Behaviour-diverse automatic penetration testing:a coverage-based deep reinforcement learning approach

Reinforcement Learning(RL)is gaining importance in automating penetration testing as it reduces human effort and increases ***,given the rapidly expanding scale of modern network infrastructure,the limited testing scale and monotonous strategies of existing RLbased automated penetration testing methods make them less effective in practical *** this paper,we present CLAP(Coverage-Based Reinforcement Learning to Automate Penetration Testing),an RL penetration testing agent that provides comprehensive network security assessments with diverse adversary testing behaviours on a massive *** employs a novel neural network,namely the coverage mechanism,to address the enormous and growing action spaces in large *** also utilizes a Chebyshev decomposition critic to identify various adversary strategies and strike a balance between *** results across various scenarios demonstrate that CLAP outperforms state-of-the-art methods,by further reducing attack operations by nearly 35%.CLAP also provides enhanced training efficiency and stability and can effectively perform pen-testing over large-scale networks with up to 500 ***,the proposed agent is also able to discover pareto-dominant strategies that are both diverse and effective in achieving multiple objectives.

The rapid growth of mobile applications, combined with an increasing reliance on these apps for a variety of purposes, has prompted serious concerns about user privacy and data security. This study aims to assess the privacy practices, data handling methods, and security vulnerabilities of mobile apps in a variety of categories, including social media, e-commerce, health and fitness, and financial management. This study identifies major privacy and security issues by examining privacy policies and terms of service, as well as how these apps handle sensitive data. The study also examines free and premium apps' privacy procedures, taking into account the implications for user data protection. The findings illustrate differences in data handling and security standards across different app categories, highlighting the importance of transparent privacy policies, strong security mechanisms, and limited data sharing to protect user information. The research helps to define standards and best practices for promoting secure app activity, increasing user confidence, and guaranteeing a safer digital environment. © 2025 IEEE.

The key-value separation is renowned for its significant mitigation of the write amplification inherent in traditional LSM trees. However, KV separation potentially increases performance overhead in the management of Value region, especially for garbage collection (GC) operation that is used to reduce the redundant space occupation. In response, many efforts have been made to optimize the GC mechanism for KV separation. However, our analysis indicates that such solution based on trade-offs between CPU and I/O overheads cannot simultaneously satisfy the three requirements of KV separated systems in terms of throughput, tail latency, and space usage. This limitation hinders their real-world application. In this paper, we introduce AegonKV, a "three-birds-one-stone" solution that comprehensively enhances the throughput, tail latency, and space usage of KV separated systems. AegonKV first proposes a SmartSSD-based GC offloading mechanism to enable asynchronous GC operations without competing with LSM read/write for bandwidth or CPU. AegonKV leverages offload-friendly data structures and hardware/software execution logic to address the challenges of GC offloading. Experiments demonstrate that AegonKV achieves the largest throughput improvement of 1.28-3.3 times, a significant reduction of 37%-66% in tail latency, and 15%-85% in space overhead compared to existing KV separated systems. © 2025 FAST. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a widely accepted standard for parallel computing on distributed ***, MPI implementations can contain defects that impact the reliability and performance of parallelapplications. Detecting and correcting these defects is crucial, yet there is a lack of published models specificallydesigned for correctingMPI defects. To address this, we propose a model for detecting and correcting MPI defects(DC_MPI), which aims to detect and correct defects in various types of MPI communication, including blockingpoint-to-point (BPTP), nonblocking point-to-point (NBPTP), and collective communication (CC). The defectsaddressed by the DC_MPI model include illegal MPI calls, deadlocks (DL), race conditions (RC), and messagemismatches (MM). To assess the effectiveness of the DC_MPI model, we performed experiments on a datasetconsisting of 40 MPI codes. The results indicate that the model achieved a detection rate of 37 out of 40 codes,resulting in an overall detection accuracy of 92.5%. Additionally, the execution duration of the DC_MPI modelranged from 0.81 to 1.36 s. These findings show that the DC_MPI model is useful in detecting and correctingdefects in MPI implementations, thereby enhancing the reliability and performance of parallel applications. TheDC_MPImodel fills an important research gap and provides a valuable tool for improving the quality ofMPI-basedparallel computing systems.

