In the realm of e-commerce customer support, the adoption of chatbots is on the rise, driven by a quest for heightened user interactions. This study introduces an inventive approach harnessing the advanced capabilities of GPT-4 to construct chatbot interfaces that are both context-aware and personalized. The main aim of this work is to revolutionize ecommerce customer support by developing intelligent and adaptable chatbot interfaces that are context-aware, personalized, and significantly enhance user experiences. Existing chatbot models struggle with context retention and personalization, limiting effectiveness in dynamic e-commerce environments despite the promise of automation. This innovative approach leverages GPT-4’s robust language processing, integrating it with user profiling systems for personalized responses grounded in user preferences and historical interactions. The method gives, diverse e-commerce dataset undergoes collection and pre-processing, followed by fine-tuning GPT-4 with an emphasis on context-awareness and personalized responses. The model is seamlessly integrated with e-commerce backend systems for real-time information, multimodal input support caters to varied user preferences. Results exhibit a significant 95% accuracy improvement, affirming the chatbot’s enhanced ability to comprehend user queries. By integrating personalization and advanced context retention, this study enhances user engagement, paving way for revolutionary intelligent and adaptable chatbot interfaces in ecommerce customer support.

Sign language is primarily conveyed through hands and face movements. Therefore, a pivotal challenge in continuous sign language recognition (CSLR) is the meticulous modeling and interpreting of visual cues emanating from hands and facial movements. However, contemporary CSLR methods have exhibited limitations in adequately capturing information from both the hands and facial regions, often overlooking the continuity, and correlations across multiple consecutive frames. To mitigate these shortcomings, we propose the Multi-scale Variable Window Attention Network (MVAN). This framework fuses the strengths of an improved Efficient Multi-scale Attention (iEMA) with Variable Window Adaptation (VWA) attention. Specifically, iEMA first scans information spatially at multiple scales to simultaneously capture information from areas such as hands and faces, and models spatial continuity interactions between them, enhancing spatial features. Secondly, VWA dynamically changes its window size at the temporal level to adaptively capture complex temporal changes in hands and face movements in successive frames. Thus, VWA can effectively model the continuity and correlation between hands and face movements to have the ability to capture sign language movements of different lengths. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that our proposed MVAN strengthens the visual feature extraction of hands and face, improving the recognition performance.

In recent years, various companies have started to shift their data services from traditional data centers to the cloud. One of the major motivations is to save on operational costs with the aid of cloud elasticity. This paper discusses an emerging need from financial services to reduce the incidence of idle servers retaining very few user connections, without disconnecting them from the server side. This paper considers this need as a bi-objective online load balancing problem. A neural network based scalable policy is designed to route user requests to varied numbers of servers for the required elasticity. An evolutionary multi-objective training framework is proposed to optimize the weights of the policy. Not only is the new objective of idleness is reduced by over 130% more than traditional industrial solutions, but the original load balancing objective itself is also slightly improved. Extensive simulations with both synthetic and real-world data help reveal the detailed applicability of the proposed method to the emergent problem of reducing idleness in financial services. Hyperedge prediction using tensor eigenvalue decomposition

Link prediction in graphs is studied by modeling the dyadic interactions among two nodes. The relationships can be more complex than simple dyadic interactions and could require the user to model super-dyadic associations among nodes. Such interactions can be modeled using a hypergraph, which is a generalization of a graph where a hyperedge can connect more than two nodes. In this work, we consider the problem of hyperedge prediction in a k−uniform hypergraph. We utilize the tensor-based representation of hypergraphs and propose a novel interpretation of the tensor eigenvectors. This is further used to propose a hyperedge prediction algorithm. The proposed algorithm utilizes the Fiedler eigenvector computed using tensor eigenvalue decomposition of hypergraph Laplacian. The Fiedler eigenvector is used to evaluate the construction cost of new hyperedges, which is further utilized to determine the most probable hyperedges to be constructed. The functioning and efficacy of the proposed method are illustrated using some example hypergraphs and a few real datasets. Synthetic Instance Segmentation from Semantic Image Segmentation Masks

