Advancements in neuromorphic computing have given an impetus to the development of systems with adaptive behavior,dynamic responses,and energy efficiency *** charge-based or emerging memory technologies such as memristors have been developed to emulate synaptic plasticity,replicating the key functionality of neurons—integrating diverse presynaptic inputs to fire electrical impulses—has remained *** this study,we developed reconfigurable metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors(MOSCaps)based on hafnium diselenide(HfSe2).The proposed devices exhibit(1)optoelectronic synaptic features and perform separate stimulus-associated learning,indicating considerable adaptive neuron emulation,(2)dual light-enabled charge-trapping and memcapacitive behavior within the same MOSCap device,whose threshold voltage and capacitance vary based on the light intensity across the visible spectrum,(3)memcapacitor volatility tuning based on the biasing conditions,enabling the transition from volatile light sensing to non-volatile optical data *** reconfigurability and multifunctionality of MOSCap were used to integrate the device into a leaky integrate-and-fire neuron model within a spiking neural network to dynamically adjust firing patterns based on light stimuli and detect exoplanets through variations in light intensity.

This multi-center randomized controlled trial explores the therapeutic benefits of Indian classical music, specifically “Raga Therapy,” for managing diabetes, thyroid disorders, and hypertension—prevalent global health issues. The study examines how specific Ragas can enhance traditional treatments: Bhimpalas and Chhanayat for hypertension, Malkauns and Bhupal Todi for diabetes, and Shyam Kalyan and Yaman for thyroid disorders. Results show significant health improvements in patients integrating Raga Therapy into their care, highlighting its holistic benefits. The study underscores the profound connection between music and healing, positioning Indian classical music as a valuable complementary therapy. By addressing a critical gap in the literature, it advocates for further research to understand the mechanisms involved and refine Raga selection for optimal therapeutic outcomes. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Knowledge Probabilization in Ensemble Distillation: Improving Accuracy and Uncertainty Quantification for Object Detectors

Ensemble object detectors have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in enhancing prediction accuracy and uncertainty quantification. However, their widespread adoption is hindered by significant computational and storage demands, limiting their feasibility in resource-constrained settings. To overcome this, researchers have focused on distilling the knowledge from ensemble object detectors into a single model. In this article, we introduce probabilization based ensemble distillation (ProbED), an innovative ensemble distillation framework that consolidates knowledge from multiple object detectors into a single, resource-efficient model. Unlike traditional ensemble distillation methods that average the outputs of subteachers, ProbED captures comprehensive outcome distributions from all subteachers, providing a more nuanced approach to knowledge transfer. ProbED employs knowledge probabilization to achieve a sophisticated and refined aggregation of teacher knowledge, including feature knowledge, semantic knowledge, and localization knowledge, resulting in dual improvements in prediction accuracy and uncertainty quantification for the student model. In particular, ProED's novel knowledge probabilization-based approach to aggregating teacher knowledge is inspired by our empirical observations, which demonstrate that knowledge probabilization excels in effectively representing uncertainty, improving prediction, and facilitating robust knowledge transfer. Furthermore, we introduce a random smoothing perturbation technique to modify inputs within ProbED, further enhancing the distillation process. Extensive experiments highlight ProbED's ability to significantly enhance the prediction accuracy and uncertainty quantification of various object detectors, demonstrating its superior performance compared to other state-of-the-art techniques. © 2024 IEEE.

Decomposition-based hybrid methods employing statistical, machine learning, and deep learning models for crude oil price forecasting

Crude oil prices (COP) profoundly influence global economic stability, with fluctuations reverberating across various sectors. Accurate forecasting of COP is indispensable for governments, policymakers, and stakeholders to make well-informed decisions and effectively mitigate risks. The decomposition-based hybrid models have been showing promising COP forecasting accuracy than other time series forecasting methods. Despite this fact, no systematic study has been conducted to evaluate the true potential of different decomposition-based hybrid methods employing different forecasting models to forecast the COP. Therefore, a hybrid modeling framework is developed by combining efficient decomposition techniques, namely empirical mode decomposition (EMD), ensemble EMD (EEMD), complete EEMD with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN), and variational mode decomposition (VMD) with seven statistical models, fourteen machine learning (ML) models, and six deep learning (DL) models. Further, a systematic study is conducted on the resulting decomposition-based hybrid models to find the best hybrid model for COP forecasting. Three distinct train-test data splits are employed to ensure a reliable evaluation of the models using four performance metrics. Extensive statistical analysis is conducted to identify the optimal combination of the decomposition technique and forecasting model for precise COP prediction. The results demonstrate that the proposed decomposition-based hybrid model employing VMD and Huber Regression is statistically the best method among all alternatives to forecast monthly COP. The proposed hybrid method VMD-Huber Regression improves the root mean square error (RMSE) by 21% than CEEMDAN-ARIMA, 58.31% than EEMD-Theta, 13.18% than EMD-Random Walk, and 49.44% than VMD-TBATS hybrid methods in 60–40 Train-Test split ratio. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Breast cancer is a prevalent tumor across women and is associated with a high mortality rate. Prompt diagnosis is one of the biggest challenges that needs to be addressed globally, as it can considerably improve survival rates. An automatic diagnosis system based on deep learning models is critical for improving detection, prediction accuracy, and survivability. This study used various DenseNet-based architectures for multi-class classification using the BUSI dataset. The experiments indicate that the fine-tuned DenseNet201 model outperforms with an accuracy of 98.28%. The results demonstrate the promising capability of the fine-tuned DenseNet201 model to have a high potential for further implementation in practice for achieving early diagnosis and highly individualized approaches for better treatment. The further development of extensive and diverse data sets will be essential for developing new diagnostic methods and improving the existing ones. © 2025 IEEE.

