In a question & answer (Q& A) system, credible users provide answers of higher correctness. However, in a distributed social network based Q& A (SNQ& A) system, an asker does not know a k-hop answerer's credibility, thus making it difficult for the asker to assess the answer correctness. Therefore, a credibility-enabled distributed SNQ& A system is crucial for determining the correctness of the answers. To this end, we propose CRED, a credibility-enabled distributed SNQ& A system, which facilitates each user to assess the correctness of the provided answers. CRED utilizes subjective logic to build interestwise friend-to-friend credibility opinions under uncertainties. The developed opinions are then accumulated by CRED to get each user's aggregated credibility opinion, which may reflect the user's real credibility. CRED forwards a question to users with highest credibility beliefs in the question interest category. Our evaluation results show that, on average, CRED accomplishes higher success ratio, higher answer correctness, and lower answer uncertainty by 12.1%, 16.4%, and 22.2%, respectively, as compared to the best-performing baseline systems.

Free-electron radiation is a fundamental photon emission process that is induced by fast-moving electrons interacting with optical media. Historically, it has been understood that, just like any other photon emission process, free-electron radiation must be constrained within a finite time interval known as the "formation time", whose concept is applicable to both Cherenkov radiation and transition radiation, the two basic mechanisms describing radiation from a bulk medium and from an interface, respectively. Here we reveal an alternative mechanism of free-electron radiation far beyond the previously defined formation time. It occurs when a fast electron crosses the interface between vacuum and a plasmonic medium supporting bulk plasmons. While emitted continuously from the crossing point on the interface — thus consistent with the features of transition radiation — the extra radiation beyond the conventional formation time is supported by a long tail of bulk plasmons following the electron’s trajectory deep into the plasmonic medium. Such a plasmonic tail mixes surface and bulk effects, and provides a sustained channel for electron-interface interaction. These results also settle the historical debate in Ferrell radiation, regarding whether it is a surface or bulk effect, from transition radiation or plasmonic oscillation. Topological insulating phases are usually found in periodic lattices stemming from collective resonant effects, and it may thus be expected that similar features may be prohibited in thermal diffusion, given its purely dissipative and largely incoherent nature. We report the diffusion-based topological states supported by spatiotemporally-modulated advections stacked over a fluidic surface, thereby imitating a periodic propagating potential in effective thermal lattices. We observe edge and bulk states within purely nontrivial and trivial lattices, respectively. At interfaces between these two types of lattices, the diffusive system exhibits interface states, manifesting inhomogeneous thermal properties on the fluidic surface. Our findings establish a framework for topological diffusion and thermal edge/bulk states, and it may empower a distinct mechanism for flexible manipulation of robust heat and mass transfer. © 2021, CC BY.

This study proposes a multiparty mediated quantum secret sharing (MQSS) protocol that allows n restricted quantum users to share a secret via the assistance of a dishonest third-party (TP) with full quantum capabilities. Under the premise that a restricted quantum user can only perform the Hadamard transformation and the Z-basis measurement, the proposed MQSS protocol has addressed two common challenges in the existing semi-quantum secret sharing protocols: (1) the dealer must have full quantum capability, and (2) the classical users must equip with the wavelength quantum filter and the photon number splitters (PNS) to detect the Trojan horse attacks. The security analysis has also delivered proof to show that the proposed MQSS protocol can avoid the collective attack, the collusion attack, and the Trojan horse attacks. In addition, the proposed MQSS protocol is more efficient than the existing SQSS protocols due to the restricted quantum users can only equip with two quantum operations, and the qubits are transmitted within a shorter distance. In this paper an electret-based electrostatic induction wind harvester is presented. The induction electrostatic field is produced with an electret. It is described how the electret and the harvester prototype have been obtained. The rising prevalence of depression presents a significant global health challenge, underscoring the need for effective early detection through sentiment analysis. Traditional multimodal sentiment analysis methods, which rely on Euclidean space for data representation, often fail to capture the complex hierarchical relationships and non-linear structures inherent in multimodal data. To address this limitation, we propose a novel multimodal architecture that operates in hyperbolic space and incorporates attention-based ensemble learning to enhance feature representation and model performance. We developed and evaluated ten AI models—five utilizing Euclidean space and five leveraging hyperbolic space—on the Spoken Language Understanding Evaluation (SLUE) benchmark dataset. The models were assessed using cross-validation techniques to ensure robustness, and statistical analyses were conducted to validate the findings. Our results indicate that hyperbolic-based multimodal models achieve a 2.32% improvement in accuracy compared to their Euclidean counterparts, while the integration of self-attention mechanisms further contributes an average accuracy gain of 0.96%. Additionally, we observed a 3.76% decline in performance when reducing the training-to-test data ratio from 90:10 to 50:50, highlighting the importance of data distribution in model training. These findings confirm that attention-enhanced multimodal models in hyperbolic space offer superior representations for sentiment analysis. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2025.

Charge density waves are emergent quantum states that spontaneously reduce crystal symmetry, drive metal-insulator transitions, and precede superconductivity. In low-dimensions, distinct quantum states arise, however, thermal fluctuations and external disorder destroy long-range order. Here we stabilize ordered two-dimensional (2D) charge density waves through endotaxial synthesis of confined monolayers of 1T-TaS2. Specifically, an ordered incommensurate charge density wave (oIC-CDW) is realized in 2D with dramatically enhanced amplitude and resistivity. By enhancing CDW order, the hexatic nature of charge density waves becomes observable. Upon heating via in-situ TEM, the CDW continuously melts in a reversible hexatic process wherein topological defects form in the charge density wave. From these results, new regimes of the CDW phase diagram for 1T-TaS2 are derived and consistent with the predicted emergence of vestigial quantum order. © 2023, CC BY.

Global demand for data scientists and analysts is on a trajectory of sustained growth, underscoring the need to expand enrollment of students in data science and data analytics courses and programs. This article explores diverse pathways to data science for various groups, including high school students, those in two-year colleges, and students in small colleges and minority-serving institutions. This article identifies opportunities and challenges associated with pursuing data science for students in these sectors, including factors such as building partnerships and awareness of the field and difficulties in establishing articulation agreements between institutions. The authors, representing various organizations participating in a panel discussion at the 2023 Data science Leadership Summit of the Academic Data science Alliance (ADSA), share insights into efforts to develop nontraditional pathways, serving as a resource for schools, colleges, and organizations contemplating creation of data science programs. The panelists’ combined experience spans work with a broad range of organizations including ADSA, American Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges, American Statistical Association, Data science for Everyone, the Department of Education, HBCU Data science Consortium, Mathematical Association of America, National Academies of science, Engineering, and Medicine, HBCU Data science Consortium, National science Foundation, and StatPREP.

Immersion, interaction, and imagination are three features of virtual reality (VR). Existing VR systems possess fairly realistic visual and auditory feedbacks, and however, are poor with haptic feedback, by means of which human can perceive the physical world via abundant haptic properties. Haptic display is an interface aiming to enable bilateral signal communications between human and computer, and thus to greatly enhance the immersion and interaction of VR systems. This paper surveys the paradigm shift of haptic display occurred in the past 30 years, which is classified into three stages, including desktop haptics, surface haptics, and wearable haptics. The driving forces, key technologies and typical applications in each stage are critically reviewed. Toward the future high-fidelity VR interaction, research challenges are highlighted concerning handheld haptic device, multimodal haptic device, and high fidelity haptic rendering. In the end, the importance of understanding human haptic perception for designing effective haptic devices is addressed.
