Seamless communication between authorities, people, and smart devices is crucial in today's globally interconnected world. Unprecedented demands on software design result from the advent of ubiquitous connectivity, which allows connections at any time and from any location. By structuring applications as separate services that can communicate both internally inside a platform and externally across platforms, microservices (MS) architecture satisfies these requirements. One of the most difficult parts, though, is still controlling communication between MS services, which calls for knowledge of the best design patterns. In order to solve this, we suggest a context-aware recommender system that is adapted to MS design patterns. This system not only makes recommendations for appropriate patterns, but it also gives statistical scores that show how relevant each solution is to the particular issue at hand. Other patterns with ratings indicating their possible feasibility are also displayed by our algorithm. On the other hand, sentence transformers handle intricate, human-like problem descriptions, while our method uses MS Domain Ontologies to distinguish pattern applications, constraints, and best practices. Our methodology provides a refined examination of solution suitability and recommendations through the use of weighing and correlation algorithms. Extensively tested with more than 237 developer-style scenarios, our framework offers qualitative and quantitative insights into its performance and efficacy, showing notable gains over current solutions in terms of offering pattern-specific, contextually accurate guidance for MS communication challenges.

In this article, we propose a normalized time-fractional Black–Scholes (TFBS) equation. The proposed model uses a normalized time-fractional derivative which has a distinctive feature wherein a weight function possesses the property that its integral with respect to time is always equal to one. This feature ensures a well-balanced integration over time and provides a fair comparison between different fractional orders. An implicit finite difference method is used for the numerical solution of the TFBS equation. We perform several standard numerical tests to examine the effect of the fractional parameter on the option pricing. These experiments are designed to investigate how variations in the fractional parameter influence pricing outcomes and provide valuable insights into the model’s behavior under different conditions. The computational results demonstrate the model’s potential for capturing more intricate market dynamics, which makes the proposed model a promising tool for financial analysis. Symmetries are ubiquitous in science, aiding theoretical comprehension by discerning patterns in mathematical models and natural phenomena. This work introduces a method for assessing the extent of symmetry within a time series. We explore both microscopic and macroscopic features extracted from a recurrence plot. By analyzing the statistics of small recurrence matrices, our approach delves into microscale dynamics, facilitating the identification of symmetric time series segments through diagonal macroscale structures on a recurrence plot. We validate our approach by successfully quantifying involution symmetries for three-dimensional dynamical models, specifically, order-2 rotational symmetry in the Lorenz '63 model, and inversion symmetry in the Chua circuit. Our quantifier also detects symmetry breaking in the modified Lorenz model for El Niño phenomenon. The method can be applied in a versatile manner, not only to three-dimensional trajectories but also to univariate time series. Symmetry quantification in time series is promising for enhancing dynamical system modeling and profiling.

In real world applications of multiclass classification models, misclassification in an important class (e.g., stop sign) can be significantly more harmful than in other classes (e.g., no parking). Thus, it is crucial to improve the recall of an important class while maintaining overall accuracy. For this problem, we found that improving the separation of important classes relative to other classes in the feature space is effective. Existing methods that give a class-sensitive penalty for cross-entropy loss do not improve the separation. Moreover, the methods designed to improve separations between all classes are unsuitable for our purpose because they do not consider the important classes. To achieve the separation, we propose a loss function that explicitly gives loss for the feature space, called class-sensitive additive angular margin (CAMRI) loss. CAMRI loss is expected to reduce the variance of an important class due to the addition of a penalty to the angle between the important class features and the corresponding weight vectors in the feature space. In addition, concentrating the penalty on only the important class hardly sacrifices separating the other classes. Experiments on CIFAR-10, GTSRB, and AwA2 showed that CAMRI loss could improve the recall of a specific class without sacrificing accuracy. In particular, compared with GTSRB's second-worst class recall when trained with cross-entropy loss, CAMRI loss improved recall by 9%. © 2023 The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers.

