Engagement in learning is crucial in maintaining student eagerness as fuel for student learning to achieve learning success. In e-Learning settings, engagement also plays an im-portant role as a factor influencing student learning success as students are regulating themselves during learning one-on-one using computer devices. Failing to detect student engagement may result in unsuccessful learning. In extreme cases, students may disengage and learning purpose cannot be achieved. This research aims to detect user engagement in e-Learning settings by using a deep learning approach with a feature extraction method. The dataset used in this study is the DAiSEE dataset. The dataset is in the form of videos and is extracted into frames and specific facial features. The facial area was extracted using the Mediapipe Library. The features include 1434 3D landmark features, 52 action unit features, one depth estimation feature, and three head pose estimation features. This research also conducts image selection, which selecting frames with an interval of 15 in the train, validation, and test folders. The multi-stacked Convolutional Neural Network model was used to classify four levels of engagements. The results were compared to the existing approach in engagement detection. The untuned proposed model achieved an accuracy of 48.95%, while the tuned proposed model achieved an accuracy of 52.94%. The proposed model is able to compete with state-of-the-art methods using a less complex model. Even so, the model still cannot learn labels perfectly due to a very imbalanced dataset and a possibility of model overfitting. This research is expected to be useful for educational institutions and the e-Learning field in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) has enabled the creation of new solutions to real-world problems, including digitalization and real-time monitoring. Plenty of research has been done in applying IoT schemes in various areas, such as Industry 4.0, smart cities or, as in the case of this paper, smart agriculture. One of the main problems in rural areas is the Internet coverage. In many cases, the infrastructure is very poor, and mountainous terrain further complicates the communication among devices. In this paper, we develop an IoT framework based on the Long Range (LoRa) wireless technology, specially designed to solve this issue (i.e., the lack of communication coverage). In particular, we have endowed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with a LoRa gateway to improve the coverage of LoRa devices in mountainous regions. Our experiments show that not only the distance between sender and receiver but also both the height of the UAV and the Fresnel zone clearance are critical factors for communications performance in mountainous areas. © 2023 IEEE.

SG-NeRF:Sparse-Input Generalized Neural Radiance Fields for Novel View Synthesis

Traditional neural radiance fields for rendering novel views require intensive input images and pre-scene optimization,which limits their practical *** propose a generalization method to infer scenes from input images and perform high-quality rendering without pre-scene optimization named SG-NeRF(Sparse-Input Generalized Neural Radiance Fields).Firstly,we construct an improved multi-view stereo structure based on the convolutional attention and multi-level fusion mechanism to obtain the geometric features and appearance features of the scene from the sparse input images,and then these features are aggregated by multi-head attention as the input of the neural radiance *** strategy of utilizing neural radiance fields to decode scene features instead of mapping positions and orientations enables our method to perform cross-scene training as well as inference,thus enabling neural radiance fields to generalize for novel view synthesis on unseen *** tested the generalization ability on DTU dataset,and our PSNR(peak signal-to-noise ratio)improved by 3.14 compared with the baseline method under the same input *** addition,if the scene has dense input views available,the average PSNR can be improved by 1.04 through further refinement training in a short time,and a higher quality rendering effect can be obtained.

This paper aims at applying optimal control principles to investigate optimal vaccination strategies in different phases of a pandemic. Background of the study is that many countries have started their vaccination procedures against the COVID-19 disease in the beginning of 2021, but supply shortages for the vaccines prevented that everyone could be vaccinated immediately. At the beginning of 2022, in contrast, the vaccine supply was ample, but the effectiveness of different existing vaccines to avoid infection by new virus variants was in doubt, as well as the acceptance of booster doses decreased over time. To account for these effects, two formulations of optimization tasks based on different epidemic models are proposed in this paper. The solution of these tasks determines optimal distribution strategies for available vaccines, and optimized vaccination schemes to reduce the need of booster doses for later phase. With the rapidly increasing technology and globalization, the internet has become an inevitable part of one's day-to-day life. The use of a sophisticated recommendation system has revolutionized the way consumers interact with online shopping platforms. To keep in pace with the emerging technology, every field needs to be digitalized and made up to date. In this context, the commercial shops and dealers too need to upgrade their traditional shopping methods. The old conventional methods don't always serve the new generation. The transition to online mode of shopping has made it mandatory for retailers and producers to customize according to the customer's requirement and providing various options than what was possible before. The focus in this system is to increase customer engagement, enhance the customer shopping experience, and boost sales by suggesting relevant products based on a user's browsing and purchase history, these products that are most likely to interest and satisfy individual customers.