The integration of renewable energy sources inherently reduces power system inertia, which can result in a higher rate of change of frequency. Moreover, reduced inertia also affects the small-signal stability and controllability of the interconnected synchronous generators (SGs). In this paper, we use the linear state-space model to show the impact of SGs' inertia constants on eigenvalues, participation factors, and Gramian-based controllability metrics. Both a single-machine and an IEEE 9-bus system were analyzed. The results for the IEEE 9-bus system with three SGs show an optimal range of inertia constants to increase the damping of a specific mode and increase controllability. Thus, a framework for multi-objective optimization combining large-signal stability, small-signal stability, and controllability is proposed that can be applied to grid-forming converters. © 2024 IEEE.

A Hybrid Method to Measure Distribution Consistency of Mixed-Attribute Datasets

Random sample partition (RSP) is a newly developed data management and processing model for Big Data processing and analysis. To apply the RSP model for Big Data computation tasks, it is very important to measure the distribution consistency of different datasets. Existing measurement methods for continuous-attribute and discrete-attribute datasets cannot directly deal with mixed-attribute datasets. In this article, we design a hybrid method to measure the distribution consistency among different mixed-attribute datasets by using a multilayer extreme learning machine (MLELM) and the generalized maximum mean discrepancy (GMMD) criterion, abbreviated as MLELM-GMMD. MLELM is first used to transform original mixed-attribute datasets into corresponding deep encoding datasets. Then, the GMMD criterion is applied to check the distribution consistency of the deep encoding datasets. Four experiments have been done to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of MLELM-GMMD, i.e., the impact of MLELM on the amount of information during mixed-attribute data transformation, the impact of MLELM on distributions of mixed-attribute data, the distribution consistencies of RSP and non-RSP data blocks, and the comparison with other measurement methods. Experimental results show that the proposed MLELM-GMMD method can measure the distribution consistency of mixed-attribute datasets more accurately than one-hot encoding-based methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are developing so fast that they can bring revolutionary changes in ecological sustainability, public health, and community welfare. In contrast, the present waste management system has a set of inefficiencies due to some challenges, such as poor waste stream segregation, limited real-time data analysis, and negligible integration of recent technology. These challenges lead to environmental degradation, public health hazards, and inefficient usage of resources. This research targets these challenges by designing an IWM framework like AI-IoT for smart waste management. The system employs AI models powered by IoT sensors for efficient waste collection, classification, and optimization of recycling schedules. CNN (convolutional neural networks) with transfer learning enabled by Res-Net provides high-accuracy image recognition, which can be used for waste classification. Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) allow multilingual users to interact and communicate properly in any linguistic environment. Data collected from IoT-enabled smart bins is transmitted in real-time to a central control system for dynamic decision-making and follow-up analysis. A pilot exercise to verify the system's effectiveness was implemented in metropolitan settings to show the transformation: landfill dependency was decreased by 30 %, recycling efficiency was greatly increased to 90 %, and thus the cost of waste management was optimized. At the same time, environmental health inequity, causing pathogen-related threats, was reduced by 35 %. The model has an accuracy of 96.8 %. The features of the proposed framework not only provide solutions to the existing inefficiencies but also enhance scalability, cost-effectiveness, and global environmental standardization. Sentiment analysis has been studied by several internet companies that offer materials based on human emotions expressed through social media. Many people use social media to post and share their thoughts and feelings. The sentiment analysis standard assorts a sentence with all forms of emotions, each of which has an intensity. This study includes a sentiment analysis of diverse perspectives on social topics that are trending on social media, along with a recommendation system. This method recommends related content to viewers based on their current statement or issue. The algorithm also suggests customized video sets to users based on their social media activity, such as diverse perspectives on a particular social problem about which they actively express their thoughts on social media. Asynchronous Graph Neural Network (AGNN) has attracted much research attention because it enables faster convergence speed than the synchronous GNN. However, existing software/hardware solutions suffer from redundant computation overhead and excessive off-chip communications for AGNN due to irregular state propagations along the dependency chains between vertices. This paper proposes a chain-driven asynchronous accelerator, CDA-GNN, for efficient AGNN inference. Specifically, CDA-GNN proposes a chain-driven asynchronous execution approach into novel accelerator design to regularize the vertex state propagations for fewer redundant computations and off-chip communications and also designs a chain-aware data caching method to improve data locality for AGNN. We have implemented and evaluated CDA-GNN on a Xilinx Alveo U280 FPGA card. Compared with the cutting-edge software solutions (i.e., Dorylus and AMP) and hardware solutions (i.e., BlockGNN and FlowGNN), CDA-GNN improves the performance of AGNN inference by an average of 1,173x, 182.4x, 10.2x, and 7.9x and saves energy by 2,241x, 242.2x, 12.4x, and 8.9x, respectively. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).
