With the development of Industry 4.0 and big data technology,the Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT)is hampered by inherent issues such as privacy,security,and fault tolerance,which pose certain challenges to the rapid development of *** technology has immutability,decentralization,and autonomy,which can greatly improve the inherent defects of the *** the traditional blockchain,data is stored in a Merkle *** data continues to grow,the scale of proofs used to validate it grows,threatening the efficiency,security,and reliability of blockchain-based ***,this paper first analyzes the inefficiency of the traditional blockchain structure in verifying the integrity and correctness of *** solve this problem,a new Vector Commitment(VC)structure,Partition Vector Commitment(PVC),is proposed by improving the traditional VC ***,this paper uses PVC instead of the Merkle tree to store big data generated by *** can improve the efficiency of traditional VC in the process of commitment and ***,this paper uses PVC to build a blockchain-based IIoT data security storage mechanism and carries out a comparative analysis of *** mechanism can greatly reduce communication loss and maximize the rational use of storage space,which is of great significance for maintaining the security and stability of blockchain-based IIoT.

Leaving None Behind: Data-Free Domain Incremental Learning for Major Depressive Disorder Detection

While deep learning techniques have shown promising performance in the Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) detection task, they still face limitations in real-world scenarios. Specifically, given the data scarcity, some efforts have resorted to aggregating data from different domains to expand the data volume. However, their effectiveness is currently limited by the domain gap and data privacy. Additionally, the class imbalance issue is particularly severe in our application, leading to biased classifying performance accordingly. To address these challenges, we propose Data-Free Domain Incremental Learning for the MDD detection (DIL-MDD) task, accommodating multiple feature distributions by only accessing well-trained models from previous domains and the data in the current domain. Specifically, DIL-MDD consists of two key modules: Adaptive Class-tailored Threshold Learning (ACTL) and Data-Free Domain Alignment (DFDA). The first module measures the discrepancy between the outputs of two sequential domains, based on which we learn a class-tailored threshold adaptively. Building on this, we differentiate between samples that either exhibit similarities or dissimilarities with the previous domain, where this similar sample set is identified to investigate the feature distribution of the historical data. The second module imposes an alignment constraint to narrow the gap between these two sample sets, thereby exploring the expertise of the previous domain. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we conduct extensive experiments on the public MDD datasets, i.e., DAIC-WOZ, MODMA, and CMDC. We also apply our method to another mental health condition, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), to further demonstrate its applicability. Finally, the ablation studies validate the superiority of the proposed modules. © 2024 IEEE.

Sarcasm in social media postings significantly impacts automated sentiment extraction due to its potential to invert the overall polarity of phrases. It poses a formidable challenge in extracting genuine sentiments from informal multilingual comments about events or individuals, especially when the message is in a multilingual form. The prevalence of noisy datasets further complicates this task. This work proposes a hybrid convolutional neural network (CNN-H) model to classify sarcastic and non-sarcastic statements. Unlike traditional CNN models, CNN-H integrates character and word embeddings, enhancing its capacity to handle the complexities of multilingual content. Evaluation on five benchmark datasets, including English (news headlines, Ghosh Tweet, Riloff Tweet), Hindi, and multilingual Hindi-English (Hinglish), demonstrates the superior performance of CNN-H. The model surpasses various state-of-the-art conventional machine-learning and deep-learning models, including CNN, achieving an impressive F1-score of 93.0% on the multilingual dataset. The incorporation of character and word embeddings proves pivotal in mitigating the impact of noisy datasets, prevalent in social media posts. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

An ensemble approach for classification of diabetic retinopathy in fundus image

Diabetes-oriented diabetic retinopathy impacts the blood vessels in the region of the retina to enlarge and leak blood and other fluids. In most cases, diabetic retinopathy affects both eyes. If left untreated, it would eventually lead to blindness. Diabetic Retinopathy is so widespread that around 93 million adults are affected by it on a worldwide scale. Early identification and treatment would reduce the danger of serious diabetic retinopathy visual impairment. To achieve early detection, we can make use of our advancement in image processing to diagnose how severely the patient is affected by diabetic retinopathy. Using a patient’s fundus image and modern deep learning methods, we will be able to classify the result into five categories of severity: unaffected, severe, mild, moderate, and proliferate. Based on the results, the doctor would be able to determine what type of treatment is required to further avoid vision loss. The strategy outlined in this work is to employ five well-known deep learning models, namely Inception ResNet V2, VGG19, Xception, ResNet50, DenseNet112, and integrate their outcomes successfully utilizing ensemble learning. The experimentation outcome displays that the proposed approach classifies all the classes of Diabetic Retinopathy and performs better compared to other methods with a Specificity of 92.02%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

