This research study analyzes six key factors in the education and teaching of IoT embedded direction: training objectives (which direction to teach), curriculum system (what to teach), teaching organization (how to teach), faculty team (who teaches), and teaching evaluation (how well the teaching is) under the current status of embedded teaching on the Internet of Things (IoT) engineering discipline. Guided by the latest National Occupational Technical Skill Standards for IoT engineering professionals and in accordance with the educational philosophy of Chengdu Neusoft University, here we propose a design for teaching system for IoT embedded talent courses, clarified the key elements and formulated new ideas for the current development of talents in this direction to assist improvement and perfection of related curriculum systems, and to promote the establishment and operation of practical and technological activity platforms. It aims to provide practical references for the construction of professionalism in education and teaching standards of IoT. © 2025 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce a new dataset for air conditioner refrigerant leak smoke detection, called ACRL-10K. The dataset is designed to develop algorithms for detecting refrigerant leak smoke faults during air conditioner recycling. It contains a total of 10, 724 images covering three common scenarios of air conditioner refrigerant leak: loading port, refrigerant extraction, and disassembly. All images are sourced from 656 video segments of real air conditioner recycling scenarios, captured by surveillance cameras deployed on an environmental company's recycling production line. The annotations for the refrigerant leak smoke in the images are performed by industry experts to ensure high accuracy and consistency. To the best of our knowledge, ACRL-10K is the first dataset specifically designed for refrigerant leak smoke detection. Based on the ACRL-10K dataset, we present the performance of mainstream object detectors, including the YOLO series, as a baseline to conduct the following work: 1) preliminarily summarize the challenges of using the dataset for refrigerant leak smoke detection;2) show the detection results of benchmark methods;and 3) make a comparison to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the baseline algorithms. In practice, the ACRL-10K dataset would hopefully advance research and applications in refrigerant leak early warning during air conditioner dismantling and recycling processes. © 2025 IEEE.

With the rapid development of social media, sentiment analysis from multimodal posts has garnered significant attention in recent years. However, the substantial size of these models impedes their deployment on resource-constrained embedded devices. Although pruning has been extensively studied to reduce the size of unimodal models, specific challenges remain for Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) models. First, existing techniques prune fixed original models into sparse models, while our findings indicate that different model architectures of identical size yield varying performance outcomes. Second, prior studies fail to explore the unique characteristics of MSA models, resulting in suboptimal pruning performance. To address these challenges, we propose MPNAS, a unified pruning framework via Neural Architecture Search (NAS) for MSA models. Specifically, we formulate pruning as a NAS problem and analyze MSA model characteristics to guide the subnet search. We conduct an initial coarse-grained NAS on the original model, expanding the search space slightly to identify suitable subnets that enhance pruning rates and accuracy. Subsequently, we refine coarse-grained subnets in a fine-grained NAS stage, where MSA model characteristics guide the search process. Extensive experiments on three representative datasets demonstrate the superiority of our approach over existing methods. © 2025 IEEE.

Tourism is a significant source of income for countries and regions, and with the advancement of technology, everything is now interconnected, generating massive amounts of data. Recommender systems are one way to utilize this generated big data. However, currently, Ethiopian Tourism Institutions do not have a system to manage tourist sites, analyze customer preferences and behavior, or filter based on their interests. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develop a collaborative-based recommender system for Ethiopian tourism sites. This study applies both user-based collaborative filtering using a cosine similarity algorithm and model-based collaborative filtering using singular value decomposition (SVD), nonnegative matrix factorization(NMF), and K-nearest neighbors (KNNBasic) to analyze the data collected from the Amhara tourism office, which describes the Ethiopian tourism site. After the analysis, the results show that cosine similarity has the lowest root mean square error (RMSE) score. The methodology followed in this research is the design science approach, and the artifact recommender system is developed using the flask framework. After demonstrating the recommender system, domain experts evaluate it, achieving a promising result of 84.2%. The scarcity of data is a significant challenge, and thus, limited attributes for clustering are selected. Using more attributes to make the similarity of tourists will improve the development of the tourist site recommender system, which is left for future researchers to consider. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Depth model-based behavior estimation of human skeletal points is widely used in the field of behavior recognition. In order to improve the accuracy of behavior recognition, the complexity and computation of the designed network model are increasing, while the mobile platforms have limited arithmetic power and memory, and thus cannot be deployed. To solve the above problems, the AGCN network, a skeletal point-based behavior recognition model, is clipped to compress the network size so that it can support common mobile platforms;and a multi-feature co-distillation method is proposed to efficiently migrate the performance of the original network to the target network, so that the performance of the clipped lightweight network tends to be close to that of the original network. The model training, testing, visualization, and ablation experiments are completed on the NTU-RGB+D60 data set. The experimental results show that the algorithm after lightweighting (clipping network and multi-feature co-distillation), can significantly reduce the computational amount of behavior recognition. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) emerged as an innovative and patient-centric approach for non-invasive and painless examination of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It serves as a pivotal tool in helping medical practitioners in the early detection of anomalies within the intricate domain of the human GI tract. The automated identification of aberrations assumes paramount significance, contributing not only to temporal efficiency but also to timely diagnosis. Within the realm of academic literature, a plethora of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies have been proposed to effectuate the automatic classification, segmentation, and synthesis of anomalies inherent in WCE images. This scholarly endeavor undertakes a comprehensive and meticulous survey, elucidating the spectrum of anomaly classification, summarization, and detection techniques harnessed for computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) in the context of WCE images. The survey begins by delineating the methodologies underpinning WCE image classification and video processing. Subsequently, an exhaustive evaluation of techniques for analyzing WCE images is furnished, accompanied by an in-depth exploration of pertinent surveys, in addition to a judicious assessment of their merits and demerits. Furthermore, this study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of prevailing datasets utilized to benchmark the efficacy of various WCE techniques. 3DGCformer: 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional transformer for multi-step origin–destination matrix forecasting

