DeepGAN: Utilizing generative adversarial networks for improved deep learning

In the realm of deep learning, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have emerged as a topic of significant interest for their potential to enhance model performance and enable effective data augmentation. This paper addresses the existing challenges in synthesizing high-quality data and harnessing the capabilities of GANs for improved deep learning outcomes. Unlike traditional approaches that heavily rely on manually engineered data augmentation techniques, our work introduces a novel framework that leverages DeepGANs to autonomously generate diverse and high-fidelity data. Our experiments encompass a diverse spectrum of datasets, including images, text, and time series data. In the context of image classification tasks, we conduct experiments on the widely recognized CIFAR-10 dataset, which consists of 50,000 image samples. Our results demonstrate the remarkable efficacy of DeepGANs in enhancing model performance across various data domains. Notably, in image classification using the CIFAR-10 dataset, our innovative approach achieves an impressive accuracy of 97.2%. This represents a substantial advancement beyond conventional CNN models, underscoring the profound impact of DeepGANs in the realm of deep learning. In summary, this research sheds light on DeepGANs as a fundamental component in the pursuit of enhanced deep learning performance. Our framework not only overcomes existing limitations but also heralds a new era of data augmentation, with generative adversarial networks leading the way. The attainment of an accuracy rate of 97.2% on CIFAR-10 serves as a compelling testament to the transformative potential of DeepGANs, solidifying their pivotal role in the future of deep learning. This promises the development of more robust, adaptive, and accurate models across a myriad of applications, marking a significant contribution to the field. © 2024 – IOS Press. All rights reserved.

Efficient and lightweight CNN model for COVID-19 diagnosis from CT and X-ray images using customized pruning and quantization techniques

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has posed significant challenges globally, with image classification becoming a critical tool for detecting COVID-19 from chest X-ray and CT images. Convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures are widely employed for this purpose, yet many previous models have struggled to balance high accuracy with low storage requirements, limiting their applicability in resource-constrained environments. This paper introduces an efficient and lightweight CNN model optimized for COVID-19 diagnosis through pruning and quantization techniques, addressing these limitations. Our approach significantly reduces storage size and parameter count while maintaining high accuracy. We customized several CNNs, particularly EfficientNetV2 and MobileNetV2, to achieve these goals. We specifically selected EfficientNetV2 and MobileNetV2 due to their superior balance of accuracy and efficiency, making them well-suited for lightweight medical applications. EfficientNetV2’s storage size has been reduced from 568 to 142 KB through customized pruning, achieving 98.9% accuracy for 2-class and 98.28% for 3-class X-ray classification, as well as 98.3% and 98.05% for 2-class and 3-class CT classification, respectively. MobileNetV2, after hybrid pruning and quantization, achieved a remarkably low storage size of 70 KB, making it highly effective for deployment in environments with limited resources. Despite a slight accuracy decrease of 0.9 to 1.58%, both models have maintained robust performance suitable for COVID-19 diagnosis. The results demonstrate that our pruning and quantization techniques are effective in developing lightweight, high-performance CNN models, making them suitable for broader applications in medical imaging where both efficiency and accuracy are critical. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Exploring Unbiased Activation Maps for Weakly Supervised Tissue Segmentation of Histopathological Images

Tissue segmentation in histopathological images plays a crucial role in computational pathology, owing to its significant potential to indicate the prognosis of cancer patients. Presently, numerous Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation (WSSS) methods strive to utilize image-level labels to achieve pixel-level segmentation, aiming to minimize the need for detailed annotations. Most of these methods rely on Class Activation Maps (CAM) extracted from classification models, frequently leading to poor coverage of objects. The major cause is attributed to the strong inductive bias of the classification model, focusing primarily on discriminative feature of objects, rather than non-discriminative features. Inspired by this, we propose a simple yet effective method that introduces a self-supervised task by exploiting both the discriminative and non-discriminative features, and generate Unbiased Activation Maps (UAM) to encompass the whole object. Specifically, our method entails clustering all spatial features of an object class to derive semantic centers. Each center then works as a spatial filter that amplifies similar feature and suppresses dissimilar feature, and extract high-quality pseudo-labels (some noise at object boundaries). Moreover, we further propose a Noise-Reduced (NR) Learning method to train the segmentation network towards credible signals and lessen the impact of false predictions. Comprehensive experimental results on two public histopathology image datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our method over the state-of-the-art weakly supervised segmentation methods. © 2025 IEEE. Using DTL-MD with GANs and ResNet for Malicious Code Detection

