The covid-19 pandemic and Economic Policy Uncertainty resulting from the shutdown of production, withdrawal of investments, enforcement of lockdowns and quarantines globally, have been directly affecting stock markets worldwide. This study is thus an attempt to analyse the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stock market behaviour in major affected economies. Moreover, the time frame was extended by using current data which investigate the impact of the virus during the boom and the blast phase in the country's most hit by the pandemic crisis such as China, Italy, UK and US. The frequency of the data is daily, and it dates from 3 January 2020 up to 10 February 2021. The considered time framework will give a deep insight into how stock markets behave in the case of an exogenous shock. The Dickey-Fuller Augmented Unit Root Test indicates that all the variables are stationary at first difference, which is one of the main conditions to have robust result, and the ARCH-LM test for the heteroskedasticity of the residuals, which show that all the probability values are significant, rejecting the null hypothesis of no ARCH effect. Based on the results of GARCH (1,1), we conclude that the change in stock markets volatility is positive and significant in China, Italy, UK and USA. This suggests that the impacts of COVID-19 outbreak and economic policy uncertainty on Stock Markets are a significant and Homogeneous across the studied countries, and the shock on FTSE Italia All Share has the longest time to vanish which makes it the riskiest to invest during this period, while the shock on SP500 USA has the shortest time to disappear meaning that it is safest Stock Market in this study. These findings have significant implications for policymakers, institutional and individual investors and Financial Markets analysts. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. All rights reserved.

An integration of satellites and terrestrial networks is crucial for enhancing performance of next generation communication systems. However, the networks are hindered by the long-distance path loss and security risks in dense urban environments. In this work, we propose a satellite-terrestrial covert communication system assisted by the aerial active simultaneous transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (AASTAR-RIS) to improve the channel capacity while ensuring the transmission covertness. Specifically, we first derive the minimal detection error probability (DEP) under the worst condition that the Warden has perfect channel state information (CSI). Then, we formulate an AASTAR-RIS-assisted satellite-terrestrial covert communication optimization problem (ASCCOP) to maximize the sum of the fair channel capacity for all ground users while meeting the strict covert constraint, by jointly optimizing the trajectory and active beamforming of the AASTAR-RIS. Due to the challenges posed by the complex and high-dimensional state-action spaces as well as the need for efficient exploration in dynamic environments, we propose a generative deterministic policy gradient (GDPG) algorithm, which is a generative deep reinforcement learning (DRL) method to solve the ASCCOP. Concretely, the generative diffusion model (GDM) is utilized as the policy representation of the algorithm to enhance the exploration process by generating diverse and high-quality samples through a series of denoising steps. Moreover, we incorporate an action gradient mechanism to accomplish the policy improvement of the algorithm, which refines the better state-action pairs through the gradient ascent. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach significantly outperforms important benchmarks, and also validate the performance and practicality under different algorithm parameters and environment settings. Colorectal cancer (CRC) represents a significant global health challenge, ranking among the leading causes of cancer-related morbidity and mortality worldwide. However, despite its high incidence and mortality, CRC is considered a most preventable cancer through a healthy lifestyle adoption that may impede the development of colorectal adenomas and their transition into malignant states. In this regard, although the notions of healthy living and behavioral pathways are well-known, population adherence and awareness in relation to cancer prevention are lacking. Moreover, the evaluation of their impact on biological CRC-related processes and risk via quantifiable biomarkers remains under research. In this regard, this paper presents the design and implementation strategy of a multi-center clinical study investigating the potential of a risk assessment and behavioral change framework for CRC prevention, delivered via a digital solution. Particularly, the DIOPTRA mobile app will integrate accessible risk assessment and personalized behavioral recommendations to empower users in shifting towards healthier lifestyles. Key features of the app will include behavioral questionnaires, risk assessment, personalized suggestions, health literacy, and a diary function to track behaviors and mild symptoms. Upon study enrollment, participants will receive personalized assessment and recommendations, before a follow-up that will investigate adherence, effects, and quality of life. Moreover, a biomarker-based evaluation will be integrated, based on an under-development minimally-invasive screening blood test. Overall, this study aims to highlight the importance of mHealth solutions for CRC prevention on a population level, as well as to establish clinical relevance by seeking to link behavioral change with novel CRC biomarkers.

Discrimination against different user groups has received growing attention in the recommendation field. To address this problem, existing works typically remove sensitive attributes that may cause discrimination through adversary learning to achieve fair recommendations. However, these approaches leverage all available interactions for learning user representations and overlook the fact that different interactions have varying relevance to users’ sensitive attributes. Ignoring this issue may weaken the effectiveness of adversary learning in removing sensitive attributes. To tackle this challenge, we propose a novel model called GS-FairRec, which distinguishes between user interactions to achieve better removal of sensitive attributes. The model consists of three modules: graph sampling-based representation learning, pseudo-user representation learning, and adversarial learning. Firstly, the graph sampling-based representation learning module removes some irrelevant neighbors from a user-item bipartite graph and employs a graph convolutional network (GCN) to learn user/item representations. Next, items that are relevant to a user’s sensitive information but do not match their preferences are defined as the user’s pseudo-interest items, which are leveraged to learn the pseudo-user representation. In the adversarial learning module, the user’s two kinds of representations are fused for adversarial learning to remove sensitive information. Additionally, we design a new metric to measure the model’s ability to remove sensitive attributes based on how a generated recommendation list discloses the user’s sensitive attributes. Finally, we conduct experiments on two real-world datasets, and our results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed model in fairness tasks.

