Background: Ischaemic heart disease (IHD) results from insufficient coronary blood flow. Computational models of coronary flow allow quantification of virtual fractional flow reserve (vFFR) and absolute flow (Q), reducing the need for invasive testing in supporting the diagnosis and treatment of IHD. One-dimensional (1D) models of coronary flow provide rapid assessment of coronary physiology, but accuracy is sometimes *** and results: In the current study, we describe and derive a novel 1D model of coronary flow, derived from the Navier-Stokes equations, which pays greater attention to vital anatomical features such as vessel taper, con- vective acceleration and boundary slip. Using 15 idealised coronary arterial anatomies, based upon patient data, we compared vFFR results derived us- ing the model with a pre-existing 1D model of coronary flow. Progressive training of multi-level wavelet residual networks for image denoising

Recent years have witnessed the great success of deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in image denoising. Albeit deeper network and larger model capacity generally benefit performance, it remains a challenging practical issue to train a very deep image denoising network. Using multilevel wavelet-CNN (MWCNN) as an example, we empirically find that the denoising performance cannot be significantly improved by either increasing wavelet decomposition levels or increasing convolution layers within each level. To cope with this issue, this paper presents a multi-level wavelet residual network (MWRN) architecture as well as a progressive training (PT-MWRN) scheme to improve image denoising performance. In contrast to MWCNN, our MWRN introduces several residual blocks after each level of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and before inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT). For easing the training difficulty, scale-specific loss is applied to each level of MWRN by requiring the intermediate output to approximate the corresponding wavelet subbands of ground-truth clean image. To ensure the effectiveness of scale-specific loss, we also take the wavelet subbands of noisy image as the input to each scale of the encoder. Furthermore, progressive training scheme is adopted for better learning of MWRN by beigining with training the lowest level of MWRN and progressively training the upper levels to bring more fine details to denoising results. Experiments on both synthetic and real-world noisy images show that our PT-MWRN performs favorably against the state-of-the-art denoising methods in terms both quantitative metrics and visual quality. A continuous aggregated dynamic model of gas production at a gas field is under construction. Several issues related to gas extraction modeling are under discussion. Two possible options for developing a gas field with certain conditions are under consideration. The first strategy concerns the development of one gas field at two consecutive time stages: At a constant rate of wells drilling and in the absence of drilling. The second strategy concerns maintaining an unaltered level of gas production by commissioning new wells. We study each option in detail and draw appropriate conclusions. We also pose and solve optimization problems for maximum overall extraction and maximum profit. The issues proposed for the study belong to the class of optimal control problems with a free right end and a fixed time. The necessary mathematical apparatus is the Pontryagin maximum principle. © 2020 IEEE.

A group of engineering educators at Texas A&M University participating in a book club professional development experience. This book club has listened to and discussed several books and movies including the books “Uncomfortable Conversations With a Black Man” by Emmanuel Acho, “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” by Paulo Friere, “Inclusive Conversations” by Mary-Frances Winters, and the movies “Picture a Scientist” and “Coded Bias.” Engineering in the academe is at a critical juncture considering the frequency and acceptance of difficult conversations related to society and social justice having a place in the discipline. Historically, Engineering has steered away from uncomfortable difficult conversations, but it is time to shed our old skin of a habitual depoliticization and emerge free from this restriction to develop our next generation of engineers. Not only are these types of discussions and conversations essential to ensure that the disci-pline continues to become more diverse, inclusive, and equitable, but these discussions better prepare engineers to consider societal factors when they ultimately are designing products, services, and tools for society as a whole. Several thousand engineers are graduating from undergraduate programs every year with little to no discussion of social justice in their programs This study will identify the impact participation in this book club has had in professionally developing faculty participants to engage in uncomfortable discussions and how they might have attempted to integrate societal issues into the courses that they teach at Texas A&M University. Interviews were conducted with members of this book club via Zoom and transcribed automatically. Those transcripts were then analyzed using thematic analysis to identify the major recurrent themes amongst participants. We consider a continuous aggregated deterministic dynamic model of the movement of gas reserves by category. According to the classification of combustible gas reserves, we characterize each type by the level of knowledge about the object, which is the carrier of information about the estimated stock of gas. We describe the movement of gas reserves by a system of differential equations and schematically depict this movement in the figure. When moving from one category to another, we take into account the degree of confirmation of reserves in the model. We pay special attention to the gas reserves multiplicity. To describe it, we introduce a time function that determines the total explored reserves of natural gas. We make a priori assumptions about its properties. We analyze six specific examples. For each sample, we determine the reserves multiplicity coefficient, the dynamics of which we analyze. We explain the behavior of the multiplicity coefficient and draw the appropriate conclusions. © 2020 IEEE.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) appeared at the end of 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and it should be mentioned that there are research centers in both America and China that have worked on these viruses for many years ago before the appearance of this virus. At the beginning of the year 2020, this virus has spread widely in most countries worldwide and has led to great human and material losses, and the World Health Organization considered it a pandemic. A review analysis is conducted to be focused on many factors affecting the published papers on Covid-19 that applied to science Direct library on 7/4/2020. We observed that most research studies have shown that this virus attacks the human respiratory system, which leads to shortness of breath and also leads to death in some cases. The obtained results showed that most of these research papers are focusing on statistics (41%), medicine (40%), management (17%), and healthcare (2%) respectively. Statistical analysis is helpful to understand the orientation of research papers published on Covid-19. Statistics and medicine respectively, occupy a large part of the research side of the Covid-19. It is a short time since the spread of the Corona virus, so research results cannot reach maturity.

