This study aims at designing Map Reduce and federated learning-based asthma prediction model for adolescent to provide answers to the problems associated with the existing asthma prediction model for adolescent. This study leveraged on two diverse datasets: the Nigerian Hospital Asthma dataset and the National Survey of Children Health dataset for benchmarking purposes. Symmetrical uncertainty and normalization interaction were employed for feature selection. The model was trained using Federated Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology Enabler (FATE) and complemented with XGBoost model and one central server for federated algorithm averaging. The study was implemented with python programming language on Google Collaboratory environment. The results of the analysis showed considerable high accuracy of 0.98, precision (0.98%), recall (0.98%) and F1-socre (0.99%) for the asthmatic class and precision of 0.98%, recall of 0.98%, as well as F1-score of 0.99% for the non-asthmatic class. The implemented model was benchmark with the existing asthma prediction models in the literature. Simulated attack was also performed using implemented model with and without Map Reduce. This study concludes that the researchers’ model has the potentials to outperform some of the existing machine learning models on asthma prediction in adolescent, thereby facilitating collaborative sharing of the model with other hospitals, protect the patient information from leakage, meeting the criteria of healthcare data protection regulation as well as beneficial for enhancing the security of the dataset.

Investigating Preservice Secondary Teachers’ Understanding and Enactment of the Standards-Based Practices During Microteaching

Reform efforts in K-12 science education have been gaining pace ever since the introduction of the Next Generation science Standards (NGSS). The new vision calls for reconsidering teacher preparation programs to prepare future teachers who are confident and competent in delivering NGSS-based instruction. This study investigated the development of 27 preservice secondary science and mathematics teachers’ (PSTs’) knowledge and skills as they understand, interpret, and implement the NGSS, particularly science and engineering practices (SEPs), within the context of microteaching during a STEM methods course. Primary data sources include 12 videos of 40-min-long microteaching lessons, self-reflections, semi-structured and focus-group interviews, and artifacts such as student-designed science lesson plans. This qualitative study utilizes deductive-inductive and thematic analysis approaches to analyze PSTs microteaching videos to understand how various SEPs were enacted and integrated within the science lessons. While the average duration of the occurrence of each SEP varied, SEP 1 (Asking questions) showed the least occurrence compared to other SEPs across lessons. Most PSTs reported a better understanding of the NGSS framework at the end of the semester and found it a useful tool for planning a science lesson. Molecular communication (MC) is a technology that utilizes microscopic particles such as molecules to communicate at the microscopic scale in living organisms. The nanomachine receiver as a critical part of MC has been extensively investigated. However, existing analyses of nanomachine receivers rarely consider the effects of various chemical reactions. In the few papers that considered the effect of chemical reaction on the channel, the effect of receptor coverage on the receiver surface was also not considered. To fill this gap, this paper studies the variation of channel capacity with coverage rate when the surface of the nanomachine receiver is partially covered with the receptors. This paper derived numerical results of channel capacity under the scenarios above and carried out the numerical simulations. The simulation results show that the channel capacity increases with the increase of coverage, which can guide the design of high-performance nanomachines. © 2022 IEEE.

Machine Learning researchers have been attempting to accurately predict stock price trends. Moreover, financial researchers use Technical Analysis with optimization models [1] to achieve the same task by extracting and combining important features for the model. Despite many Algorithmic Trading systems (ATS) available, modelling the stock market has still been proven difficult since stock prices are nonlinear and often appear random [2]. This work focuses on leveraging the advantages of both by employing the Technical Analysis approach to create features for training Machine Learning models. The models were evaluated using data from nine stocks listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) from 2019 to 2023. The performances of three machine learning models: Logistic Regression, K-Nearest Neighbors, and Support Vector Machines were compared with Differential Evolution and the buy-and-hold strategies. The results showed that the Differential Evolution can significantly improve the return on investment in comparison to the Machine Learning models and the buy-and-hold strategies.