Forecasting Human mobility is of great significance in the simulation and control of infectious diseases like COVID-19. To get a clear picture of potential future outbreaks, it is necessary to forecast multi-step Origin–Destination (OD) matrices for a relatively long period in the future. However, multi-step Origin–Destination Matrix Forecasting (ODMF) is a non-trivial problem. First, previous ODMF models only forecast the OD matrix for the next time-step, and they cannot perform well on long-term multi-step forecasts due to error accumulation. Second, many ODMF methods capture spatial and temporal dependencies with separate modules, which is insufficient to model spatio-temporal correlations in the time-varying OD matrix sequence. To address the challenges in multi-step ODMF, we propose 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional Transformer (3DGCformer). As an enhancement of the original 3DGCN, we propose a novel Origin–Destination Feature Propagation (ODFP) rule between 3DGCN layers and integrate 2 3DGCNs with different spatio-temporal graphs and corresponding feature propagation rules to model the formation of OD flows in a more comprehensive way. For multi-step forecasts, 3DGCformer uses Transformer to capture long-term global temporal dependency, and adapt its decoder using labeled tokens to avoid error accumulation and improve time efficiency. To avoid information loss as the number of regions increases, we propose a patch embedding approach to convert data from 3DGCNs to the Transformer module. We perform extensive experiments on 4 real-world human mobility datasets, and the results show that our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Reproducible Evaluation of Camera Auto-Exposure Methods in the Field: Platform, Benchmark, and Lessons Learned

Reproducibility is a cornerstone of scientific progress, as it enables fair comparisons between algorithms through the development of detailed solutions and datasets. However, standard datasets often present limitations, particularly due to the fixed nature of input data sensors, which makes it difficult to compare methods that actively adjust sensor parameters to suit environmental conditions. This is the case with automatic-exposure (AE) methods, which rely on environmental factors to influence the image acquisition process. As a result, AE methods have traditionally been benchmarked in an online manner, rendering experiments nonreproducible. Building on our previous work, we propose a methodology that utilizes an emulator capable of generating images at any exposure time. This approach leverages BorealHDR, a unique multiexposure stereo dataset, along with its new extension, in which data were acquired along a repeated trajectory at different times of the day to assess the impact of changing illumination. In total, BorealHDR covers 13.4km over 59 trajectories in challenging lighting conditions. The dataset also includes lidar-inertial odometry-based maps with pose estimation for each image frame, as well as global navigation satellite system (GNSS) data for comparison. We demonstrate that by using images acquired at various exposure times, we can emulate realistic images with a root-mean-square error (RMSE) below 1.78% compared to ground truth images. Using this offline approach, we benchmarked eight AE methods, concluding that the classical AE method remains the field’s best performer. To further support reproducibility, we provide in-depth details on the development of our backpack acquisition platform, including hardware, electrical components, and performance specifications. The increasing demand for programmers has led to a surge in participants in programming courses, making it increasingly challenging for instructors to assess student code manually. As a result, automated programming assessment systems (APASs) have been developed to streamline this process. These APASs support lecturers by managing and evaluating student programming exercises at scale. However, these tools often do not provide feature-rich online editors compared to their traditional integrated development environments (IDEs) counterparts. This absence of key features, such as syntax highlighting and autocompletion, can negatively impact the learning experience, as these tools are crucial for effective coding practice. To address this gap, this research contributes to the field of programming education by extracting and defining requirements for an online IDE in an educational context and presenting a prototypical implementation of an open-source solution for a scalable and secure online IDE. The usability of the new online IDE was assessed using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), gathering feedback from 27 first-year students through a structured survey. In addition to these qualitative insights, quantitative measures such as memory (RAM) usage were evaluated to determine the efficiency and scalability of the tool under varying usage conditions. A Package Level Regression Test Selection Approach for Java software Systems

Regression testing of software systems is an important and critical activity but can be expensive and resource-intensive. An approach to enhance its efficiency is Regression Test Selection (RTS), which selectively re-executes a subset of relevant tests that are impacted by code modifications. Previous studies on static and dynamic RTS for Java software have shown that selecting tests at the class level is more effective than using finer granularities like methods or statements. Nevertheless, RTS at the package level, which is a coarser granularity than class level, has not been thoroughly investigated or evaluated for Java projects. To address this gap, we propose PKRTS, a static package-level RTS approach that utilizes the structural dependencies of the software system under test to construct a package-level dependency graph. PKRTS analyzes dependencies in the graph and identifies relevant tests that can reach modified packages, i.e., packages containing altered classes. In contrast to conventional static RTS techniques, PKRTS implicitly considers dynamic dependencies, such as Java reflection and virtual method calls, among classes belonging to the same package by treating all those classes as a single cohesive node in the dependency graph. We evaluated PKRTS on 885 revisions of 9 open-source Java projects, with its performance compared to Ekstazi, a state-of-the-art dynamic class-level approach, and STARTS, a state-of-the-art static class-level approach. We used Ekstazi as the baseline to measure the safety and precision violations of PKRTS and STARTS. The results indicated that PKRTS outperformed static class-level RTS in terms of safety violation, which measures the extent to which relevant test cases are missed. PKRTS showed an average safety violation of 2.29%, while STARTS recorded 5.94%.