In recent years, instance segmentation has garnered significant attention across various applications. However, training a fully-supervised instance segmentation model requires costly both instance-level and pixel-level annotations. In contrast, weakly-supervised instance segmentation methods, such as those using image-level class labels or point labels, often struggle to satisfy the accuracy and recall requirements of practical scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel paradigm called Synthetic Instance Segmentation (SISeg). SISeg achieves instance segmentation results by leveraging image masks generated by existing semantic segmentation models, and it is highly efficient as we do not require additional training for semantic segmentation or the use of instance-level image annotations. In other words, the proposed model does not need extra manpower or higher computational expenses. Specifically, we first obtain a semantic segmentation mask of the input image via an existent semantic segmentation model. Then, we calculate a displacement field vector for each pixel based on the segmentation mask, which can indicate representations belonging to the same class but different instances, i.e., obtaining the instance-level object information. Finally, the instance segmentation results are refined by a learnable category-agnostic object boundary branch. Extensive experimental results on two challenging datasets highlight the effectiveness of SISeg in achieving competitive results when compared to state-of-the-art methods, especially fully-supervised methods. Diffusion models are powerful generative models, and this capability can also be applied to discrimination. The inner activations of a pre-trained diffusion model can serve as features for discriminative tasks, namely, diffusion feature. We discover that diffusion feature has been hindered by a hidden yet universal phenomenon that we call content shift. To be specific, there are content differences between features and the input image, such as the exact shape of a certain object. We locate the cause of content shift as one inherent characteristic of diffusion models, which suggests the broad existence of this phenomenon in diffusion feature. Further empirical study also indicates that its negative impact is not negligible even when content shift is not visually perceivable. Hence, we propose to suppress content shift to enhance the overall quality of diffusion features. Specifically, content shift is related to the information drift during the process of recovering an image from the noisy input, pointing out the possibility of turning off-the-shelf generation techniques into tools for content shift suppression. We further propose a practical guideline named GATE to efficiently evaluate the potential benefit of a technique and provide an implementation of our methodology. Despite the simplicity, the proposed approach has achieved superior results on various tasks and datasets, validating its potential as a generic booster for diffusion features. Long-term conditions or chronic diseases are multifaceted and challenging. Current treatment options, for patients with long-term conditions, are mainly pharmacological, causing numerous adverse drug events and pressing for alternative management strategies such as personalized interventions. Areas of machine learning, such as deep learning, would enable researchers to develop predictive modelling algorithms, using continuous monitoring and allowing assessing the medical risk for long-term conditions and their related complications. In this paper, we claim that harmonization of data, novel machine learning algorithms, swarm-based technologies, and the involvement of the entire healthcare community will lead to acceptable and effective personalized healthcare. Our proposed approach aims to amplify the intelligence of the healthcare community. Based upon the patients’ characteristics empowers better decisions, personalised medical risk prediction and recommendations of acceptable and effective interventions. Our future work includes the validation of the SwarmAI framework by actively engaging relevant stakeholders.

From Few to More: Scribble-based Medical Image Segmentation via Masked Context Modeling and Continuous Pseudo Labels

Scribble-based weakly supervised segmentation techniques offer comparable performance to fully supervised methods while significantly reducing annotation costs, making them an appealing alternative. Existing methods often rely on auxiliary tasks to enforce semantic consistency and use hard pseudo labels for supervision. However, these methods often overlook the unique requirements of models trained with sparse annotations. Since the model must predict pixel-wise segmentation maps with limited annotations, the ability to handle varying levels of annotation richness is critical. In this paper, we adopt the principle of ‘from few to more’ and propose MaCo, a weakly supervised framework designed for medical image segmentation. MaCo employs masked context modeling (MCM) and continuous pseudo labels (CPL). MCM uses an attention-based masking strategy to disrupt the input image, compelling the model’s predictions to remain consistent with those of the original image. CPL converts scribble annotations into continuous pixel-wise labels by applying an exponential decay function to distance maps, resulting in continuous maps that represent the confidence of each pixel belonging to a specific category, rather than using hard pseudo labels. We evaluate MaCo against other weakly supervised methods using three public datasets. The results indicate that MaCo outperforms competing methods across all datasets, setting a new record in weakly supervised medical image segmentation. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Historical visualizations are a valuable resource for studying the history of visualization and inspecting the cultural context where they were created. When investigating historical visualizations, it is essential to consider contributions from different cultural frameworks to gain a comprehensive understanding. While there is extensive research on historical visualizations within the European cultural framework, this work shifts the focus to ancient China, a cultural context that remains underexplored by visualization researchers. To this aim, we propose a semi-automatic pipeline to collect, extract, and label historical Chinese visualizations. Through the pipeline, we curate ZuantuSet, a dataset with over 71K visualizations and 108K illustrations. We analyze distinctive design patterns of historical Chinese visualizations and their potential causes within the context of Chinese history and culture. We illustrate potential usage scenarios for this dataset, summarize the unique challenges and solutions associated with collecting historical Chinese visualizations, and outline future research directions. Graph based data dependence identifier for parallelization of programs

Automatic parallelization improves the performance of serial program by automatically converting to parallel program. Automatic parallelization typically works in three phases: check for data dependencies in the input program, perform transformations, and generate the parallel code for target machine. Though automatic parallelization is beneficial, it is not done as a part of compiling process because of the time complexity of the data dependence tests and transformation techniques. data dependencies arise because of data access from memory required for the execution of instructions of the program. In a program, memory is allocated for variables like scalars, arrays and pointers. As of now, different techniques are used to identify data dependencies in scalars, arrays and pointers in a program. In this paper, we propose a graph based data Dependence Identifier (DDI), which is capable of identifying all types of data dependencies that arise in all types of variables, in polynomial time. In our proposed DDI model, for identifying data dependence in a program, we represent a program as graph. Though many graphical representation of program exist, our approach of representing a program as graph takes a different approach. Also using our DDI model, one can perform basic transformations like dead code elimination, constant propagation, and induction variable detection. Copyright © 2021, The Authors.