With the advent of the information age, data storage has not only developed from paper information systems to electronic information system storage, but has also extended to cloud database storage methods. To date, we can see the application of big data and cloud in various fields and levels, making induction, arrangement, transmission, and exchange of data easier and faster. The electronic and systematisation of patient medical records in the medical environment is an example. The use of electronic medical records can help improve the quality of medical care, reduce duplication of treatment, and reduce the waste of examination resources. It has many advantages, but also many risks. Medical institutions may abuse electronic medical data without the consent of patients, leading to the leakage of patient privacy data and causing serious social impact. Therefore, this study proposes a medical record exchange and sharing mechanism based on the Hyperledger blockchain architecture combined with proxy reencryption. When pharmacists need to obtain medical records for related research, patients can decide whether to share medical records, and hospitals can also revoke pharmacist access rights at any time to achieve more private, secure, and convenient sharing of medical records. The proposed scheme meets various blockchain security requirements and the BAN (Burrows–Abadi–Needham) logic proof model (Burrows–Abadi–Needham) is applied to assess the correctness of the proposed scheme. Gaining Technological Autonomy and Social-emotional Support: A Case Study of How and Why Chinese Older Adults Engage with a Semi-acquaintance Online Community

Older adults are often underserved and marginalized in technology engagement due to their reluctance and the barriers they face in adopting and engaging with mainstream technology. However, Pinxiaoquan, a social feature of an e-commerce platform in China, has gained a large number of older users. This work investigates how and why Chinese older adults use Pinxiaoquan, aiming to unveil the underlying logic and inspire technology-inclusive design for older adults. To this end, we conducted a mixed-methods qualitative study over two years, which included online observation, and semi-interview. We found that Pinxiaoquan’s success among Chinese older adults is mainly due to its ability to inspire technological autonomy and provide social-emotional support. Rather than simply lowering technical barriers or asking them to seek assistance outside the platform, Pinxiaoquan builds a semi-acquaintance online community based on location and social ties that allows older adults to realize technical support mutually. Pinxiaoquan also fulfills their social-emotional needs, such as free online expression, memory creation and preservation, relationship expansion and maintenance, and a sense of value. Our research contributes to the HCI community by highlighting the importance of improving older adults’ technology autonomy following their specific social and cultural background and social-emotional needs. This work also provides unique insights and implications for building inclusive technology for the growing aging population. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

MLMO-HSM: Multi-label Multi-output Hybrid Sequential Model for multi-resident smart home activity recognition

Smart home automation is protective and preventive measures that are taken to monitor elderly people in a non-intrusive manner using simple and pervasive sensors termed Ambient Assistive Living. The smart home produces a large volume of sensor activations to predict an elder’s health status to improve the quality of life and independent living. Machine learning techniques are very familiar and popular in recognizing single resident activities using such a sensor reading. However, multi-resident activities are more complex, and no correlation exists between sensor readings and activities. Recently deep learning and graphical models have been proposed to solve this problem, but it consumes more time to train the model. Moreover, models are primarily executed in parallel, or multi-resident activity recognition has been converted to single for classifying events. This paper proposes a Multi-label Multi-output Hybrid Sequential Model (MLMO-HSM), a feature engineering approach with a hybrid sequential model to recognize the multi-resident activities concurrently in the shortest time. Experimentation has been performed with various machine learning, graphical and deep learning models at the different sizes of the ARAS dataset to validate the efficiency of the proposed model in terms of activity recognition and computation time. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

SignBERT+: Hand-Model-Aware Self-Supervised Pre-Training for Sign Language Understanding

Hand gesture serves as a crucial role during the expression of sign language. Current deep learning based methods for sign language understanding (SLU) are prone to over-fitting due to insufficient sign data resource and suffer limited interpretability. In this paper, we propose the first self-supervised pre-trainable SignBERT+ framework with model-aware hand prior incorporated. In our framework, the hand pose is regarded as a visual token, which is derived from an off-the-shelf detector. Each visual token is embedded with gesture state and spatial-temporal position encoding. To take full advantage of current sign data resource, we first perform self-supervised learning to model its statistics. To this end, we design multi-level masked modeling strategies (joint, frame and clip) to mimic common failure detection cases. Jointly with these masked modeling strategies, we incorporate model-aware hand prior to better capture hierarchical context over the sequence. After the pre-training, we carefully design simple yet effective prediction heads for downstream tasks. To validate the effectiveness of our framework, we perform extensive experiments on three main SLU tasks, involving isolated and continuous sign language recognition (SLR), and sign language translation (SLT). Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, achieving new state-of-the-art performance with a notable gain. © 1979-2012 IEEE.

WSO-KELM: War Strategy Optimization-Based Kernel Extreme Learning Machine for Automatic Software Fault Prediction Model

The software development projects’ testing part is usually expensive and complex, but it is essential to gauge the effectiveness of the developed software. Software Fault Prediction (SFP) primarily serves to detect faults within software components. The scale of software projects is getting larger, making it impossible and time-consuming to analyze the flaws manually. Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques are mainly incorporated to solve this problem. The massive data retrieved from the software repositories helps in identifying the features that are highly correlated with fault prediction and the features that are not. This paper introduces a Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM) for SFP. To optimize the hyperparameters of the classifier and also enhance the classification accuracy, the War Strategy Optimization (WSO) algorithm is employed here. The experimental evaluations are conducted using different baseline actual-world datasets of software programs such as Java-coded open-source and PROMISE datasets. The experimental outcomes are conducted using different performance metrics that include sensitivity, Accuracy, and F1-score with values of 0.96%, 0.97%, and 0.96%, respectively. The results show that KELM is beneficial, and the optimization provided by the WSO algorithm also helps us obtain higher classification accuracy for the SFP problem and improve the fault detection process. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.