Global optimization problems are often addressed using the practical and efficient approach of evolutionary sophistication, which refers to advanced processes inspired by various systems, particularly those rooted in biological systems. However, these problems, like the original evolutionary systems that inspired them, become increasingly complex, particularly in terms of efficiency, scalability, and achieving a balance between exploitation and exploration. To address these challenges, this research introduces the Lagrange elementary optimization (LEO) algorithm, an evolutionary method that is self-adaptive and inspired by the exceptional accuracy of vaccinations, modeled using the albumin quotient of human blood. They develop intelligent agents using their fitness function value after gene crossing. These genes direct the search agents during both exploration and exploitation. The main objective of the LEO algorithm is presented in this paper along with the inspiration and motivation for the concept. To demonstrate its precision, the proposed algorithm is validated against a variety of test functions, including 19 traditional benchmark functions and the CEC-C06 2019 test functions. The results of LEO for 19 classic benchmark test functions are evaluated against DA, PSO, and GA separately, and then two other recent algorithms such as FDO and LPB are also included in the evaluation. In addition, the LEO is tested by ten functions on CEC-C06 2019 with DA, WOA, SSA, FDO, LPB, and FOX algorithms distinctly. The cumulative outcomes demonstrate LEO’s capacity to increase the starting population and move toward the global optimum. Different standard measurements are used to verify and prove the stability of LEO in both the exploration and exploitation phases. Moreover, Statistical analysis supports the findings results of the proposed research. Optimizing therapy and rehabilitation for Parkinson's disease (PD) requires early identification and precise evaluation of the illness's course. However, there is disagreement about the best way to use gait analysis to categorize the severity of motor symptoms and identify early-stage Parkinson's disease. The precision of machine learning (ML) models in identifying early and intermediate stages of Parkinson's disease was assessed in this study. Six ML models are used in this study for the prediction of PD. Different metrics are used to evaluate ML models such as accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, and AUC score. Then we propose a multi-criteria decision-making methodology (MCDM) to evaluate the ML models and select the best one. Two MCDM methods are used such as CRITIC method to compute the criteria weights and the TOPSIS method to rank the alternatives. These methods are used under the bipolar neutrosophic sets (BNSs) to deal with uncertainty information. The results show the support vector machine is the best ML model for the prediction of PD. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

Monitoring COVID-19 environment: a real-time facial mask detection using YOLO models

Purpose: The rapid spread of COVID-19 has resulted in significant harm and impacted tens of millions of people globally. In order to prevent the transmission of the virus, individuals often wear masks as a protective measure for themselves and others. Coronavirus protection guidelines have been published by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO standards, COVID-19 can be prevented by wearing a mask in public places and congested regions. In these places, it is very difficult to personally check to see if people are wearing face masks or not. Methods: The objective of this research work is to build a powerful, efficient, and real-time approach for detecting people not wearing masks. Three cutting-edge object identification models, namely YOLOv4, Tiny-YOLOv4, and YOLOv5, are employed in this study for the identification of masked faces. Result: The proposed YOLOv5 model is evaluated using real-time images captured using a smartphone or tablet. The test images include both single and multiple people with and without masks. The YOLOv5 model achieved recognition accuracy of 88.90% with an average detection speed of 0.0316 s per image, whereas the YOLOv4 and Tiny-YOLOv4 produced recognition accuracy of 82.24% and 74.80% with an average detection speed of 0.0530 s and 0.0541 s per image, respectively. Conclusion: The comparative performance suggests that the YOLOv5 model has a maximum recognition accuracy of 88.90% in face mask identification tasks compared to other models such as the YOLOv4 and Tiny-YOLOv4. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Brazilian Society of Biomedical engineering 2025.
