The Internet Of Things (IoT) is an emerging paradigm representing a network of infrastructure connecting different types of devices in different places. Recently, IoT-based Conversational systems gained more attention, providing users with a new human-computer interaction mode. These new systems allow users to interact with the IoT ecosystem through a virtual assistant. They also heavily rely on Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques for intelligent and efficient communication. Understanding the user's needs is the first step toward a more humanized IoT interaction system. This can be achieved using Natural language understanding (NLU) modules. Slot Filling is one of the core sub-tasks in NLU. It is an active research area focusing on extracting attribute values from the user's utterance. In this study, we propose an LSTM-based model for slot filling. The model benefits from contextual embeddings extracted from the BERT transformer model, the attention mechanism, and the conditional random field (CRF) that is known to model strong dependence among adjacent tags in the output sequence. Experiments show that our model achieved competitive results on two widely used benchmark datasets. © 2022 IEEE.

Water leakage in distribution networks is a significant challenge, especially in regions with limited infrastructure like Huancayo, Peru, where losses account for 32.82% of the distributed volume. This study introduces a machine learning-based approach to detect leaks using four algorithms: Autoencoder LSTM, Isolation Forest, One-Class SVM, and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). The methodology involved preprocessing historical consumption data (2018–2024) into 12-month temporal sequences per client and evaluating the models based on F1 Score, Precision, and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). Among the algorithms, the Autoencoder LSTM demonstrated superior performance with the highest precision (0.89) and the lowest MAE (0.00402). Its robustness in high-variability contexts enables early and reliable leak detection, providing a cost-effective solution for optimizing water management in resource-constrained environments.

Mobile and Web-of-Things (WoT) devices at the network edge account for more than half of the world's web traffic, making a great data source for various machine learning (ML) applications, particularly federated learning (FL) which offers a promising solution to privacy-preserving ML feeding on these data. FL allows edge mobile and WoT devices to train a shared global ML model under the orchestration of a central parameter server. In the real world, due to resource heterogeneity, these edge devices often train different versions of models (e.g., VGG-16 and VGG-19) or different ML models (e.g., VGG and ResNet) for the same ML task (e.g., computer vision and speech recognition). Existing FL schemes have assumed that participating edge devices share a common model architecture, and thus cannot facilitate FL across edge devices with heterogeneous ML model architectures. We explored this architecture heterogeneity challenge and found that FL can and should accommodate these edge devices to improve model accuracy and accelerate model training. This paper presents our findings and FlexiFed, a novel scheme for FL across edge devices with heterogeneous model architectures, and three model aggregation strategies for accommodating architecture heterogeneity under FlexiFed. Experiments with four widely-used ML models on four public datasets demonstrate 1) the usefulness of FlexiFed;and 2) that compared with the state-of-the-art FL scheme, FlexiFed improves model accuracy by 2.6%-9.7% and accelerates model convergence by 1.24 × -4.04 ×. © 2023 ACM.

In this paper, the problem of vehicle service mode selection (sensing, communication, or both) and vehicle connections within terahertz (THz) enabled joint sensing and communications over vehicular networks is studied. The considered network consists of several service provider vehicles (SPVs) that can provide: 1) only sensing service, 2) only communication service, and 3) both services, sensing service request vehicles, and communication service request vehicles. Based on the vehicle network topology and their service accessibility, SPVs strategically select service request vehicles to provide sensing, communication, or both services. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem, aiming to maximize the number of successfully served vehicles by jointly determining the service mode of each SPV and its associated vehicles. To solve this problem, we propose a dynamic graph neural network (GNN) model that selects appropriate graph information aggregation functions according to the vehicle network topology, thus extracting more vehicle network information compared to traditional static GNNs that use fixed aggregation functions for different vehicle network topologies. Using the extracted vehicle network information, the service mode of each SPV and its served service request vehicles will be determined. Simulation results show that the proposed dynamic GNN based scheme can improve the number of successfully served vehicles by up to 17% compared to a GNN based algorithm with a fixed neural network model.