Internet of Things (IoT) networks have been deployed widely because of contemporary methods in which devices communicate. Device authentication in IoT networks is a crucial requirement that poses challenges related to security vulnerabilities, power consumption, and maintenance overheads. While cryptographic techniques secure device communication;storing keys in Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) poses challenges for edge devices. Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) offer robust hardware-based authentication but introduce complexities such as hardware production and conservation expenses and susceptibility to aging effects. This paper proposes a novel scheme based on split learning, utilizing an encoder-decoder architecture at the device and server nodes to create a Virtual PUF (VPUF). The proposed VPUF reduces maintenance and power demands compared to the hardware PUF while enhancing security by transmitting latent space representations of responses between nodes. The obtained results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed VPUF scheme in modeling the behavior of the hardware-based PUF with added Gaussian noise. Furthermore, the authentication accuracy of the proposed scheme is 100%, as measured by the validation rate. This highlights the superior performance of the proposed scheme in emulating the capabilities of a hardware-based PUF while providing secure and efficient authentication in IoT networks. © 2024, The Authors. At the moment, digital documents are just as important as paper documents. As a result, authenticity is essential, especially in legal situations and digital forensics. As technology advances, these digital signature algorithms become weaker, necessitating the development of digital authentication schemes capable of withstanding current security threats. This study proposed a scheme based on an asymmetric key cryptosystem and the user's biometric credentials to generate keys for digital signatures. A single document can be signed by multiple signatories at the same time under this scheme. The primary goal of this article is to create a safe and cost-effective multiignature scheme. To create keys for document signing and verification, the Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm (EdDSA), especially Ed25519, is employed. The Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm is used with blockchain technology to sign crypto wallets. The Python implementation of a scheme that enables platform independence. We performed performance, security, and comparative analysis to ensure maximum usability. The article's main findings are that the Ed25519 algorithm can be used in blockchain. © 2023 Gauri Shankar et al.

Electronic Human Resource Management system (EHRMS) is a paperless-based system, which plays a vital role in facilitating organizational processes, overcoming all obstacles of a paper-based system, reducing cost, time, and efforts, enhancing the quality of services (QoS), and providing more accurate data. In addition, it is beneficial for competitive advantages and it eases the tasks of the HR managers to make decisions. In this paper, an efficient EHRMS is proposed, designed, and implemented. The system is called Enterprise Electronic University Human Resource Management system (EEUHRMS). The proposed system consists of fourteen modules that provide four groups of services. The first group is related to applicant services: Online Recruitment. The second group is related to staff services: Registration, Acknowledgements/Punishments, Annual Premium, Leaves, Leave Deduction, Archive, Dispatch, Extra Fees, Salary, and Service Summary. The third group is related to institutions and presidency services: Post and Statistics. While the fourth group is related to university services: Authentication and Statistics. The proposed system is evaluated by using the system Usability Scale (SUS) to get results via specific questionnaires that are checked by the university staff. The evaluation score of the questionnaire was about (85) which is considered a good result. A Low-Complexity Coding Scheme for NOMA

This work focuses on exploiting the constructive interference among different users’ data waveforms to introduce new coding and decoding techniques, which are specifically designed for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems. In this paper, a structured coding scheme is devised. In essence, the proposed technique focuses on finding a relationship between the sent users’ data waveforms and then uses this relationship in the decoding process at the receiving destination. It is worth pointing out that the proposed coding and decoding techniques exhibit better performance and reduced the complexity compared with the conventional uncoded NOMA. The complexity order evaluation shows that the proposed scheme attains a reduction in the required number of the floating point operations (FLOPs) of 5N and 6N at the second and third users, respectively, compared with that of the uncoded NOMA. Moreover, we have derived a closed-form expression for the bit-error rate (BER), which is verified using the Monte Carlo simulation. To demonstrate the practicality of the proposed system, the obtained results are compared with those of the uncoded and convolutional coding NOMA systems. Finally, the performance of the proposed system outperformed conventional systems by an average of 5 dB in the case of two users and an average of 15 dB in the case of three users in the same work environment. © 2022-11-28, CC BY.

The light quantum mechanism of PCR efficiency oscillation with gold nanoparticle concentration

The widespread application of nanomaterials in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology has opened new avenues for improving detection methods in the biomedical field. Recent experiments (Chem. Eur. J. 2023, e202203513) have revealed oscillatory behavior between PCR efficiency and the concentration of gold nanoparticles in the pM range, potentially linked to the long-range Coulomb interactions among charged colloidal particles and the quantum size effect of nanoparticle electronic states. Through Monte Carlo simulation, we discovered that the radial distribution function of gold nanoparticles in solution gradually exhibits peak characteristics with increasing charge, triggering coherent photon behavior in Rayleigh scattering within the solution, thereby influencing the efficiency of reusing released photons in the PCR chain reaction. The study demonstrates that the oscillation period aligns with the wavelength of downstream reaction photons, while their energy matches the width of energy levels near the Fermi level of gold nanoparticles. The latter can absorb and store electron states internally, promoting upstream PCR reactions through subsequent re-release, and compensating for energy deficiencies through the Boltzmann distribution of electrons.
