Instruction selection optimization for VLIW architecture based on classification node merging

Traditional instruction selection methods fail to fully exploit the very long instruction word (VLIW) architecture’s efficient scalar instructions. We propose an optimized instruction selection method based on classification node merging. This method abstracts scalar intermediate instructions into nodes and divides them into associated and similar ones according to operational semantics. Combined with the VLIW architecture’s instruction set features and guided by the instruction cost model, the nodes are merged and optimized to select efficient instructions. We design an instruction generation framework that swiftly converts the low level virtual machine intermediate representation into the instruction sequence of the target architecture. The experimental results show that, compared with the instruction sequence generated by M7002-cc, the instruction sequence generated with the solution proposed in this paper exhibits an average execution performance that is up to 54% higher on the FT-M7002 hardware platform. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Most of the research conducted in action recognition is mainly focused on general human action recognition, and most of the available datasets support studies in general human action recognition. In more specific contexts, such as basketball, datasets that are as comprehensive and publicly available are limited. This study proposes taking three popular and mature methods in the field of action recognition, namely Temporal Segment Networks (TSN), Two-Stream CNN using Inflated 3D-convolutional Neural Networks (I3D) and Pose-C3D, and applying them to the SpaceJam dataset, which is a basketball-specific action dataset. All three experiments used pre-trained ImageNet models and were fine-tuned on the SpaceJam dataset. TSN was the oldest of the methods but obtained the best results of the three experiments, scoring a top-1 and top-5 accuracy of 59% and 96%, respectively. I3D was second best, with a top-1 and top-5 accuracy of 41% and 85%, respectively. Pose-C3D came in third, scoring a top-1 and top-5 accuracy of 15% and 50%, respectively. The results show that the models cannot distinguish significantly between some actions, such as ball in hand, pass and dribble. The study shows that it is feasible for context-specific fine-grain action recognition, but more needs to be done to discriminate against similar actions. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The post-processing rendered sequences improves the quality of the sequences and shortens the time of the rendering phase. However, most of the current post-processing methods for sequences are suitable for video. Directly transferring these methods to rendered sequences cannot obtain high-quality results. To address this problem, we propose an end-to-end spatial-temporal super-resolution network for rendered sequences, which improves rendering efficiency by simultaneously implementing frame interpolation (FI) and super-resolution. In the FI task, accurately inferring results that closer to the real motion state of the target frames is the key and difficult point to ensure the generation effect. For this issue, we design an auxiliary feature-guided interpolation (AFGI) module. By introducing the auxiliary features corresponding to the target frames, AFGI module provides the real motion state of the target frames to the network. In the part of aggregating contextual information, we propose a weighted aggregation upsampling (WAUpS) module. Aggregation is selectively performed based on the correlation between incoming information and the current frame. WAUpS module effectively prevents irrelevant information from affecting the super-resolution results, which is a problem with the direct aggregation methods used previously. At the same time, WAUpS module combines the upsampled features with the corresponding high-resolution auxiliary features. This addition provides the output with rich detail textures and other key information, further improving the overall processing quality. Experimental results show that compared with state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods, our method not only obtains high-quality rendered sequences processing results, but also effectively improves the rendering efficiency. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Blockchain rewriting is necessary for modifying illegal or messages included in blockchain transactions, while maintaining the consistency of subsequent blocks in the blockchain. However, arbitrary blockchain rewriting is not desirable as it defeats the purpose of blockchain rewriting. In this work, we propose a new security primitive named message-controlled chameleon hash (MCH) and apply it for message control in blockchain rewriting to ensure that no unspecified messages are generated from blockchain rewriting. The proposed MCH enables permitted parties to select candidate messages from designated message sets for blockchain rewriting at the message level. Our evaluation shows that the proposed MCH can be easily integrated into both permissioned and permissionless blockchains. © 2024 IEEE.