COVID-19 outbreaks and becomes serious from 2019 winter. Taking body temperature, wearing masks, recording footprint and avoiding crowds become important tasks and require a lot of manpower support for the prevention of the epidemic in every. In this study, we have integrated the infrared thermometer devices to measure people temperature and the people identities through RGB images at the entrance of buildings. Using the computer vision and deep learning methods, we would like to build a 24/7 and region-wide coverage assistance system to automatically record the footprint of a specific people in the building. We also detect if people taking off their masks in the yard at any time. The processing videos are grabbed from the existing CCTV systems. The developed system also locates the crowd and calculate the number of people in a specified area, and the manager can know the number of people and control the access in real time. It will reduce the burden of manpower. In addition, we have optimized the system performance to handle multiple camera videos and to reduce the hardware cost at the same time. © 2023 IEEE.

Internet of Things (IoT) technology has widely used in industrial production. Most cases focused on designing new equipment or processes. However, small and medium enterprises especially the powder metallurgy manufacturers in Taiwan would not replace existing production equipment due to the finical problems. In this study, an IoT-based platform is conducted to extract the sintering parameters for technology to augment sintering furnaces by installing sensors and data transmission modules, setting a sintering parameter extraction platform for powder metallurgy sintering furnace. Long-term monitoring and remote control are the main technologies for solving three problems during the sintering process, i.e., temperature, atmosphere, and time. Monitoring targets include checking whether the heaters are damaged, ensuring stable air flow meter readings, and verifying the normal speed of the conveyor belt. Additionally, remote control technology has been developed to execute cooling and reheating processes on the sintering furnace. The staying time on-site for personnel is reduced and the sintering time is increased for production increase during working hours. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper considers a cloud streaming game using WebRTC. Since the cloud streaming game consists of a server and a client, the network quality between them affects the game. Among the network quality degradation factors, we focus on delay jitter. We reduce the effect of the jitter by buffering. We conduct a subjective experiment of a single-player action game and evaluate application-level QoS and QoE. We investigate the impact of buffering on the video and audio quality of the user playing the game.

In this paper, we consider the problem of characterizing a robust global dependence between two brain regions where each region may contain several voxels or channels. This work is driven by experiments to investigate the dependence between two cortical regions and to identify differences in brain networks between brain states, e.g., alert and drowsy states. The most common approach to explore dependence between two groups of variables (or signals) is via canonical correlation analysis (CCA). However, it is limited to only capturing linear associations and is sensitive to outlier observations. These limitations are crucial because brain network connectivity is likely to be more complex than linear and that brain signals may exhibit heavy-tailed properties. To overcome these limitations, we develop a robust method, Kendall canonical coherence (KenCoh), for learning monotonic connectivity structure among neuronal signals filtered at given frequency bands. Furthermore, we propose the KenCoh-based permutation test to investigate the differences in brain network connectivity between two different states. Our simulation study demonstrates that KenCoh is competitive to the traditional variance-covariance estimator and outperforms the later when the underlying distributions are heavy-tailed. We apply our method to EEG recordings from a virtual-reality driving experiment. Our proposed method led to further insights on the differences of frontal-parietal cross-dependence network when the subject is alert and when the subject is drowsy and that left-parietal channel drives this dependence at the beta-band. © 2024, CC BY.

Silicon-based charge trapping memory (CTM) devices currently dominate the nonvolatile memory (NVM) technology due to their excellent reliability, scalability, and maturity of the manufacturing process;however, they are rigid, which limits their potential in futuristic applications, such as wearables and flexible displays, among many others;moreover, the majority of previously reported studies on flexible NVM have been limited to either nonsilicon-based CTM or to emerging NVM technologies, such as ferroelectric random access memory and memristors, among others, which still need to overcome different challenges, including, but not limited to, reliability issues and complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) compatibility. In this article, a flexible silicon-based CTM device is developed using a volumetric reduction process. A MOS memory structure with a 7-nm thin Si3N4 layer embedded between 5-nm tunneling (SiO2) and 9-nm blocking oxides (Al2O3) is first fabricated. Next, a backside sequential etching process transforms the rigid die into an ultrathin (20μm) flexible Si die for future application in flexible electronics. The fabricated two-terminal device exhibits a 2.32 V memory window in both rigid and bent states, as observed using capacitance-voltage measurements. A three-terminal version of the device was also developed, where the source and drain terminals were activated using an in situ doped plasma-enhanced CVD (PECVD) process. The flexible encapsulated chip was tested using current-voltage measurements, and the performance was compared at different mechanical bending conditions. The electrical characterization confirms that the flexible devices show similar endurance (104 cycles) and retention (105s) performances to their rigid counterparts. © 2022 IEEE.
