Non-holonomic omnidirectional mobile robots have higher load carrying capacity than their holonomic counterparts. Once the steer joint configuration is initialized, they can perform arbitrarily complex three-dimensional trajectories in the plane of motion and, as such, are more suitable for industrial contexts. However, their kinematic model presents representational and structural singularities, solutions to which must respect actuator performance limits. Recent research efforts have provided either simple restricting of the velocity space (among which few considered hardware limits) or complex non-restricting (no hardware limits considered) solutions. Most of these efforts are providing solutions at the kinematic control level. Instead, here we propose both a representational singularity free kinematic model, and a simple numeric treatment for the kinematic singularity. We further provide a method to tune the latter, to respect the actuator acceleration limits. Thanks to its steer rate damping behavior, the method can be further extended, to respect joint limits. Another benefit is the treatment of the singularity at the level of the kinematic model, which enhances real time capabilities. The developed method has been tested successfully on the Neobotix-MPO700 mobile robot and shown superior results as compared to the embedded controller.

We propose a self-organising map (SOM) algorithm as a solution to a new multi-goal path planning problem for active perception and data collection tasks. We optimise paths for a multi-robot team that aims to maximally observe a set of nodes in the environment. The selected nodes are observed by visiting associated viewpoint regions defined by a sensor model. The key problem characteristics are that the viewpoint regions are overlapping polygonal continuous regions, each node has an observation reward, and the robots are constrained by travel budgets. The SOM algorithm jointly selects and allocates nodes to the robots and finds favourable sequences of sensing locations. The algorithm has polynomial-bounded runtime independent of the number of robots. We demonstrate feasibility for the active perception task of observing a set of 3D objects. The viewpoint regions consider sensing ranges and self-occlusions, and the rewards are measured as discriminability in the ensemble of shape functions feature space. Simulations were performed using a 3D point cloud dataset from a real robot in a large outdoor environment. Our results show the proposed methods enable multi-robot planning for budgeted active perception tasks with continuous sets of candidate viewpoints and long planning horizons.

Home service robot works in unstructured environments with various tasks, where a low-cost, dexterous, and intrinsically safe manipulator is important. Traditionally, a redundant manipulator with high degrees of freedom (DOFs) is employed. However, high DOFs bring problems like high cost, complex physical designing, and heavy weight. Here a novel low-cost deformable manipulator for home service robot, which is composed of rigid joints and deformable links, is introduced. The deformable manipulator can obtain relatively dexterous and extended workspace with fewer joints by bending its deformable links. Considering the typical hybrid behaviors caused by bending operation, a hybrid model and a practical kinematic-free control framework with no prior kinematic information are proposed to describe and control the deformable manipulator. The model and controller have been implemented on a 4-DOF deformable manipulator with two deformable links in simulation. The simulation results validate the proposed deformable manipulator and kinematic-free control.

KM3NeT/ORCA is an underwater neutrino telescope under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. Its primary scientific goal is to measure the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters and to determine the neutrino mass ordering. ORCA can constrain the oscillation parameters (formula presented) and θ23 by reconstructing the arrival direction and energy of multi-GeV neutrinos crossing the Earth. Searches for deviations from the Standard Model of particle physics in the forward scattering of neutrinos inside Earth matter, produced by Non-Standard Interactions, can be conducted by investigating distortions of the standard oscillation pattern of neutrinos of all flavours. This work reports on the results of the search for non-standard neutrino interactions using the first six detection units of ORCA and 433 kton-years of exposure. No significant deviation from standard interactions was found in a sample of 5828 events reconstructed in the 1 GeV−1 TeV energy range. The flavour structure of the non-standard coupling was constrained at 90% confidence level to be |Εµτ| ≤ 5.4×10−3, |Εeτ| ≤ 7.4 × 10−2, |Εeµ| ≤ 5.6 × 10−2 and −0.015 ≤ Εττ − Εµµ ≤ 0.017. The KM3NeT Collaboration has tackled a common challenge faced by the astroparticle physics community, namely adapting the experiment-specific simulation software to work with the CORSIKA air shower simulation output. The proposed solution is an extension of the open-source code gSeaGen, allowing for the transport of muons generated by CORSIKA to a detector of any size at an arbitrary depth. The gSeaGen code was not only extended in terms of functionalities but also underwent a thorough redesign of the muon propagation routine, resulting in a more accurate and efficient simulation. KM3NeT/ORCA is a water Cherenkov neutrino detector under construction and anchored at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The detector is designed to study oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos and determine the neutrino mass ordering. This paper focuses on an initial configuration of ORCA, referred to as ORCA6, which comprises six out of the foreseen 115 detection units of photo-sensors. A high-purity neutrino sample was extracted, corresponding to an exposure of 433 kton-years. The sample of 5828 neutrino candidates is analysed following a binned log-likelihood method in the reconstructed energy and cosine of the zenith angle. The atmospheric oscillation parameters are measured to be sin2 θ23 = 0.51+0.04−0.05, and ∆m231 = 2.18+0.25−0.35 ×10−3 eV2 ∪{−2.25,−1.76}×10−3 eV2 at 68% CL. Indirect dark matter detection methods are used to observe the products of dark matter annihilations or decays originating from astrophysical objects where large amounts of dark matter are thought to accumulate. With neutrino telescopes, an excess of neutrinos is searched for in nearby dark matter reservoirs, such as the Sun and the Galactic Centre, which could potentially produce a sizeable flux of Standard Model particles. The KM3NeT infrastructure, currently under construction, comprises the ARCA and ORCA undersea Čerenkov neutrino detectors located at two different sites in the Mediterranean Sea, offshore of Italy and France, respectively. The two detector configurations are optimised for the detection of neutrinos of different energies, enabling the search for dark matter particles with masses ranging from a few GeV/c2 to hundreds of TeV/c2. In this work, searches for dark matter annihilations in the Galactic Centre and the Sun with data samples taken with the first configurations of both detectors are presented. No significant excess over the expected background was found in either of the two analyses. Limits on the velocity-averaged self-annihilation cross section of dark matter particles are computed for five different primary annihilation channels in the Galactic Centre. For the Sun, limits on the spin-dependent and spin-independent scattering cross sections of dark matter with nucleons are given for three annihilation channels. © 2024, CC BY.

A human walking has some general characteristics such as general timing of walking cycle, foot state at each timing, relationship with the stride per stature and walking speed, joint angle patterns of leg, pelvis movement, foot clearance during swing phase. So we collected and analysed the normal walking characteristics to generating natural walking pattern for general biped rigid-body configuration And we explained how to generate the walking pattern in sagittal plane possessing human normal walking characteristics. Finally, we demonstrated that our walking pattern properly have the normal walking characteristics.

Real-time recognition of the 6DOF pose of textureless objects is a fundamental and challenging problem in robotics. We present a novel approach to perform realtime estimation of the viewpoint, scale, and translation of an object in RGB and RGB-D image captures. In this work, we use a 3D model to render example poses of a textureless object, and find the nearest match to the input image using a GPU implementation. To achieve invariance to illumination and appearance across an object, we transform images to the Laplacian of Gaussian space. To perform real-time matching, we introduce a novel reshaping of the template set and the image, and we restructure the traditional normalized cross-correlation operation to leverage the GPU for fast matrix-matrix multiplication. We provide futher speed up of large-scale template matching by contributing a dimensionality reduction approach using principal component analysis, and a candidate elimination method. Our method achieves state-of-the-art performance as shown by qualitative results and quantitative comparisons to pre-existing methods.
