In the pursuit of knowledge and innovation, academic research stands as a cornerstone of intellectual progress. However, the integrity of this process is susceptible to malpractice, raising profound ethical concerns. This research paper delves into the nuanced landscape of malpractice and ethical considerations within the realm of academic research, aiming to shed light on the challenges that undermine the credibility and reliability of scholarly endeavours. The study explores various forms of malpractice, including plagiarism, data fabrication, and authorship disputes, which have the potential to erode the foundations of academic integrity. Through a combination of literature reviews, case studies, and expert interviews, the research seeks to identify patterns and motivations behind such malpractices. The findings reveal that systematic solutions are necessary to address these issues, and propose the integration of advanced technological tools to enhance ethical oversight. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse on ethics in academic research by providing comprehensive insights and recommendations to uphold ethical standards. © 2024 IEEE.

Miniaturized spectrometers, owing to their compact dimensions, high sensitivity, and low cost, have been extensively applied in environmental monitoring, biomedical diagnostics, industrial inspection, and other fields. However, conventional miniature spectrometers often face challenges in simultaneously achieving high spectral resolution, miniaturization, and a high degree of integration. As a pivotal component in integrated optics, the Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) possesses advantages such as exceptional resolution, broad spectral bandwidth, and superior integrability, thus serving as a highly effective means for the design and realization of miniature spectrometers. Here, a highly uniform visible light arrayed waveguide grating with a central wavelength of 633nm was designed and fabricated. The device was based on a 300 nm silicon nitride platform, with the waveguide width of 300nm. The beam diverges at the input star coupler, then propagates through the arrayed waveguide, and finally converges on the image plane of the output star coupler. There are 4 output channels with a channel spacing of 10nm, and the spectral resolution is 5nm. This configuration can provide a uniform spectral output with a high stability, making it suitable for applications in the field of spectral analysis. © 2024 SPIE. All rights reserved.

Temporal knowledge graph (TKG) extrapolation aims to predict future unknown events (facts) based on historical information, and has attracted considerable attention due to its great practical significance. Accurate representations (embeddings) of entities and relations form the basis of TKG extrapolation. Recent work has been devoted to improving the rationality of entity representations. However, on the one hand, ignoring relation modeling results in incomplete relation representations;therefore, some approaches aggregate only immediately adjacent entities of relations, but this can lead to the "message islands"problem of relation modeling. On the other hand, ignoring the association constraints between relations and entities can make the embeddings of both relations and entities prone to overfitting. To address the abovementioned challenges, we propose an advanced method, namely, RETIA. For the former issue, we generate twin hyperrelation subgraphs for each historical subgraph and then aggregate both the adjacent entities and relations in the hyperrelation subgraphs through a graph convolutional network (GCN). About the latter concern, we propose a twin-interact module (TIM), which provides communication channels for relation aggregation and entity aggregation during the evolution of the historical sequence. Experiments conducted on five public datasets show that RETIA has made great improvements across several evaluation metrics. SCSegamba: Lightweight Structure-Aware Vision Mamba for Crack Segmentation in Structures

Pixel-level segmentation of structural cracks across various scenarios remains a considerable challenge. Current methods encounter challenges in effectively modeling crack morphology and texture, facing challenges in balancing segmentation quality with low computational resource usage. To overcome these limitations, we propose a lightweight Structure-Aware Vision Mamba Network (SCSegamba), capable of generating high-quality pixel-level segmentation maps by leveraging both the morphological information and texture cues of crack pixels with minimal computational cost. Specifically, we developed a Structure-Aware Visual State Space module (SAVSS), which incorporates a lightweight Gated Bottleneck Convolution (GBC) and a Structure-Aware Scanning Strategy (SASS). The key insight of GBC lies in its effectiveness in modeling the morphological information of cracks, while the SASS enhances the perception of crack topology and texture by strengthening the continuity of semantic information between crack pixels. Experiments on crack benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms other state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods, achieving the highest performance with only 2.8M parameters. On the multi-scenario dataset, our method reached 0.8390 in F1 score and 0.8479 in mIoU. The code is available at https://***/Karl1109/SCSegamba. © 2025, CC BY.

The rapid advancement of new technologies has significantly impacted the solar energy industry. This study explores how innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced materials affect the performance and adoption of solar panels. Using data from global solar panel manufacturers and adoption rates from 2010 to 2023, we aim to show how these technologies improve efficiency, reduce costs, and drive widespread adoption. Our findings indicate that integrating AI and IoT into solar panel systems significantly boosts efficiency by optimizing energy output and predictive maintenance. Advanced materials, especially in photovoltaic cells, have greatly improved energy conversion rates. These advancements lower production and maintenance costs and enhance the reliability and lifespan of solar panels, making them more attractive to consumers and investors. Regions with supportive regulations and financial incentives see higher adoption rates and better performance improvements. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers, highlighting the importance of technological innovation in achieving sustainable energy goals. By addressing key factors that influence solar panel performance and adoption, this study contributes to the broader discussion on renewable energy development and the transition to a low carbon economy. Future research should focus on long-term studies to assess the lasting impacts of these technologies on the solar energy market. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to over-abundant information on the Web, information filtering becomes a key task for online users to obtain relevant suggestions and how to extract the most related item is always a key topic for researchers in various fields. In this paper, we adopt tools used to analyze complex networks to evaluate user reputation and item quality. In our proposed Accumulative Time Based Ranking (ATR) algorithm, we take into account the growth record of the network to identify the evolution of the reputation of users and the quality of items, by incorporating two behavior weighting factors which can capture the hidden facts on reputation and quality dynamics for each user and item respectively. Our proposed ATR algorithm mainly combines the iterative approach to rank user reputation and item quality with temporal dependence compared with other reputation evaluation methods. We show that our algorithm outperforms other benchmark ranking algorithms in terms of precision and robustness on empirical datasets from various online retailers and the citation datasets among research publications. Therefore, our proposed method has the capability to effectively evaluate user reputation and item quality.

An increasing population demands more food, but the available resources are shrinking.
