Robots have become increasingly important in a variety of life domains as a result of the rapid advancement of technology. Additionally, robots are employed in education as teaching assistants in science, art, and language courses. This research aims to explore the potential of robotic systems as a multipurpose tool for increasing cultural awareness, language proficiency, and communicative competence in the GenAI era. Language games, conversation simulations, and real-time feedback mechanisms are just a few examples of interactive scenarios enabled by virtual robot systems or tutor robots that enable immersive language experiences that go beyond the limitations of conventional schooling. This research contributes knowledge that explores how AI can be used to personalize language teaching according to the needs and learning styles of each student in higher education. The total population of undergraduate students involved in this research was 350 for the 2023 academic year, with 24 students selected purposefully based on sample characteristics from this group who were exposed to using AI for one semester. The research method used is a mix method with quantitative analysis of the results of surveys and interviews with students who are known to have given positive responses and proposes a comprehensive strategy for using AI robot technology in EFL classrooms, which can significantly improve effective learning outcomes. The survey results also show that if educators have a solid understanding of the relationship between linguistic acquisition and technological advances, they will be better prepared to design engaging, individualized lessons that prepare their students to use the language effectively in real-world contexts. The robot-assisted language learning (RALL) approach used in this study, with the integration of robots in the classroom, has the potential to change the way people learn languages to make it more interesting, fun, and motivating, increase engagement

The Internet of Everything (IoE) is the paradigm of intelligent services that supports a ubiquitous and always-connected world of smart sensors and actuators, human and non-human in a cyber-physical lifestyle. Recent years have witnessed the fast proliferation of smart devices. In addition, these functional smart sensors possess powerful computation and communication capabilities and contribute to intelligent services outcomes of IoE-based applications. Then by adopting a knowledge-based approach on sensors smartness, we make a comparative assessment and classify smart sensors (image sensors, temperature sensors, proximity sensors, speed sensors, and sound sensors) regarding intelligence levels. We extracted valuable conclusions and inferences from this classification, providing insights and future directions towards promised benefits offered by distilled intelligence in smart sensors applications. Natural language understanding tasks require a comprehensive understanding of natural language and further reasoning about it, on the basis of holistic information at different levels to gain comprehensive knowledge. In recent years, pre-trained language models (PrLMs) have shown impressive performance in natural language understanding. However, they rely mainly on extracting context-sensitive statistical patterns without explicitly modeling linguistic information, such as semantic relationships entailed in natural language. In this work, we propose EventBERT, an event-based semantic representation model that takes BERT as the backbone and refines with event-based structural semantics in terms of graph convolution networks. EventBERT benefits simultaneously from rich event-based structures embodied in the graph and contextual semantics learned in pre-trained model BERT. Experimental results on the GLUE benchmark show that the proposed model consistently outperforms the baseline model. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Virtual reality technology provides a strong sense of immersion and interactivity. It is widely used in the fields of anxiety relief, fear therapy, and depression regulation. However, objectively evaluating the emotional intervention effect of virtual reality technology is a difficult problem. The main purpose of this paper is to explore the use of EEG signals to identify individual emotional states in virtual reality scenarios and to improve the computational efficiency and recognition accuracy of emotional valence. To induce the target emotional state of the participants, we established a relatively standard emotion-induced virtual reality video library. The EEG data of the participants were collected synchronously as they watched the virtual reality video. The results show that the emotion recognition performance of multiple features (energy spectrum, differential entropy, differential asymmetry, and rational asymmetry) is better than that of a single feature. The radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) performed better than the deep belief network (DBN). RBFNN achieves the highest average classification accuracy of 91.1%. By combining the feature selection (F-test) method with the RBFNN, an ideal classification performance can be maintained with computational efficiency improvements. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the features extracted from the theta band outperform features extracted from other bands in emotional valence decoding. These results may contribute to the application of EEG-based affective computing technology in the field of psychological rehabilitation and assessment. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). The rapid rise in usage of mobile devices have not shown any signs of flattening or slowing down. Some efforts in the standardization bodies are underway to define new ways to boost data rate, network capacity and lower the latency by enhancing existing 4G technologies and by incorporating new technologies in 5G. Since lower spectrum has fewer resources, the LTE of unlicensed spectrum LTE-U is being proposed to extend LTE to unlicensed spectrum. Streaming data traffic for licensed spectrum on LTE-U can improve the performance of the system significantly. In this paper LTE-U deployment by the LAA is implemented using the LBT mechanism on a flexible SDR testbed. © 2022 International Foundation for Telemetering. All rights reserved.

