In an efficient and flexible human-robot collaborative work environment, a robot team member must be able to recognize both explicit requests and implied actions from human users. Identifying “what to do” in such cases requires an agent to have the ability to construct associations between objects, their actions, and the effect of actions on the environment. In this regard, semantic memory is being introduced to understand the explicit cues and their relationships with available objects and required skills to make “tea” and “sandwich”. We have extended our previous hierarchical robot control architecture to add the capability to execute the most appropriate task based on both feedback from the user and the environmental context. To validate this system, two types of skills were implemented in the hierarchical task tree: 1) Tea making skills and 2) Sandwich making skills. During the conversation between the robot and the human, the robot was able to determine the hidden context using ontology and began to act accordingly. For instance, if the person says “I am thirsty” or “It is cold outside” the robot will start to perform the tea-making skill. In contrast, if the person says, “I am hungry” or “I need something to eat”, the robot will make the sandwich. A humanoid robot Baxter was used for this experiment. We tested three scenarios with objects at different positions on the table for each skill. We observed that in all cases, the robot used only objects that were relevant to the skill.

Deepepiil13: Deep Learning for Prediction of Il-13 Inducing Epitopes Using Pre-Trained Language Models and Multi-Window Convolutional Neural Networks

Interleukin-13 (IL-13) is a key cytokine involved in allergic inflammation and the cytokine storm associated with severe COVID-19. Identifying antigenic epitopes capable of inducing IL-13 holds therapeutic potential for developing epitope-based vaccines and immunomodulatory treatments. However, conventional methods for epitope prediction are often inefficient and inaccurate. This study presents DeepEpiIL13, a novel deep learning framework that integrates pre-trained language models and multi-window convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to rapidly and accurately predict IL-13-inducing epitopes from protein sequences. The ProtTrans pre-trained language model was employed to generate high-dimensional embeddings that capture rich contextual information from protein sequences. These embeddings were then inputted into a multi-window CNN architecture, enabling the efficient exploration of local and global sequence patterns associated with IL-13 induction. The proposed approach was rigorously evaluated using benchmark datasets and an independent SARS-CoV-2 dataset. DeepEpiIL13 achieved superior performance compared to traditional methods, with an impressive Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) of 0.52 and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.86 on the benchmark dataset. On the independent SARS-CoV-2 dataset, DeepEpiIL13 demonstrated remarkable robustness, attaining an MCC of 0.63 and an AUC of 0.92, highlighting its potential applicability in the context of COVID-19 research. This study introduces a powerful deep learning framework for accurate epitope prediction, offering new avenues for the development of epitope-based vaccines and immunotherapies targeting IL-13-mediated disorders. The successful identification of IL-13-inducing epitopes paves the way for novel therapeutic interventions against allergic diseases, inflammatory conditions, and potentially severe viral infections like COVID-19. © 2024, The Authors. computer vision algorithms can quickly analyze numerous images and identify useful information with high accuracy. Recently, computer vision has been used to identify 2D materials in microscope images. 2D materials have important fundamental properties allowing for their use in many potential applications, including many in quantum information science and engineering. In order to use these materials for research and product development, single-layer 2D crystallites must be prepared through an exfoliation procedure and then identified using reflected light optical microscopy. Performing these searches manually is a time-consuming and tedious task. Deploying deep learning-based computer vision algorithms for 2D material search can automate the flake detection task with minimal need for human intervention. In this work, we have implemented a new deep learning pipeline to classify crystallites of 2D materials based on coarse thickness classifications in reflected-light optical micrographs. We have used DetectorRS as the object detector and trained it on 177 images containing hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) flakes of varying thickness. Video Frame Interpolation (VFI) aims to synthesize intermediate frames between existing frames to enhance visual smoothness and quality. Beyond the conventional methods based on the reconstruction loss, recent works have employed generative models for improved perceptual quality. However, they require complex training and large computational costs for pixel space modeling. In this paper, we introduce disentangled Motion Modeling (MoMo), a diffusion-based approach for VFI that enhances visual quality by focusing on intermediate motion modeling. We propose a disentangled two-stage training process. In the initial stage, frame synthesis and flow models are trained to generate accurate frames and flows optimal for synthesis. In the subsequent stage, we introduce a motion diffusion model, which incorporates our novel U-Net architecture specifically designed for optical flow, to generate bi-directional flows between frames. By learning the simpler low-frequency representation of motions, MoMo achieves superior perceptual quality with reduced computational demands compared to the generative modeling methods on the pixel space. MoMo surpasses state-of-the-art methods in perceptual metrics across various benchmarks, demonstrating its efficacy and efficiency in VFI. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Multi-omics data clustering aims at assigning elements to their respective categories via exploiting the complementary information among multi-omics samples, with the widely application on data mining, bioinformatics, biomedicine and so on. Current multi-omics data clustering methods rely heavily on accurate sample-wise affinity estimation, which is limited by large heterogeneous gap among different sampling spaces. In this paper, we propose a novelly collaborative clustering method, which measures feature-wise matching instead of sample-wise affinity for sample assignment via the guidance of the highly matched features. The method consists of three modules. Firstly, the feature matching is learned by feature-wise correlation. Secondly, the feature matching matrix is factorized into two coded bases within yielded feature spaces. Thirdly, the sample assignment is achieved by joint sample reconstruction employing the two bases. The sample-wise assignment and feature-wise matching are optimized in a collaborative scheme with mutually reinforcing relationship. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed method compared with benchmark ones. © 2021 IEEE.

