Efficient energy management is a cornerstone of advancing cognitive cities,where AI,IoT,and cloud computing seamlessly integrate to meet escalating global energy *** this context,the ability to forecast electricity consumption with precision is vital,particularly in residential settings where usage patterns are highly variable and *** study presents an innovative approach to energy consumption forecasting using a bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)*** a dataset containing over twomillionmultivariate,time-series observations collected froma single household over nearly four years,ourmodel addresses the limitations of traditional time-series forecasting methods,which often struggle with temporal dependencies and non-linear *** bidirectional LSTM architecture processes data in both forward and backward directions,capturing past and future contexts at each time step,whereas existing unidirectional LSTMs consider only a single temporal *** design,combined with dropout regularization,leads to a 20.6%reduction in RMSE and an 18.8%improvement in MAE over conventional unidirectional LSTMs,demonstrating a substantial enhancement in prediction accuracy and *** to existing models—including SVM,Random Forest,MLP,ANN,and CNN—the proposed model achieves the lowest MAE of 0.0831 and RMSE of 0.2213 during testing,significantly outperforming these *** results highlight the model’s superior ability to navigate the complexities of energy usage patterns,reinforcing its potential application in AI-driven IoT and cloud-enabled energy management systems for cognitive *** integrating advanced machine learning techniqueswith IoT and cloud infrastructure,this research contributes to the development of intelligent,sustainable urban environments.

Innovative Approaches to Task Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environments Using an Advanced Willow Catkin Optimization Algorithm

The widespread adoption of cloud computing has underscored the critical importance of efficient resource allocation and management, particularly in task scheduling, which involves assigning tasks to computing resources for optimized resource utilization. Several meta-heuristic algorithms have shown effectiveness in task scheduling, among which the relatively recent Willow Catkin Optimization (WCO) algorithm has demonstrated potential, albeit with apparent needs for enhanced global search capability and convergence speed. To address these limitations of WCO in cloud computing task scheduling, this paper introduces an improved version termed the Advanced Willow Catkin Optimization (AWCO) algorithm. AWCO enhances the algorithm’s performance by augmenting its global search capability through a quasi-opposition-based learning strategy and accelerating its convergence speed via sinusoidal mapping. A comprehensive evaluation utilizing the CEC2014 benchmark suite, comprising 30 test functions, demonstrates that AWCO achieves superior optimization outcomes, surpassing conventional WCO and a range of established meta-heuristics. The proposed algorithm also considers trade-offs among the cost, makespan, and load balancing objectives. Experimental results of AWCO are compared with those obtained using the other meta-heuristics, illustrating that the proposed algorithm provides superior performance in task scheduling. The method offers a robust foundation for enhancing the utilization of cloud computing resources in the domain of task scheduling within a cloud computing environment.

With the rapid development of intelligent transportation systems and growing emphasis on driver safety, real-time detection of driver drowsiness has become a critical area of research. This study presents a robust and scalable driver drowsiness detection framework that integrates a Swin Transformer-based deep learning model with a diffusion model for image denoising. While conventional convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are effective in standard vision tasks, they often suffer performance degradation in real-world driving scenarios due to noise, poor lighting, motion blur, and adversarial attacks. To address these challenges, the proposed model focuses on eye-state detection, specifically, prolonged eye closure, as a primary indicator of driver disengagement and fatigue. Our system introduces a novel preprocessing stage using a denoising diffusion model built on a U-Net encoder-decoder architecture, effectively mitigating the impact of Gaussian noise and adversarial perturbations. Additionally, we incorporate adversarial training with Fast Gradient Sign Method (FGSM) and Projected Gradient Descent (PGD) attacks, demonstrating significant improvements in classification accuracy and resilience. Evaluations are conducted on two benchmark datasets, Eye-Blink and Closed Eyes in the Wild (CEW), under both clean and noisy conditions. Comparative experiments show that the proposed system outperforms several state-of-the-art models, including ViT, ResNet50V2, InceptionV3, MobileNet, DenseNet169, and VGG19, in terms of accuracy (up to 99.82%), PSNR (up to 41.61 dB), and SSIM (up to 0.984), while maintaining competitive inference times suitable for practical deployment. Moreover, a detailed sensitivity analysis of data augmentation strategies reveals that techniques such as rotation and horizontal flip substantially enhance the model’s generalization across variable visual inputs. Traffic congestion poses significant challenges to modern cities, leading to increased energy use, pollution, and long commute times. Optimizing public transit systems and encouraging their use is an effective solution. However, public transit integrates various modes like subways, buses, and shared bikes, requiring transfers between modes. Therefore, understanding the relationships between modes and accurately predicting passenger flows for each mode is crucial. Accurate predictions enable better capacity allocation, scheduling, and seamless transfers between modes, enhancing accessibility and convenience to attract more riders. Existing multi-modal prediction methods typically focus on station-to-region or region-to-region flows, overlooking station-to-station predictions that can better capture inter-modal relationships and provide fine-grained insights for traffic management. This study proposes a multi-modal framework for MRT and YouBike data that employs a spatial-temporal module to effectively model the spatiotemporal dependencies in the data. Federated learning (FL) has emerged as a leading approach for decentralized model training, preserving data privacy by exchanging only model parameters. However, recent studies have exposed vulnerabilities, revealing that attackers can reconstruct private data from shared model parameters, compromising user privacy. To address this, various defense methods have been proposed, with gradient perturbation being a lightweight yet effective strategy. However, it often incurs a trade-off with model performance. In this paper, we introduce a lightweight defense mechanism tailored for Federated Stochastic Gradient Descent (FedSGD). Our method leverages maximum gradient values to gauge noise scale, while also preserving and compensating for previous noise iterations to mitigate performance impacts. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The primary objective of this research is to develop and promote efficient and secure de-identification technology to address the application of sensitive personal information in healthcare big data. Considering the outstanding performance of large language models (such as GPT) in understanding text, we aim to utilize these advanced models to process medical records. Compared to traditional methods such as manual processing, rule-based, or machine learning methods, large language models can more effectively de-identify unstructured medical record data. We can enhance the recognition and de-identification accuracy of personal identification information in medical records through deep learning techniques. Additionally, the contextual understanding capabilities of large language models can comprehensively process medical record data, ensuring that the de-identification process does not affect the integrity and availability of medical information. Therefore, the research methodology will include model training, optimization, and validation to ensure that the developed de-identification technology achieves efficient and reliable results in practical applications. We explore different large language models, considering the diversity of personal medical data to address various de-identification needs in different medical record data. In this article, we propose three research issues for de-identification: 1) Research on the application of deep language models and de-identification technology in medical cases;2) optimization of prompt engineering to enhance de-identification of medical cases by large language models;3) Optimization and promotion of de-identification technology for practical applications in the medical. © (2025), (Femto Technique Co., Ltd.). The TMAP Framework: Describing the Design Space of Technology-Mediated Audience Participation in Live Music