This study proposes a malicious code detection model DTL-MD based on deep transfer learning, which aims to improve the detection accuracy of existing methods in complex malicious code and data scarcity. In the feature extraction process, the weighted sum method of GIST and LBP features is used to combine the advantages of the two features. Online transfer learning is used to reduce the data distribution difference between the target domain and the source domain. The model uses ResNet50V2 as the backbone network and combines SimAM to enhance the feature extraction and representation capabilities. In addition, in order to further improve the robustness of detection, GAN is used to generate malicious code variants and expand the training data set. In the experiment, the public CICIDS 2017 data set is used for model training and testing. The performance test results show that when the threshold is 0.7, the accuracy of DTL-MD is 95.8% and the F1 score is 0.93. In a performance test involving 30,000 samples, the throughput of the DTL-MD model under Trojans, viruses, worms, and adware is 11, 12, 11, and 12 tasks/s, respectively, and the inference time is 211, 225, 239, and 234 samples/s, respectively. Compared with GAN, DTL-MD increases the throughput by about 10% and the inference speed by about 15%. The research aims to provide new ideas for improving the intelligence and automation level of malicious code detection technology, which has certain application value and practical significance. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. Lower back pain is one of the most common medical problems in the world and it is experienced by a huge percentage of people *** to its ability to produce a detailed view of the soft tissues,including the spinal cord,nerves,intervertebral discs,and vertebrae,Magnetic Resonance Imaging is thought to be the most effective method for imaging the *** semantic segmentation of vertebrae plays a major role in the diagnostic process of lumbar *** is difficult to semantically partition the vertebrae in Magnetic Resonance Images from the surrounding variety of tissues,including muscles,ligaments,and intervertebral discs.U-Net is a powerful deep-learning architecture to handle the challenges of medical image analysis tasks and achieves high segmentation *** work proposes a modified U-Net architecture namely MU-Net,consisting of the Meijering convolutional layer that incorporates the Meijering filter to perform the semantic segmentation of lumbar vertebrae L1 to L5 and sacral vertebra ***-colour mask images were generated and used as ground truth for training the *** work has been carried out on 1312 images expanded from T1-weighted mid-sagittal MRI images of 515 patients in the Lumbar Spine MRI Dataset publicly available from Mendeley *** proposed MU-Net model for the semantic segmentation of the lumbar vertebrae gives better performance with 98.79%of pixel accuracy(PA),98.66%of dice similarity coefficient(DSC),97.36%of Jaccard coefficient,and 92.55%mean Intersection over Union(mean IoU)metrics using the mentioned dataset.

Human Hand Gesture Classification Based on Surface Electromyography Signals by Using a Vector–Kernel Convolutional Takagi–Sugeno–Kang Neuro-fuzzy Classifier

Muscle–computer interfaces are devices that can identify the meaning of human bioelectrical signals, such as surface electromyography (sEMG) signals. sEMG signals can be obtained from arm-worn sensors and can be used to classify human gestures. In this paper, we propose a vector–kernel convolutional Takagi–Sugeno–Kang (TSK)-type neuro-fuzzy classifier (VK-CTNFC) to recognize human gestures represented by sEMG signals. First, vector–kernel convolution is used to extract the features of sEMG signals;this modification reduces the model parameters by half and increases the classification accuracy compared with those achieved with a conventional convolutional kernel. Second, the global average pooling method is used instead of the flattening method to improve feature fusion performance. Finally, a TSK-type neuro-fuzzy network is used for gesture classification. The publicly available dataset Ninapro DB1 was used in experiments for verifying the performance of the proposed VK-CTNFC. Data preprocessing was performed by wavelet denoising to smooth the sEMG waveform, and fast Fourier transform was used to convert time-domain sEMG signals into frequency-domain signals. Finally, the processed sEMG signals were input into the VK-CTNFC for training. The experimental results indicate that the proposed VK-CTNFC has an average accuracy of 87.18% and outperforms other reported methods. © MYU K.K.

This systematic review gave special attention to diabetes and the advancements in food and nutrition needed to prevent or manage diabetes in all its forms. There are two main forms of diabetes mellitus: Type 1 (T1D) and Type 2 (T2D). The loss of beta cells brought on by an autoimmune reaction causes the pancreas to be unable to produce enough insulin, which leads to Type 1 diabetes. A deficiency of insulin could arise as the illness worsens. The most frequent cause is a combination of excessive body weight and inadequate exercise. Currently, 90–95% of patients have Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Age-specific normal blood sugar ranges exist and knowing them is crucial for determining a target blood sugar level that is both healthy and appropriate. The main takeaway is that diet regimens ought to be tailored to the patient’s requirements and should account for their capacity for change. Carbohydrates are the nutrients that have the biggest impact on the rise in blood glucose. In this paper, we have proposed a novel method for glucose monitoring and diet recommendations for diabetic patients using fog computing. A paradigm known as fog computing makes use of the benefits that come from using both cloud and edge devices to support modern computing systems by offering high-quality services, cutting latency, facilitating mobility, supporting multi-tenancy, and many other features. © 2025 by Begell House, Inc.
