Existing works in event extraction typically extract event arguments within the sentence scope. However, besides the sentence level, events may also be naturally presented at the document level. A document-level event usually reflects, to some extent, the theme (i.e., the main content) of the document (e.g., electronic medical records and news articles), which is thus referred to as the thematic event. Thematic Event Extraction (TEE) aims to extract the arguments of thematic events. TEE faces a major challenge, i.e., the sparsity and dispersion of arguments, which means that the arguments of a thematic event are dispersed in different sentences of the document. To overcome this challenge, we propose an Event-related Sentence Detection based TEE model, called ESDTEE, which first detects the sentences related to the thematic event and then extracts the arguments only within these detected sentences using existing models. Extensive experiments with comprehensive analyses demonstrate the effectiveness of ESDTEE.

Data breach is a serious issue as it leaks the personal information of more than billions of users and their privacy is compromised. More than 77% of organizations do not have a Cyber Security Incident Response plan. So, it is necessary to be informed of network security and ways to store and generate secured passwords. Having different and random passwords for ones digital accounts can exponentially increase the security of user’s data. The goal of this project is to build a password manager which can securely store and encrypt passwords and other data. The multifactor authentication will provide increased security to validate the user into password management system. Multifactor authentication system includes physical security key and graphical password authentication.

Cancer that originates in the breast tissue then spreads to the chest wall is called breast cancer. Doctors routinely examine mammograms for signs of cancer;however, aberrant macrocalcifications and microcalcifications might appear on mammograms when the picture quality is subpar. Always get checked out if you see anything out of the ordinary, especially if it involves your breasts, such abnormal calcium deposits. For this mammographic deposit to be properly interpreted, top-notch picture quality is necessary. Many different breast cancer screening methods and the many breast cancer phases are still the subject of active study. In order to construct effective medical image processing systems, experts use methods including the Ant Colony Algorithm (ACA), the Improved Adaptive Fuzzy C-Means (IAFCM), and TNM (the size of the breast tumor (T), the lymph nodes around the tumor, and metastasized). Classes were determined using an MPIG, or a modified Poisson inverse gradient classifier. More than five hundred picture modalities are used across all methods. Medical professionals that rely on images to establish diagnoses or treatments might find the results of this research useful. © 2022 IEEE.

CINFormer: Transformer network with multi-stage CNN feature injection for surface defect segmentation

Surface defect inspection is of great importance for industrial manufacture and production. Though defect inspection methods based on deep learning have made significant progress, there are still some challenges for these methods, such as indistinguishable weak defects and defect-like interference in the background. To address these issues, we propose a transformer network with multi-stage CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) feature injection for surface defect segmentation, which is a UNet-like structure named CINFormer. CINFormer presents a simple yet effective feature integration mechanism that injects the multilevel CNN features of the input image into different stages of the transformer network in the encoder. This can maintain the merit of CNN capturing detailed features and that of transformer depressing noises in the background, which facilitates accurate defect detection. In addition, CINFormer presents a Top-K self-attention module to focus on tokens with more important information about the defects, so as to further reduce the impact of the redundant background. Extensive experiments conducted on the surface defect datasets DAGM 2007, Magnetic tile, and NEU show that the proposed CINFormer achieves state-of-the-art performance in defect detection. Many real-world optimization problems exhibit dynamic characteristics, posing significant challenges for traditional optimization techniques. Evolutionary Dynamic Optimization Algorithms (EDOAs) are designed to address these challenges effectively. However, in existing literature, the reported results for a given EDOA can vary significantly. This inconsistency often arises because the source codes for many EDOAs, which are typically complex, have not been made publicly available, leading to error-prone re-implementations. To support researchers in conducting experiments and comparing their algorithms with various EDOAs, we have developed an open-source MATLAB platform called the Evolutionary Dynamic Optimization LABoratory (EDOLAB). This platform not only facilitates research but also includes an educational module designed for instructional purposes. The education module allows users to observe: a) a 2-dimensional problem space and its morphological changes following each environmental change, b) the behaviors of individuals over time, and c) how the EDOA responds to environmental changes and tracks the moving optimum. The current version of EDOLAB features 25 EDOAs and four fully parametric benchmark generators. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

