AGCLNDA: Enhancing the Prediction of ncRNA-Drug Resistance Association Using Adaptive Graph Contrastive Learning

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), which do not encode proteins, have been implicated in chemotherapy resistance in cancer treatment. Given the high costs and time requirements of traditional biological experiments, there is an increasing need for computational models to predict ncRNA-drug resistance associations. In this study, we introduce AGCLNDA, an adaptive contrastive learning method designed to uncover these associations. AGCLNDA begins by constructing a bipartite graph from existing ncRNA-drug resistance data. It then utilizes a light graph convolutional network (LightGCN) to learn vector representations for both ncRNAs and drugs. The method assesses resistance association scores through the inner product of these vectors. To tackle data sparsity and noise, AGCLNDA incorporates learnable augmented view generators and denoised view generators, which provide contrastive views for enhanced data augmentation. Comparative experiments demonstrate that AGCLNDA outperforms five other advanced methods. Case studies further validate AGCLNDA as an effective tool for predicting ncRNA-drug resistance associations. An Unbiased Fuzzy Weighted Relative Error Support Vector Machine for Reverse Prediction of Concrete Components

Concrete is a vital component in modern construction, prized for its strength, durability, and versatility. Accurately determining the quantities of concrete components is crucial in civil engineering applications to optimize resources (e.g., manpower and financial resources). In this article, we propose an unbiased fuzzy-weighted relative error support vector machine (UFW-RE-SVM) for reverse prediction of concrete components. First, we add an unbiased term to the target function of UFW-RE-SVM for obtaining an unbiased model. Second, we design a fuzzy-weighted operation to indicate sample importance by incorporating the fuzzy membership values into the UFW-RE-SVM. The nth root operation is introduced to address the exponential explosion issue in the fuzzy-weighted operation. Finally, considering the UFW-RE-SVM is sensitive to its hyperparameters for multioutput prediction, the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is utilized for hyperparameter optimization for its effectiveness in optimization tasks. We design the fitness function based on the results from multiple components to balance the performance of multioutput predictions. Experimental results show that the performance of our proposed model outperforms existing works in predicting concrete components in terms of mean absolute relative error, standard deviation, and root mean square error. Further, the statistical test shows the WOA and two other metaheuristics can significantly improve the prediction performance. This indicates that the unbiased term, fuzzy-weighted operation, and WOA are effective for improving the proposed model for reverse prediction concrete components. With these promising results, the proposed model could provide decision-makers with a valuable tool for determining concrete component quantities based on desired concrete qualities. © 2020 IEEE.

Optimized COVID-19 detection using sparse deep learning models from multimodal imaging data

This paper explores the global spread of the COVID-19 virus since 2019, impacting 219 countries worldwide. Despite the absence of a definitive cure, the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) methods for disease diagnosis has demonstrated commendable effectiveness in promptly diagnosing patients and curbing infection transmission. The study introduces a deep learning-based model tailored for COVID-19 detection, leveraging three prevalent medical imaging modalities: computed tomography (CT), chest X-ray (CXR), and Ultrasound. Various deep Transfer Learning Convolutional Neural Network-based (CNN) models have undergone assessment for each imaging modality. For each imaging modality, this study has selected the two most accurate models based on evaluation metrics such as accuracy and loss. Additionally, efforts have been made to prune unnecessary weights from these models to obtain more efficient and sparse models. By fusing these pruned models, enhanced performance has been achieved. The models have undergone rigorous training and testing using publicly available real-world medical datasets, focusing on classifying these datasets into three distinct categories: Normal, COVID-19 Pneumonia, and non-COVID-19 Pneumonia. The primary objective is to develop an optimized and swift model through strategies like Transfer Learning, Ensemble Learning, and reducing network complexity, making it easier for storage and transfer. The results of the trained network on test data exhibit promising outcomes. The accuracy of these models on the CT scan, X-ray, and ultrasound datasets stands at 99.4%, 98.9%, and 99.3%, respectively. Moreover, these models’ sizes have been substantially reduced and optimized by 51.93%, 38.00%, and 69.07%, respectively. In multi-institutional patient data sharing scenarios, maintaining fine-grained access control while safeguarding privacy and adapting to real-world environments is crucial. Traditional attribute-based encryption (ABE) schemes may inadvertently expose sensitive information through access policies and lack support for dynamic policy updates. To tackle these challenges, this paper proposes an ABE scheme with partially hidden access policies to bolster privacy protection for encrypted data stored on servers across healthcare institutions. Our scheme also facilitates access policy updates, ensuring accurate and efficient adaptation to evolving real-world needs. Through rigorous security analysis, we validate the efficacy of our approach in safeguarding patient data integrity, confidentiality, and adaptability to dynamic environments. Our scheme offers a robust solution for secure and efficient multi-institutional patient data sharing, supporting fine-grained access control, privacy preservation, and dynamic policy updates. © 2024 IEEE.

OCRBench: on the hidden mystery of OCR in large multimodal models

Large models have recently played a dominant role in natural language processing and multimodal vision-language learning. However, their effectiveness in text-related visual tasks remains relatively unexplored. In this paper, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of large multimodal models, such as GPT4V and Gemini, in various text-related visual tasks including text recognition, scene text-centric visual question answering(VQA), document-oriented VQA, key information extraction(KIE), and handwritten mathematical expression recognition(HMER). To facilitate the assessment of optical character recognition(OCR) capabilities in large multimodal models, we propose OCRBench, a comprehensive evaluation benchmark. OCRBench contains 29 datasets, making it the most comprehensive OCR evaluation benchmark available. Furthermore, our study reveals both the strengths and weaknesses of these models, particularly in handling multilingual text, handwritten text, non-semantic text, and mathematical expression *** importantly, the baseline results presented in this study could provide a foundational framework for the conception and assessment of innovative strategies targeted at enhancing zero-shot multimodal *** evaluation pipeline and benchmark are available at https://***/Yuliang-Liu/Multimodal OCR.

Characterizing the app recommendation relationships in the iOS app store: a complex network's perspective

Mobile apps have become widely adopted in our daily lives. To facilitate app discovery, most app markets provide recommendations for users, which may significantly impact how apps are accessed. However, little has been known about the underlying relationships and how they reflect(or affect) user behaviors. To fill this gap, we characterize the app recommendation relationships in the i OS app store from the perspective of the complex network. We collect a dataset containing over 1.3 million apps and 50 million app recommendations. This dataset enables us to construct a complex network that captures app recommendation relationships. Through this, we explore the recommendation relationships between mobile apps and how these relationships reflect or affect user behavior patterns. The insights gained from our research can be valuable for understanding typical user behaviors and identifying potential policy-violating apps.