Variational Autoencoders (VAEs) have gained popularity as one of the main approaches for generating diverse and high-quality synthetic images. This study examines the suitability of evaluation metrics, specifically Inception Score and Fréchet Inception Distance (FID), for assessing these images. Particularly, the study focuses on the generation of synthetic images based on the MNIST handwritten digits dataset. Through the use of VAE-generated MNIST image samples, the study analyses the abovementioned metrics alongside alternative methods that can be used to assess image quality and diversity. The findings made from the study reveal the strengths and limitations of each metric in evaluating image quality and diversity. This paper underscores the need for tailored metrics to enhance the evaluation of generative models, while specifically using the performance of a VAE as the domain of investigation. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The integration of artificial intelligence in agriculture has revolutionized farming practices, enhancing crop yields and resource efficiency. However, existing machine learning systems primarily focus on livestock, overlooking the impact of wildlife on agricultural productivity. This study addresses the gap by introducing two classification pipelines utilizing VGG16 and ResNet50 models for identifying five major classes of wildlife (foxes, rats, pigeons, raccoons, and squirrels) affecting agricultural sectors. A comprehensive dataset, comprising existing datasets and trail-camera footage, is compiled for training and validation. The results show that models trained on clear images struggle to generalize to real-world environments (the best accuracy being 48.19%). Grey-scaled models perform worse with a 2-6% decrease. Training on the training dataset and evaluating the validation set yields better average results for the weaker-performing model. This study contributes to invasive animal control in agriculture, providing a foundation for effective wildlife management with computer vision. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). This paper situates itself within the broader medical imaging field, focusing on applying generative modelling techniques for anomaly detection in retinal images. Given the complexity of retinal structures, detecting subtle abnormalities that signal disease requires models that can learn intricate patterns and discern deviations. This study explores the use of a Variational Autoencoder (VAE) to reconstruct healthy retinal images and identify anomalies through reconstruction loss and latent space analysis. With the use of a dataset with an imbalance of healthy and abnormal samples, the model was trained exclusively on healthy images to capture a baseline of normal retinal features. The findings suggest that while the VAE can effectively reconstruct broader structural patterns, it needs to work on finer details, impacting its sensitivity in anomaly detection. These results highlight the challenges inherent in applying generative models to medical diagnostics and emphasise the need for advanced techniques, such as contrastive learning, that may enhance feature extraction. Thus, this paper contributes to the ongoing discourse on the suitability of generative models for medical imaging and supports continued research into more nuanced methods to meet the specific demands of retinal anomaly detection. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

An aspect-based sentiment analysis model for Arabic game reviews based on hybrid transformers models

Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) is a natural language processing (NLP) technique to determine the various sentiments of a customer in a single comment regarding different aspects. The increasing online data content generated by interested customers and reviewers motivated researchers and data scientists to conduct ABSA. ABSA has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its versatility in e-commerce, social media, and customer feedback analysis. However, ABSA faces several significant challenges, including determining the aspects and their sentiment polarities (positive, negative, or neutral) in a given text. Moreover, ABSA faces particular challenges in non-English languages such as Arabic due to the lack of resources and mature models. Typically, ABSA tackles one or more of the ABSA research tasks: (T1) aspect term extraction, (T2) aspect term polarity, (T3) aspect category identification, and (T4) aspect category polarity. To identify the aspects and their corresponding sentiment polarities in a given text, accurate and efficient NLP techniques are required. Despite growing interest in Arabic ABSA, the lack of annotated datasets and pre-trained models has hindered its development. In this research, we have collected a dataset of Arabic game reviews and annotated them using three annotators, and then we trained an ABSA deep learning model based on the BERT pre-trained model combined with zero-shot learning (ZSL) to tackle all the four aforementioned tasks. Our best performing model achieved a high accuracy on all four tasks with an accuracy of 91.61% on T1, 90.99% on T2, 79.08% on T3, and 88.17% on T4. Finally, we compared our model’s accuracy with the state-of-the-art Arabic-based ABSA models on different datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a common chronic illness caused by variations in the secretion of insulin. T2DM will be treated early with the help of an early diagnosis reducing the risk of early death and controlling is course of illness. In this Paper Machine Learning Algorithms (MLA) for T2DM diagnosis are proposed. The major objective of this research is to assess use of MLA and its methods to forecast different illnesses at an initial stage. In this research, we examine most recent proposed strategies with some limitations and potential improvements for future work. The data is collected from Kaggle (University of California) *. Researchers highlight how important is to identify important features that enhance outcomes suggested by recent methods. Six MLA were used in this paper such as Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive Bayes (NB), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF) and K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN) were applied in Jupiter Notebook. Feature sets are selected using three feature selection methodologies such as information gain-based selection, correlation-based selection and sequential feature selection. On these feature subsets a variety of MLA are applied and optimal feature subset is chosen based on their performance. Finally a DT is suggested as the top model among the top six performances. Restoring the patient's occlusal function of broken teeth is a challenging task since tooth texture is very complex, a slight deviation may affect the patient's chewing function and temporomandibular joint function. Therefore, how to efficiently repair the complete shape and real surface of the crown is a critical problem. Traditional technologies are hard to restore complete shape of the dental crown or lack inlay surface details, due to dataset limitations and complexity of missing parts. In this paper, we propose a multi-view crown restoration framework MVDC based on contrastive learning. Specifically, MVDC contains: 1) a multi-view generator with a specially designed loss measurement by using contrastive learning;2) a multi-scale discriminator mechanism able to consider relation and consistency between teeth from different scales;3) an occlusal groove extraction network to extract the occlusal details. We conducted extensive experiments on existing public datasets. The results showcase the superior performance of MVDC. © 2025 IEEE.