Sustainable Innovation Post-Pandemic: Perspectives from the US, Canada, Norway, and Thailand

This paper explores perspectives for improved sustainable innovation for the post COVID-19 pandemic era. We conducted online interviews between October and December 2020 with 16 individuals working in social entrepreneurship, tech startups, established companies, and non-profit business support organizations across the US, Canada, Norway, and Thailand. Our findings reveal a shared commitment to four themes related to sustainable innovation post-pandemic: (1) thinking of local problems as global problems, in the same way that innovation technologies and businesses can cause global disruptions;(2) including historically underserved populations in innovation business activities, as it is also important to truly understand how technologies and innovation businesses impact the lives of people experiencing low-socioeconomic status;(3) helping people in remote communities, low- and middle-income countries, and wartorn areas is essential – offering hands-on basic computing training could be an option for helping people gain employment in the digital economy;and (4) having governments lead postpandemic sustainable innovation projects and then invite businesses to participate. In addition, this paper proposes a theoretical framework for fostering innovation in resourceconstrained environments following large-scale disruptions. © 1973-2011 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive finite element method for an elliptic equation with line Dirac delta functions as a source term. We first study the well-posedness and global regularity of the solution in the whole domain. Instead of regularizing the singular source term and using the classical residual-based a posteriori error estimator, we propose a novel a posteriori estimator based on an equivalent transmission problem with zero source term and nonzero flux jumps on line fractures. The transmission problem is defined in the same domain as the original problem excluding on line fractures, and the solution is therefore shown to be more regular. The estimator relies on meshes conforming to the line fractures and its edge jump residual essentially uses the flux jumps of the transmission problem on line fractures. The error estimator is proven to be both reliable and efficient, an adaptive finite element algorithm is proposed based on the error estimator and the bisection refinement method. Numerical tests show that quasi-optimal convergence rates are achieved even for high order approximations and the adaptive meshes are only locally refined at singular points. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

This study scrutinizes the characteristics of activation energy on Darcy Forchheimer radiative flow of dusty Ellis trihybrid nanofluid over a Riga plate when dust and nanoparticles are present. The goal of the present work is to use the Hamilton-Crosser thermal conductivity model to scrutinize the heat transmission for the Darcy Forchheimer flow of dusty Ellis trihybrid nanofluid. The flow is impacted by heat source with the properties of Marangoni convection. The base fluid, propylene glycol (C3H8O2), is mixed with Ag, TiO2 and Al2O3 nanoparticles. The model is applicable to sophisticated heat transfer systems, including solar energy harvesting and electronic device cooling technologies. Additionally, it finds application in thermal management of industrial processes using nanofluids and aerospace engineering. Using the shooting technique, the numerical results of the governing equations are obtained (RKF-45th). The impacts on dimensionless physical quantities of interest of geometrical and physical properties relevant to this study are analysed using the required tables and figures. The results demonstrated that the Ellis fluid parameter raised the heat transmission, mass transmission rate, and velocity profiles. As the chemical reaction parameter upsurges, the concentration distributions decrease. © 2025 The Author(s)
