The smart cities concept is strongly related to energy efficiency and low carbon patterns, what that refers to meeting the sustainability criteria established by regulatory mechanisms. The Smart City Index (SCI) data can reach a higher quality of living by observing aspects as mobility, health, safety, transparency, smart management, and many others, like the waste management. Thus, this set of indicators was used to evaluate the e-waste management as an emergent challenge in urban cities, providing both, the generation of waste from the intense consumption of electronic devices, as well meeting the questions arising from urbanization from the integration of digital solutions. This study proposes a model of analysis using simple linear regression and k-mean clustering as correlation methods. The findings suggested correlation between the SCI ranking, the E-waste generated, and the economic situation of the entire set of smart cities. Nevertheless, it was found weak correlation for the best rated cities. The results provided the perception that it is possible to identify correlation from the Smart City Index and aspects from the e-waste management system, enabling the discussion over the importance of next smart city indexes and given a new perspective to the e-waste management. © 2021 IEEE.

Integrated photodetectors are crucial for their high speed, sensitivity, and efficient power consumption. In these devices, photocurrent generation is primarily attributed to the photovoltaic (PV) effect, driven by electron-hole separations, and the photothermoelectric (PTE) effect, which results from temperature gradients via the Seebeck effect. As devices shrink, the overlap of these mechanisms—both dependent on the Fermi level and band structure—complicates their separate evaluation at the nanoscale. This study introduces a novel 3D photocurrent nano-imaging technique specifically designed to distinctly map these mechanisms in a Schottky barrier photodiode featuring a molybdenum disulfide and gold (MoS2-Au) interface. We uncover a significant PTE-dominated region extending several hundred nanometers from the electrode edge, a characteristic facilitated by the weak electrostatic forces typical in 2D materials. Unexpectedly, we find that incorporating hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), known for its high thermal conductivity, markedly enhances the PTE response. This counterintuitive enhancement stems from an optimal overlap between thermal and Seebeck profiles, presenting a new pathway to boost device performance. Our findings highlight the capability of this imaging technique to not only advance optoelectronic applications but also to deepen our understanding of light-matter interactions within low-dimensional systems. © 2024, CC BY.

Isoforms refer to different mRNA molecules transcribed from the same gene, which can be translated into proteins with varying structures and functions. Predicting the functions of isoforms is an essential topic in bioinformatics as it can provide valuable insights into the intricate mechanisms of gene regulation and biological processes. Conventionally, gene function labels are standardized in Gene Ontology (GO) terms. However, traditional methods for predicting isoform function are largely limited by the absence of isoform-specific labels, sparse annotations, and the vast number of GO terms. To address these issues, we propose HANIso, a deep learning-based method for isoform function prediction. HANIso leverages a pretrained protein language model to extract features from protein sequences. It also integrates heterogeneous information, such as isoform sequence features, GO annotations, and isoform interaction data, using a Heterogeneous Graph Attention Network (HAN). This allows the model to learn the importance of different sources of information and their semantic relationships through the attention mechanism. Our method can predict function labels at both the gene level and isoform level. We conduct experiments on two species datasets, and the results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods on both AUROC and AUPRC. HANIso has the potential to overcome the limitations of traditional methods and provide a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of isoform function.

The rise of artificial intelligence agents and information technology platforms governed by data-driven algorithms has had profound impacts on the way knowledge work is managed and carried out. Concerning the novel uses of digital work platforms, the arising tensions might suggest that the socio-technical design frameworks adopted by major tech firms are becoming less viable and in some cases ineffective. We propose a conceptual architecture to support a socio-technical framework for exploring Personal Knowledge Ecologies in the context of the digital knowledge economy. This framework aims to increase the degree of individual freedom for the interoperation of these knowledge information infrastructures.

