The configuration complexity and code size of an automated testing framework may grow to a point that the tester itself becomes a significant software artifact, prone to poor configuration and implementation errors. Unfortunately, testing the tester by using old versions of the software under test (SUT) may be impractical or impossible: test framework changes may have been motivated by interface changes in the tested system, or fault detection may become too expensive in terms of computing time to justify running until errors are detected on older versions of the software. We propose the use of path coverage measures as a "quick and dirty" method for detecting many faults in complex test frameworks. We also note the possibility of using techniques developed to diversify state-space searches in model checking to diversify test focus, and an associated classification of tester changes into focus-changing and non-focus-changing modifications. The basic operation of Delay Tolerant Sensor Network (DTSN) is to finish pervasive data gathering in networks with intermittent connectivity, while the publish/subscribe (Pub/Sub for short) paradigm is used to deliver events from a source to interested clients in an asynchronous way. Recently, to extend a Pub/Sub system in DTSN has become a promising topic. However, due to the unique characteristic of frequent partitioning in DTSN, to extend a Pub/Sub system in DTSN is a considerably difficult and challenging problem, and there is no good solution to it in existing works. To adapt Pub/Sub systems to DTSN, we propose CED, a community-based event delivery protocol. In our design, event delivery is based on several unchanged communities, which are formed by sensor nodes in the network according to their connectivity. CED consists of two components: Event delivery and queue management. In event delivery, events in a community are delivered to mobile subscribers once a subscriber comes into the community, for improving the data delivery ratio. The queue management employs both the event successful delivery time and the event survival time to decide whether an event should be delivered or dropped for minimizing the transmission overhead. The effectiveness of CED is demonstrated through comprehensive simulation studies. © 2009 IEEE.

Vehicle-to-vehicle communication among vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) plays an important role in providing a high level of safety and convenience to drivers. Geographic routing protocol has been identified to be suitable for VANETs because of the special nature of such networks, e.g., frequently changed network topology and high dynamic mobility. There is considerable functional research about geographic routing, but the node location security issues have not been vastly concentrated on so far. While selecting every hop, the performance and security can be impacted severely by false position because of the position information importance for geographic routing. Making use of directional antennas, we propose a novel detection mechanism capable of recognizing nodes faking about their positions in beacon message. By checking through which directional antenna beacon messages are received, ones' neighborhood can be easily divided into two groups. In addition, combined with the three malicious node detection rules, nodes can efficiently detect malicious nodes around them after exchanging neighbors grouping information with each others. As the evaluation based on simulations shows, our position verification system can detect malicious nodes successfully and can prevent attacks on geographic routing by false position.

Performance Analysis of Sub-Rating for Handoff Calls in HCN

Hierarchical Cellular Networks (HCN) offer more efficient channel utilization and better quality of service (QoS) under the high tele-traffic condition compared to the single-tier system. One of the important measures of QoS in HCN as in any single-tier system is the handoff dropping rate. Although the existing approaches such as guard channel and queuing can reduce forced termination probability, they also result in higher new call blocking probability. The channel sub-rating strategy has found to be an effective technique to reduce the handoff force termination probability while preserving the new call blocking probability in a single-tier system. In this paper, we propose a new call admission control scheme for HCN based on the channel sub-rating. Analytic models based on 1-D Markov process in microcell and 2-D Markov process in macrocell are developed. Experimental results show that our scheme achieves lower blocking and forced termination probabilities compared to the traditional guard channel scheme. The effect of channel sub-rating on the voice quality degradation is also studied. Results demonstrate that we can establish a good balance between the forced termination probability and the voice quality degradation by varying the number of sub-ratable full-rate channels.

The delay tolerant mobile sensor network (DTMSN) is a new type of sensor network for pervasive information gathering. Although similar to conventional sensor networks in hardware components, DTMSN owns some unique characteristics such as sensor mobility, intermittent connectivity, etc. Therefore, traditional data gathering methods can not be applied to DTMSN. In this paper, we propose an efficient motion tendency-based data delivery scheme (MTAD) tailored for DTMSN. By using sink broadcast instead of GPS, MTAD obtains the information about the nodal motion tendency with small overhead. The information can then be used to evaluate the node's effective delivery ability and provide guidance for message transmission. MTAD also employs the message survival time to effectively manage message queues. Our simulation results show that, compared with other DTMSN data delivering approaches, MTAD achieves not only a relatively longer network lifetime but also a higher message delivery ratio with lower transmission overhead and data delivery delay.

Output-input feedback (OIF) Elman neural network is a dynamic feedback network. An improved model is proposed based on the OIF Elman neural network by introducing direction profit factor in this paper. Moreover, the proposed model is applied to forecast the composite index of stock. In addition, some comparisons are also made when the stock exchange is performed using prediction results from OIF Elman neural network. Simulation results show that the proposed model is feasible and effective in the finance field. It shows that the proposed model can not only improve the forecasting precision evidently and possess the characteristic of quick convergence but also provide a good reference tool for investors to obtain more profits.

Nowadays, there are commercial tools that allow automatic generation of text summaries. However, it is not known the quality of the generated summaries and the method that it is used for the generation of the summaries using these commercial tools. This paper provides a study about the commercial tools such as Copernic Summarizer, Microsoft Office Word Summarizer 2003 and Microsoft Office Word Summarizer 2007, with the objective to detect which of them gives the summaries more similar to those made by a human. Furthermore, the comparison between commercial tools and state-of-the-art methods is realized. The experiments were carried out using DUC-2002 standard collection which contains 567 news in English.

The Genomic Standards Consortium (GSC) hosted the first day of this Special Interest Group (SIG) at ISMB to continue exploring the bottlenecks and emerging solutions for obtaining biological insights through large-scale comparative analysis of metagenomic datasets. The M3 SIG included invited and selected talks and a panel discussion at the end of the day involving the plenary speakers. A system for self tuning of on-die terminators in current mode off-chip signaling is presented. The proposed method is based on an algorithm that uses the sign of the impedance matching error and the sign of the coupling branch current to perform the self tuning operation. The circuit implementation of the system is described and computer simulations at the transistor level are presented for process, temperature and load impedance variations.
