CHTs give no relaxation to objectives, resulting in the elimination of infeasible dominated solutions that are promising (potentially useful but inferior) for detecting feasible regions and the constrained Pareto front (CPF). To overcome this drawback, in this work, we propose an objective relaxation technique that can preserve promising by relaxing objective function values, i.e., convergence, through an adaptively adjusted relaxation factor. Further, we develop a new constrained multiobjective optimization evolutionary algorithm (CMOEA) based on relaxations on both constraints and objectives. The proposed algorithm evolves one population by the constraint relaxation technique to preserve promising infeasible solutions and the other population by both objective and constraint relaxation techniques to preserve promising infeasible dominated solutions. In this way, our method can overcome the drawback of existing CHTs. Besides, an archive update strategy is designed to maintain encountered feasible solutions by the two populations to approximate the CPF. Experiments on challenging benchmark problems and real-world problems have demonstrated the superiority or at least competitiveness of our proposed CMOEA. Moreover, to verify the generality of the objective relaxation technique, we embed it into two existing CMOEA frameworks and the results show that it can significantly improve the performance in handling challenging problems. © 2020 IEEE.
