While neural networks can be approximated by linear models as their width increases, certain properties of wide neural networks cannot be captured by linear models. In this work we show that recently proposed Neural Quadratic Models can exhibit the "catapult phase" (Lewkowycz et al., 2020) that arises when training such models with large learning rates. We then empirically show that the behaviour of neural quadratic models parallels that of neural networks in generalization, especially in the catapult phase regime. Our analysis further demonstrates that quadratic models can be an effective tool for analysis of neural networks. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. FERMixNet: An Occlusion Robust Facial Expression Recognition Model with Facial Mixing Augmentation and Mid-Level Representation Learning

Facial expressions can provide a better understanding of people's mental status and attitudes towards specific things. However, facial occlusion in real world is an unfavorable phenomenon that greatly affects the performance of facial expression recognition models. Recent works addressing the occlusion problem have primarily relied on attention mechanisms or occlusion discarding methods that focus on non-occluded regions of the face. However, these methods have not achieved a good balance between occlusion robustness and model efficiency. In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient model, called FERMixNet, for occluded facial expression recognition. The model incorporates a novel facial mixing augmentation strategy (FERMix) that generates new training samples by simulating real-world facial occlusion and preserving high expression-related semantic information. By co-training the original and newly generated samples, the model's occlusion robustness is improved without increasing its complexity during inference. Additionally, to further enhance the model's occlusion robustness, we include mid-level representation learning in the network to learn the discriminative non-occluded local features of the samples with low computational cost. Extensive experiments on four public facial occlusion datasets: Occlusion-RAF-DB, Occlusion-FERPlus and FED-RO show that the proposed model achieves state-of-the-art results which demonstrates the good robustness of our method for occluded facial expression recognition. Meanwhile, the proposed model also achieves state-of-the-art results on the in-the-wild facial expression datasets RAF-DB, AffectNet-8, and AffectNet-7. It proves that the proposed model has good application prospects in real world. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Under the wave of digital transformation, remote collaboration has become the new normal in the daily operation of enterprises. But at the same time, the risk of sensitive data leakage and the insufficiency of protection measures have increasingly become the focus of attention, posing a severe challenge to enterprise data security. To address this challenge, this paper proposes an innovative comprehensive data leakage prevention technical solution. This solution integrates cloud services and kernel technology and creates a set of data security protection systems for the remote collaboration working environment. This technical solution adopts a series of effective technical means, including asymmetric encryption, one-way data flow control, dynamic digital watermarking technology, injection attack defense, and program anti-hanging mechanism, significantly enhancing the security of data in the collaborative office system. The constructed framework includes multiple modules such as user management, service support, kernel driver, and user terminal. This technical solution can be integrated with enterprise remote collaboration office software, providing a higher level of security guarantee for the remote office environment, effectively curbing the risk of sensitive data leakage, and also providing solid technical support for the healthy and stable development of remote collaboration work. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Parkinson's Disease is a neurological progressive disorder that affects the nervous system of a human being, which effects the parts of the body. Tremors, imbalance, slowed movement, stiffness, difficulty in walking and talking etc. are observed. The reasons being, brain disorder, injuries, toxins certain drugs etc. The disease has no cure however treatment can be offered for relief from symptoms. However early detection can cure the disease in the first stages and extend the life span of the patient. This paper proposes a Ensembled learning model for early detection of Parkinsons disease through voice features. Random forest ensemble models have outperformed the Machine learning and Neural Network models in detecting disease from voice. An accuracy of 94.8% is achieved with this model with proper preprocessing techniques and training. As a future work the proposed model's software prototype can be released for mobile application for cost effective early detection of Parkinsons Disease. © 2024 IEEE.

Effectiveness of a touch-based hand therapeutic application for hand dexterity in children with handwriting difficulties-a pilot study