It has become increasingly important since the introduction of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to ensure the security of IoT networks. Network anomalies and threats can be identified and predicted using a variety of intrusion detection systems (IDS). Despite the fact that the Internet of Things is vulnerable to attacks, early detection of malicious behavior can prevent data from being compromised. In this work, the primary goal is to develop machine artificial intelligence energy efficient models that can be used to detect attacks on the Internet of Things network. Normal and attack data from the IoT environment must be collected in order to construct a model. The Bayesian Network, the Artificial Neural Network, and the Support Vector Machine are considered to have the most promise. Using roundtrip time and power consumption data, a traditional three-layer Artificial Neural Network is put through its paces in the real world. © 2021 IEEE.

In the current landscape of deep learning research, there is a predominant emphasis on achieving high predictive accuracy in supervised tasks involving large image and language datasets. However, a broader perspective reveals a multitude of overlooked metrics, tasks, and data types, such as uncertainty, active and continual learning, and scientific data, that demand attention. Bayesian deep learning (BDL) constitutes a promising avenue, offering advantages across these diverse settings. This paper posits that BDL can elevate the capabilities of deep learning. It revisits the strengths of BDL, acknowledges existing challenges, and highlights some exciting research avenues aimed at addressing these obstacles. Looking ahead, the discussion focuses on possible ways to combine large-scale foundation models with BDL to unlock their full potential. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

Fall risk assessment is an effective and simple measure to evaluate the balance of people especially the elderly who are likely to have balance disorder. Lose of body balance increases a fall risk which could lead to severe damage to aging persons. In this paper, we propose to apply pose estimation technique based on PoseNet method to detect body joints from webcam's video for two types of fall risk assessment: Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSTS) and 30-Second Chair Stand Test (30CST). The experiments were performed with 17 volunteers concurrently with the measures of a healthcare expert. The results revealed that our proposed technique corresponds well with the measure of the expert evaluating by a Pearson correlation coefficient which equals to 0.903 and 0.980 for FTSTS and 30CST respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

Maternal health is a critical concern, particularly for individuals who are pregnant and will shape the future generations. However, not all expectant mothers receive tailored attention and care for their unique health needs. Consequently, many mothers face high levels of health risks during pregnancy, highlighting the importance of classifying maternal health risks. Classification can help identify influential factors affecting maternal health and predict risk levels for individual mothers. In the field of data mining, various classification methods exist for analyzing complex datasets. This study focuses on two widely used algorithms: decision tree and k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN). By employing these algorithms, we aim to classify a dataset comprising 1,014 records of maternal health risk levels. Through cross-validation and T-tests, we rigorously evaluate the performance of the decision tree and kNN algorithms in this context. Our findings indicate that the kNN algorithm is more suitable for classifying maternal health risks, achieving a significantly higher accuracy of 71.50% compared to the decision tree algorithm's accuracy of 70.71%. This result establishes the superiority of the kNN algorithm in accurately classifying maternal health risks. These findings have implications for developing targeted interventions and tailored healthcare strategies to mitigate identified risks.