Technology-mediated audience participation (TMAP) offers a wide variety of ways to enhance the involvement of spectators during a music performance. Technological change has created rich new opportunities for such interactive performance experiences. Effective design of TMAP requires balancing knowledge from diverse human and technological perspectives and taking into account very different characteristics and requirements in live music performance. However, research in this distinctive area of interaction design is limited, and the provision of practical guidance for designers has been scarcely addressed thus far. To bridge this gap, we propose the TMAP Framework, which describes the design space of audience participation in a practice-oriented way to support design-related processes. This descriptive framework is grounded on existing literature from the last 25 years, and has been iteratively improved and peer reviewed with different experts. It was validated using actual TMAP performances not included in the framework development. The TMAP Framework contains 180 entities in a tree-like sorted structure on four levels. Alongside the contribution to knowledge of extensively describing the design space of TMAP in live music, with the validation of the framework, we demonstrate its completeness, stability and generalisability. In this regard, the framework may also serve as a common language between different perspectives and practitioners, thus addressing the highly interdisciplinary nature of the TMAP field. © 2013 IEEE.

Millions of individuals worldwide are impacted by diabetic retinopathy, which is a leading cause of blindness and vision loss. The early detection of DR is extremely important and machine learning approaches have shown promising results in this regard. The present study thus uses a DR dataset acquired from the publicly available UCI machine learning repository. The dataset is normalized using the StandardScalar technique and then feature extraction is performed using Principal Component Analysis to extract the most significant features. Further, firefly algorithm is implemented for dimensionality reduction. This dataset is fed into a DNN framework which generates superior results in comparison to the contemporary ML models. A collaborative system that includes mobile devices (MDs), edge nodes (ENs), and the cloud is needed where ENs at the network edge can run offloaded tasks of MDs with limited resources and energy for timely processing for latency-sensitive applications. Unlike existing studies, we formulate a total cost minimization problem for the system for applications, which can be divided into several interdependent subtasks. Each subtask can be executed in MDs, ENs, and the cloud. This work formulates a mixed-integer nonlinear program to minimize the total system cost. To address it, a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm called Genetic Simulated-annealing-based Particle swarm optimization with Auto-Encoder (GSPAE) is proposed, which innovatively combines feature extraction of deep learning and global search of meta-heuristic optimization. Genetic operations provide diverse solutions, the Metropolis acceptance of annealing offers a robust global search, and autoencoders (AEs) extract distribution characteristics of particles toward high-quality regions for fast convergence. Thus, GSPAE optimizes the associations between ENs and MDs and the scheduling of subtasks among MDs, ENs, and the cloud. Experiments with large-scale Google cluster datasets show that compared to state-of-the-art benchmark methods, GSPAE reduces the total cost by at least 17% while strictly meeting limits of application latency, available energy, computing, and communication resources of ENs and MDs. © 2014 IEEE.