Medical report generation is crucial for clinical diagnosis and patient management, summarizing diagnoses and recommendations based on medical imaging. However, existing work often overlook the clinical pipeline involved in report writing, where physicians typically conduct an initial quick review followed by a detailed examination. Moreover, current alignment methods may lead to misaligned relationships. To address these issues, we propose DAMPER, a dual-stage framework for medical report generation that mimics the clinical pipeline of report writing in two stages. In the first stage, a MeSH-Guided Coarse-Grained Alignment (MCG) stage that aligns chest X-ray (CXR) image features with medical subject headings (MeSH) features to generate a rough keyphrase representation of the overall impression. In the second stage, a Hypergraph-Enhanced Fine-Grained Alignment (HFG) stage that constructs hypergraphs for image patches and report annotations, modeling high-order relationships within each modality and performing hypergraph matching to capture semantic correlations between image regions and textual phrases. Finally,the coarse-grained visual features, generated MeSH representations, and visual hypergraph features are fed into a report decoder to produce the final medical report. Extensive experiments on public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of DAMPER in generating comprehensive and accurate medical reports, outperforming state-of-the-art methods across various evaluation metrics. In 2020, a virus commences generating headlines all over the globe due to its unprecedented transmission from one person to another person. COVID-19 (stands for corona virus pandemic 2019) has been responsible for the thousands of deaths across so many countries such as Italy, America, India, Brazil, China, etc. No one is saved from this pandemic around millions of people gets affected by COVID-19 across the globe. Although, many elements are get affected by this and one of them is wearable devices for example smart watch, smart bracelet, smart shoes, a smart belt, etc. In this digitalization era, wearable devices are standing to face with the present COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, in this paper, we discussed about COVID-19 pandemic role behind its growth in the market, and what was its impact? This paper introduces the applications of wearable devices and provides a brief understanding of how does it play a role in fighting against the ongoing pandemic. These devices accredited remote health monitoring, screening, real-time tracking and better treatment without transmitting the virus from one person to another person, and infected person. Thus, it decreases the burden on the healthcare industry for protection and reducing the transmission of corona virus. Millions of human beings suffer from a respiratory illness that requires continuous monitoring to tackle this wearable device helps hospital staff to keep track of the breathing parameters of patients with corona virus and provides solutions to retrieve the patient's vital data with chronic disease. Hearing the news of growing patients affects the mindset of the rest of the people which increases stress level and anxiety. To overcome anxiety and stress level, wearable devices that tracks a person's heart rate variability (HRV). © 2021 IEEE.

Data security in conventional applications was only available at the application layer. Within the scope of the intended research, the safety of the merchandise is ensured. The deficiencies that are present in the security systems that are already in place have led to the realisation that a new security system is required. Considering that authentication is not present, the likelihood of decryption should be reduced. Establishing a decentralised security system is essential in order to protect against threats coming from a variety of digital networks. The new encryption standard is said to improve multilayer security, according to the claims. The material is split into two halves using this method, which also provides a reliable transmission mechanism. Because of the technology, hackers are unable to create vulnerabilities in the security system. There was a need for security in both the cloud and the edge environment in order to prevent intruders. Increasing the reliability and security of data transmission over a variety of networks was the motivation for the development of the two fish approach. Because of its security mechanism, it has been able to survive assaults from crackers and hackers. The paper that is being presented advises doing research on the safety of edge transmissions that are based on slicing. In order to prevent attackers from launching attacks from several networks, it is necessary to establish decentralised security. Layered security will help increase encryption standards, which is a significant benefit. Over the course of various investigations, computer security edge generators have been the focus of attention. Quite a few of them have already been extensively discussed. Depressive Disorders (DD) is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the world that may lead to suicide cases. To prevent the latter, ubiquitous early detection systems may be effective. Recent studies have since researched the development of such systems by exploiting several forms of data, including video, audio, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA), and passive sensing data using sensors embedded in mobile devices. To summarize the trends, opportunities, and existing challenges in this field, this study reviewed 15 papers to answer four research questions. EMA was the most popular data to be used in this task, but other approaches, such as using video, audio, and typing behaviors, may be considered due to the subjectivity of EMA. These data were typically recorded using smartphones and analyzed using Machine Learning (ML). However, most of the developed systems had yet to be implemented. Overall, it was concluded that further studies may need to explore usages of more objective data in multimodal approaches as well as consider using Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) to deploy these systems to provide more effective and efficient diagnoses. Future studies must also take into account the existing challenges of the data and infrastructures, such as the weaknesses of several data types, limitations of mobile devices, as well as the challenges of diagnosis approaches.