Does the SARS-CoV-2 virus cause patients' chest X-Rays ground-glass opacities? Does an IDH-mutation cause differences in patients' MRI images? Conventional causal discovery algorithms, although well developed to uncover the cause-effect relationships on structured data, cannot elucidate causal relations between unstructured images and structured scalar variables due to the complexity of the former. In this paper, we consider causal discovery between images and structured (scalar) variables. Specifically, we derive low dimensional image representations to analyze with structured variables. We propose a two-module amortized variational algorithm named Cross-Modal Variational Causal representation and structure Learning (CMCL). CMCL jointly learns identifiable representations given a set of independent structured variables and causal relations via formulating latent representations and structured variables into a direct acyclic graph. Moreover, we further enforce counterfactual invariance/variance onto representations. We demonstrate that CMCL outperforms other related methods on synthetic datasets and validate causal relations on semi-synthetic datasets by visualization. © 2022 P.N. Argaw, E. Healey & I.S. Data preprocessing is a fundamental stage in deep learning modeling and serves as the cornerstone of reliable data analytics. These deep learning models require significant amounts of training data to be effective, with small datasets often resulting in overfitting and poor performance on large datasets. One solution to this problem is parallelization in data modeling, which allows the model to fit the training data more effectively, leading to higher accuracy on large data sets and higher performance overall. In this research, we developed a novel approach that effectively deployed tools such as MPI and MPI4Py from parallel computing to handle data preprocessing and deep learning modeling processes. As a case study, the technique is applied to COVID-19 data from state of Tennessee, USA. Finally, the effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated by comparing it with existing methods without parallel computing concepts like MPI4Py. Our results demonstrate promising outcome for the deployment of parallel computing in modeling to minimize high computational cost. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We present an automated learning framework for a robotic sketching agent that is capable of learning stroke-based rendering and motor control simultaneously. We formulate the robotic sketching problem as a deep decoupled hierarchical reinforcement learning;two policies for stroke-based rendering and motor control are learned independently to achieve sub-tasks for drawing, and form a hierarchy when cooperating for real-world drawing. Without hand-crafted features, drawing sequences or trajectories, and inverse kinematics, the proposed method trains the robotic sketching agent from scratch. We performed experiments with a 6-DoF robot arm with 2F gripper to sketch doodles. Our experimental results show that the two policies successfully learned the sub-tasks and collaborated to sketch the target images. Also, the robustness and flexibility were examined by varying drawing tools and surfaces. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Many economically essential crops in Indonesia (such as coffee, tea, chocolate, or copra) require storage or drying under certain environmental conditions, especially temperature and humidity. The solar dryer dome, typically used for agricultural purposes in Indonesia, produces a sufficient amount of heat to increase the evaporation rate inside the dome and reduce the moisture content of the commodity. A hybrid solar dryer accompanied by a photovoltaic panel, fan, and ventilation system is generally suitable. The system can provide an optimum environment with minimum control. However, as the outdoor temperature and humidity change dramatically, such as at night time, more control is required. Based on Industry 4.0 technologies, we have developed a new kind of hybrid solar dryer that provides an optimum environment 24/7. The system, called Smart Dome 4.0, is an intelligent, low-cost, self-sufficient drying and storage system to support Indonesia Agriculture 4.0. The system has a local power generation unit to self-sustain the required energy and operate without connecting to the electricity grid. The system utilizes a machine-learning algorithm to predict the environmental condition and optimally uses self-generated electric power. The developed Smart Dome 4.0 technology is critical to producing a sustainable solar dome under drastic environmental dynamics. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper we consider the estimation of unknown parameters in Bayesian inverse problems. In most cases of practical interest, there are several barriers to performing such estimation, This includes a numerical approximation of a solution of a differential equation and, even if exact solutions are available, an analytical intractability of the marginal likelihood and its associated gradient, which is used for parameter estimation. The focus of this article is to deliver unbiased estimates of the unknown parameters, that is, stochastic estimators that, in expectation, are equal to the maximizer of the marginal likelihood, and possess no numerical approximation error. Based upon the ideas of [4] we develop a new approach for unbiased parameter estimation for Bayesian inverse problems. We prove unbiasedness and establish numerically that the associated estimation procedure is faster than the current state-of-the-art methodology for this problem.