Background: Young people with life-limiting conditions have unmet psycho-spiritual needs. Dignity Therapy is a psycho-therapeutic end-of-life intervention that addresses life review, meaning making and legacy leaving. Studies of Dignity Therapy including young people are limited. Aim: To co-design a digital Dignity Therapy-based intervention for young people with life-limiting conditions (DIGNISPACE). Design: A qualitative study including focus groups (n=5) with hospice-based healthcare professionals (n=23), semi-structured interviews with young people with life-limiting conditions (n=13) and family carers (n=12). Data were analyzed using framework analysis. Results: Three main themes were derived;intervention purpose, amendments to the Dignity Therapy question protocol and content for a digital application. Findings influenced the development of DIGNISPACE and a model of dignity in young people with life-limiting conditions. Conclusions: DIGNISPACE addresses the psycho-spiritual needs of young people with life-limiting conditions, including tenets of the model of dignity in young people with life-limiting conditions in its content and delivery. © The Author(s) 2023.

To enable large-scale and efficient deployment of artificial intelligence (AI), the combination of AI and edge computing has spawned Edge Intelligence, which leverages the computing and communication capabilities of end devices and edge servers to process data closer to where it is generated. A key technology for edge intelligence is the privacy-protecting machine learning paradigm known as Federated Learning (FL), which enables data owners to train models without having to transfer raw data to third-party servers. However, FL networks are expected to involve thousands of heterogeneous distributed devices. As a result, communication efficiency remains a key bottleneck. To reduce node failures and device exits, a Hierarchical Federated Learning (HFL) framework is proposed, where a designated cluster leader supports the data owner through intermediate model aggregation. Therefore, based on the improvement of edge server resource utilization, this paper can effectively make up for the limitation of cache capacity. In order to mitigate the impact of soft clicks on the quality of user experience (QoE), the authors model the user QoE as a comprehensive system cost. To solve the formulaic problem, the authors propose a decentralized caching algorithm with federated deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and federated learning (FL), where multiple agents learn and make decisions independently. With the rapid development of tourism, more and more people choose to travel by air, and the price fluctuation of air tickets is large and the law is not significant, which makes it necessary to use some big data technical means to predict the change law of prices. The research and analysis of the characteristics of air tickets are helpful to analyze the internal value of tourism. Based on the web crawler technology, this paper obtains a large number of flight information from Shanghai to Guangzhou. Through data exploration and preprocessing, Random Forest classification model is established to predict the purchase of air tickets. The prediction accuracy of whether to buy or not is 96.96%. Then, ARIMA model is established to predict the ticket price trend. The deviation rate of the model is less than 18%. The future ticket price can be effectively predicted through Time Series. The machine learning model established in this paper provides model support for the study of the characteristics of air tickets. Existing methods cannot depict the intrinsic correlations of time series accurately. Aiming at the above problem, this paper proposes a novel time series causal analysis scheme called GWO-KGC, which incorporating grey wolf optimization algorithm into kernel-ganger causal analysis. Specifically, the model removes redundant and unrelated variables, and also recognizes the complex nonlinear relationships between variables, thus providing an optimal subset of input features. Meanwhile, in order to verify the correctness of the causal analysis results, the GWO is introduced to the echo state network, to validate the influencing factors. The simulation results show that GWO-KGC model can accurately identify the main influencing factors of the selected variables, which guarantees enhanced prediction accuracy.

Wireless cooperative relay networks are widely used in various fields. Wireless channels are vulnerable to eavesdroppers because of the broadcast characteristics of wireless channels, the security problem of wireless cooperative relay networks needs to be solved urgently, and the trust level of relays is rarely considered in existing work. Therefore, the paper considers a wireless cooperative relay network with a passive eavesdropping node and untrusted relays and designs a trusted buffer-aided relay selection (TBARS) scheme based on the fact that the channel state information (CSI) of eavesdropping channel is hard to obtain. The paper uses the secrecy outage probability (SOP) to measure the security performance, derives the expression of the SOP based on Markov Process, and verify the feasibility of the TBARS scheme by simulations and analyzes the impact of various factors on the SOP of the TBARS scheme. Finally, the paper compares the TBARS scheme with max-link scheme in terms of the SOP, and the simulations demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the other schemes. © 2021 IEEE.