This study compares the effectiveness of various Generative Adversarial Network architectures, including WGAN and WGAN-GP, in data clustering using the Iris dataset. Performance was evaluated with metrics such as Silhouette Score, Davies-Bouldin Index, Adjusted Rand Index, and Mutual Information. WGANs demonstrated the best clustering performance, while GANs showed promising results but were outperformed by WGAN. Contrary to expectations, WGAN-GP performed the worst. The research underscores the potential of GANs in clustering and highlights the need for further optimization based on specific datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has become a critical technology to accelerate the process of digital and intelligent transformation of industries. As the cooperative relationship between smart devices in IIoT becomes more complex, getting deterministic responses of IIoT periodic time-critical computing tasks becomes a crucial and nontrivial problem. However, few current works in cloud/edge/fog computing focus on this problem. This paper is a pioneer to explore the deterministic scheduling and network structural optimization problems for IIoT periodic time-critical computing tasks. We first formulate the two problems and derive theorems to help quickly identify computation and network resource sharing conflicts. Based on this, we propose a deterministic scheduling algorithm, IIoTBroker, which realizes deterministic response for each IIoT task by optimizing the fine-grained computation and network resources allocations, and a network optimization algorithm, IIoTDeployer, providing a cost-effective structural upgrade solution for existing IIoT networks. Our methods are illustrated to be cost-friendly, scalable, and deterministic response guaranteed with low computation cost from our simulation results. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Explainability has become an essential requirement for safe and effective collaborative Human-AI environments, especially when generating recommendations through black-box modality. One goal of eXplainable AI (XAI) is to help humans calibrate their trust while working with intelligent systems, i.e., avoid situations where human decision-makers over-trust the AI when it is incorrect, or under-trust the AI when it is correct. XAI, in this context, aims to help humans understand AI reasoning and decide whether to follow or reject its recommendations. However, recent studies showed that users, on average, continue to overtrust (or under-trust) AI recommendations which is an indication of XAI's failure to support trust calibration. Such a failure to aid trust calibration was due to the assumption that XAI users would cognitively engage with explanations and interpret them without bias. In this work, we hypothesize that XAI interaction design can play a role in helping users' cognitive engagement with XAI and consequently enhance trust calibration. To this end, we propose friction as a Nudge-based approach to help XAI users to calibrate their trust in AI and present the results of a preliminary study of its potential in fulfilling that role. © 2021 IEEE

Breast cancer is one of the most common causes of death among women, and early diagnosis is vital for reducing the fatality rate. This study evaluates the most widely used machine-learning breast cancer prediction and diagnosis methods. We use synthetic minority over-sampling to handle imbalanced data in the breast cancer diagnosis dataset obtained from the Wisconsin Machine Learning Repository. We use a variety of machine learning algorithms, including Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbours (KNN), Classification and Regression Tree (CART), Naive Bayes (NB), and well-known ensembles methods like Majority-Voting, eXtreme Gradient Boosting algorithm (XGBoost), and Random Forest (RF) for the breast cancer classification. The findings show that the Majority-Voting ensemble method, built on the top three classifiers (LR, SVM, and CART), outperforms all other individual classifiers and offers the highest accuracy of 99.3%. © 2023 The Author(s)

COVID-19 is a contagious infection that has severe effects on the global economy and our daily *** diagnosis of COVID-19 is of importance for consultants,patients,and *** this study,we use the deep learning network AlexNet as the backbone,and enhance it with the following two aspects:1)adding batch normalization to help accelerate the training,reducing the internal covariance shift;2)replacing the fully connected layer in AlexNet with three classifiers:SNN,ELM,and ***,we have three novel models from the deep COVID network(DC-Net)framework,which are named DC-Net-S,DC-Net-E,and DC-Net-R,*** comparison,we find the proposed DC-Net-R achieves an average accuracy of 90.91%on a private dataset(available upon email request)comprising of 296 images while the specificity reaches 96.13%,and has the best performance among all three proposed *** addition,we show that our DC-Net-R also performs much better than other existing algorithms in the literature.