Handwriting is an important skill for children during their academic years. It is the coordination of perceptual-motor and cognitive abilities. Some children have difficulties in handwriting, which is an indication of issues in their fine motor skills. Nowadays, technology-based instructions are available to develop fine motor skills in children with handwriting disabilities. This paper describes the details of a newly developed software application namely ‘HanDex’ for children with handwriting difficulties and the experiments conducted to test its effectiveness. The application comprises six hand therapeutic activities which were designed based on the oscillation theory of handwriting. Initially, in the first phase, the experiments were conducted in nine primary school children from various schools, aged 8–12 years. Then, in the second phase, the software training was given to six upper primary school children (10–12 years) with handwriting issues. The results of using this application were promising. So one more study was conducted in another set of nine children (8–11 years) with handwriting difficulties. The participants were assessed by their special educators, class teachers and parents. After the pretest, they received a total of 18 handwriting practice sessions using this new application. At the end of the training sessions, a post test was conducted, to measure the progress in handwriting. The handwriting rubrics with eight handwriting parameters such as letter formation, placement, letter sizing, spacing of letters, legibility, speed, neatness, and spacing of words were used for handwriting assessment. The findings from the study suggested that touch-based hand therapeutic activities were beneficial for children with writing difficulties to improve their handwriting performance and tripod grip. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Digital pathology employing Whole Slide Images (WSIs) plays a pivotal role in cancer detection. Nevertheless, the manual examination of WSIs for the identification of various tissue regions presents formidable challenges due to its labor-intensive nature and subjective interpretation. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based semantic segmentation algorithms have emerged as valuable tools for assisting in this task by automating ROI delineation. The incorporation of attention modules and carefully designed loss functions has shown promise in further augmenting the performance of these algorithms. However, there exists a notable gap in research regarding the utilization of attention modules specifically for tissue segmentation, thereby constraining our comprehension and application of these modules in this context. This study introduces ETiSeg-Net (Edge-aware self attention to enhance Tissue Segmentation), a CNN-based semantic segmentation model that uses a novel edge-based attention module to achieve effective delineation of class boundaries. In addition, an innovative iterative training strategy is devised to efficiently optimize the model parameters. The study also conducts a comprehensive investigation into the impact of attention modules and loss functions on the efficacy of semantic segmentation models. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations of these semantic segmentation models are conducted using publicly available datasets. The findings underscore the potential of attention modules in enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of tissue semantic segmentation. © The Author(s) 2024.

In recent decades,fog computing has played a vital role in executing parallel computational tasks,specifically,scientific workflow *** cloud data centers,fog computing takes more time to run workflow ***,it is essential to develop effective models for Virtual Machine(VM)allocation and task scheduling in fog computing *** task scheduling,VM migration,and allocation,altogether optimize the use of computational resources across different fog *** process ensures that the tasks are executed with minimal energy consumption,which reduces the chances of resource *** this manuscript,the proposed framework comprises two phases:(i)effective task scheduling using a fractional selectivity approach and(ii)VM allocation by proposing an algorithm by the name of Fitness Sharing Chaotic Particle Swarm Optimization(FSCPSO).The proposed FSCPSO algorithm integrates the concepts of chaos theory and fitness sharing that effectively balance both global exploration and local *** balance enables the use of a wide range of solutions that leads to minimal total cost and makespan,in comparison to other traditional optimization *** FSCPSO algorithm’s performance is analyzed using six evaluation measures namely,Load Balancing Level(LBL),Average Resource Utilization(ARU),total cost,makespan,energy consumption,and response *** relation to the conventional optimization algorithms,the FSCPSO algorithm achieves a higher LBL of 39.12%,ARU of 58.15%,a minimal total cost of 1175,and a makespan of 85.87 ms,particularly when evaluated for 50 tasks.

Researchers have recently created several deep learning strategies for various tasks, and facial recognition has made remarkable progress in employing these techniques. Face recognition is a noncontact, nonobligatory, acceptable, and harmonious biometric recognition method with a promising national and social security future. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing face recognition algorithm, investigate extensive data-driven face recognition methods, and propose a unique automated face recognition methodology based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) and the center symmetric multivariable local binary pattern (CS-MLBP). To begin, this paper employs the center symmetric multivariant local binary pattern (CS-MLBP) algorithm to extract the texture features of the face, addressing the issue that C2DPCA (column-based two-dimensional principle component analysis) does an excellent job of removing the global characteristics of the face but struggles to process the local features of the face under large samples. The extracted texture features are combined with the international features retrieved using C2DPCA to generate a multifeatured face. The proposed method, GAN-CS-MLBP, syndicates the power of GAN with the robustness of CS-MLBP, resulting in an accurate and efficient face recognition system. Deep learning algorithms, mainly neural networks, automatically extract discriminative properties from facial images. The learned features capture low-level information and high-level meanings, permitting the model to distinguish among dissimilar persons more successfully. To assess the proposed technique’s GAN-CS-MLBP performance, extensive experiments are performed on benchmark face recognition datasets such as LFW, YTF, and CASIA-WebFace. Giving to the findings, our method exceeds state-of-the-art facial recognition systems in terms of recognition accuracy and resilience. Physical information-enhanced graph neural network for predicting phase separation

Although phase separation is a ubiquitous phenomenon, the interactions between multiple components make it difficult to accurately model and predict. In recent years, machine learning has been widely used in physics simulations. Here,we present a physical information-enhanced graph neural network(PIENet) to simulate and predict the evolution of phase separation. The accuracy of our model in predicting particle positions is improved by 40.3% and 51.77% compared with CNN and SVM respectively. Moreover, we design an order parameter based on local density to measure the evolution of phase separation and analyze the systematic changes with different repulsion coefficients and different Schmidt *** results demonstrate that our model can achieve long-term accurate predictions of order parameters without requiring complex handcrafted features. These results prove that graph neural networks can become new tools and methods for predicting the structure and properties of complex physical systems.