CoCo-Agent: A Comprehensive cognitive MLLM Agent for Smartphone GUI Automation

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have shown remarkable potential as human-like autonomous language agents to interact with real-world environments, especially for graphical user interface (GUI) automation. However, those GUI agents require comprehensive cognition ability including exhaustive perception and reliable action response. We propose a Comprehensive cognitive LLM Agent, CoCo-Agent, with two novel approaches, comprehensive environment perception (CEP) and conditional action prediction (CAP), to systematically improve the GUI automation performance. First, CEP facilitates the GUI perception through different aspects and granularity, including screenshots and complementary detailed layouts for the visual channel and historical actions for the textual channel. Second, CAP decomposes the action prediction into sub-problems: action type prediction and action target conditioned on the action type. With our technical design, our agent achieves new state-of-the-art performance on AITW and META-GUI benchmarks, showing promising abilities in realistic scenarios. In our study, β-Ga2O3 particles of various morphologies deposited on FTO glass substrates through hydrothermal method under different pH conditions and pre-stirring temperatures. The particles examined using XRD, FESEM, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy instruments. The results showed that the β-Ga2O3 microrods prepared with pH=3.15 solution at different pre-stirring temperatures followed by hydrothermal reaction had several crystalline orientations ([−401], [002], [403]). The FTIR and Raman spectra measurements confirmed the existence of Ga−O−Ga and Ga−OH bending modes. In the range of pH=3-11, the EGFET-pH sensor prepared with β-Ga2O3 microrods shown a high current-pH sensitivity of 0.541 (mA)1/2 /pH with a linearity of 97.83 % and a high voltage-pH sensitivity of 73.99 mV/pH with linearity of 96.85 %. These results suggest that β-Ga2O3 microrods have pH sensitivity higher than the ideal Nernstian response. This confirms the use of β-Ga2O3 microrods as a sensing membrane in high-performance pH sensors or biosensors. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The increasing use of digital payment systems has led to a rise in fraudulent activities, presenting a significant challenge in ensuring secure transactions. This research focuses on implementing the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm with a Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel to detect fraud in digital payment systems. One of the main challenges addressed in this study is the severe class imbalance in the dataset, where fraudulent transactions account for only 0.17% of total transactions. To overcome this, the SMOTE (Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique) method was applied to balance the dataset, allowing the model to better recognize fraudulent patterns. The results indicate that the SVM model achieved an accuracy of 99.93%, with a precision of 86.23% and a recall of 75.51%. These results demonstrate that SVM, combined with SMOTE and RBF kernel, is highly effective in detecting fraudulent transactions while minimizing false positives. This research provides a strong foundation for improving fraud detection models in the context of digital payment systems, offering enhanced security and trust for users. Further research could explore hybrid models and real-time data analysis to improve performance.

Optimized Transmission Strategy for UAV-RIS 2.0 Assisted Communications Using Rate Splitting Multiple Access

In this paper, we study the transmission strategy of a ground-based beyond diagonal reconfigurable intelligent surface (BD-RIS), a.k.a RIS 2.0, in a network where multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) simultaneously transmit signals to the respective groups of users. It is assumed that each group is assigned subcarriers orthogonal to those assigned to other groups and rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) is adopted within each group. A corresponding mixed integer nonlinear programming problem (MINLP) is formulated, which aims to jointly optimize 1) allocation of BD-RIS elements to groups, 2) BD-RIS phase rotations, 3) rate allocation in RSMA, and 4) precoders. To solve the problem, we propose using generalized benders decomposition (GBD) augmented with a manifold-based algorithm. GBD splits the MINLP problem into two sub-problems, namely the primal and the relaxed master problem, which are solved alternately and iteratively. In the primal problem, we apply block coordinate descent (BCD) to manage the coupling of variables effectively. Moreover, we recognize the manifold structure in the phase rotation constraint of BD-RIS, enabling the Riemannian conjugate gradient (RCG). Ga2O3 nanorods synthesized by hydrothermal method for dual-functional sensing of pH value and glucose

In this work, hydrothermal (HT)-synthesized gallium oxide (Ga2O3) nanorods were applied on indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrates to create a dual-functional pH-glucose sensing device. Extended-gate field-effect transistors (EGFETs) were designed for pH and glucose sensing, and the response to pH levels ranging from 1 to 11 was tested using both chemical bath deposition (CBD) and high-pressure hydrothermal methods. Two sensor configurations, Ga2O3(CBD)/ITO/glass and Ga2O3(HT)/ITO/glass, were immersed in solution pH1 to 11 and cultured medium for hydrogen ion and glucose sensing. The results demonstrated that, for pH sensing in different samples, both IDS-VDS analysis and IDS-VGS analysis showed superior linearity and sensitivity with the HT method. For glucose detection, the HT method was selected for further experiments due to its maintained concentration-dependent relationship and selectivity towards various common sugars. When using culture medium DMEM as the sample (4.5 mg/ml glucose concentration), the accuracy of glucose estimation reached 99%. Stability and biocompatibility tests were also conducted, and the results indicated consistent performance. In summary, the HT-synthesized Ga2O3 nanorods exhibited high sensitivity, selectivity, and stability without affecting cell growth. Therefore, they hold great potential for applications not only in general blood glucose sensing but also in studying cell microenvironment metabolism. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

In agricultural water research, the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has emerged as a pivotal approach for large-scale data collection. Water availability in the context of water quality is very important, both for domestic and industrial purposes. For domestic purposes, drinking water and bathing water are separated. Meanwhile, for the palm oil industry, boiler filler is differentiated from additional process water (dilution water). Water quality parameters can be assessed from turbidity and Total Dissolve Solid (TDS). Measurements using measuring instruments separately and repeatedly require significant energy, time, and costs. This research was conducted with the primary objective of presenting a novel method for categorizing water quality with the approach of IoT sensor technology. The research methodology entailed the utilization of an integrated IoT water sensors system in conjunction with manual water categorization. The methods consist of (1) system design, (2) design and installation of sensor and IoT-based microcontrollers, and (3) accuracy and precision testing compared with laboratory measurements. The precision of the integrated IoT water sensors was assessed through a dedicated sensor precision test, resulting in an accuracy rate of 94.4% for the turbidity sensor and 97.5% for the TDS sensor. Notably, this approach successfully discriminated drinking water with valid categorization, while other water types, including groundwater, water with tea, and water with coffee, yielded null categorization results.
