Reinforcement learning (RL) has made great success in recent years. Generally, the learning process requires a huge amount of interaction with the environment before an agent can achieve acceptable performance. This motivates many techniques, such as incorporating prior knowledge which is usually presented as experts' demonstration, and using a probability distribution to represent state-and-action values, to accelerate the learning process. The methods perform well when the prior knowledge is genuinely correct and no much change occurs to the learning environment. However, the requirement is not perfectly realistic in many complex applications. The demonstration knowledge may not reflect the true environment and even be full of noise. In this article, we introduce a dynamic distribution merging method to improve knowledge utilization in a general RL algorithm, namely Q-learning. The new method adapts a normal distribution to represent state-action values and merges the prior and learned knowledge in a discriminative way. We theoretically analyze the new learning method and demonstrate its empirical performance over multiple problem domains. © 2020 IEEE.

Virtualization enables the service providers (SPs) to logically partition the resources into virtual machines (VM) instances. Real-world SPs such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft Azure, IBM, and Oracle provide different flavors of VM instances, such as on-demand, reserved, and low-cost or spot, depending on the type of application hosted. The on-demand instances are short-term and typically incur a higher cost than reserved instances that are provisioned for a longer duration at a discounted rate. Low-cost or spot instances are cost-effective compared to on-demand but are reclaimable by the SPs. The SPs often claim that the on-demand and spot instances achieve similar performance, but it is far from that. This paper studies the performance of spot instances via rigorous experimentation over commercial SPs such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure. Real-world evaluations affirm that spot instances perform poorly compared to their on-demand counterpart concerning memory, CPU, disk read, and write operations. We identify such instances as disruptive and name them so because it does not fulfill the performance, durability, and flexibility expectations like an on-demand instance having the same configuration. We also perform hypothesis testing over the experimental data obtained to corroborate our claim further.

This study addresses the challenge of sentiment analysis in Bengali Facebook comments, where users express their opinions on various topics. Existing sentiment analysis techniques have difficulty achieving high accuracy in this situation, which has inspired the creation of a fresh methodology. To improve sentiment analysis of Bengali Facebook comments, we suggest a model that combines a hybrid convolutional neural network (CNN) and a long short-term memory network (LSTM). Our research adds to the expanding area of sentiment analysis, especially for languages with few resources, such as Bengali. The success of the Hybrid CNN LSTM model opens the door for more precise and context-aware sentiment analysis on social media platforms, allowing for a better understanding of user sentiments and boosting user experiences. Our study focused on dividing comments into five groups according to their emotional content: troll, not bully, sexual, religious, and threat. We carefully generated the handmade dataset and ensured the quality and relevance of a dataset of 50,000 Bengali comments before using it to train and test our algorithm. The Hybrid CNN LSTM model outperforms conventional approaches and achieves an outstanding accuracy rate of 92.09%, demonstrating amazing efficiency in sentiment recognition. This dramatic increase in precision indicates that machine learning techniques are successful in sentiment analysis of Bengali Facebook comments. © 2024 IEEE.

The creation of a safety system that is based on GPS and is developed exclusively for the health and safety of women via the incorporation of novel elements in order to meet the rising concerns about crimes committed against women. The gadget is capable of contacting authorities, conveying the user's position via SMS, and generating a loud noise to attract attention. It may be triggered in anticipation of potential danger and can be activated in the event that danger is imminent. In order to guarantee that only authorized users are able to activate the device, the system makes use of fingerprint recognition in a very unique way. Using technologies such as global positioning system (GPS), global system for mobile communications (GSM), and microcontrollers, this study makes a contribution to the continuing efforts to improve the safety of women via technological innovation. It provides a proactive approach to prevent violence against women and save lives. The research emphasizes the significance of combining hardware and software in order to provide a complete safety tool. It also illustrates the vital role that quick support plays and the potential of such gadgets to promote confidence among women in public places. © 2024 IEEE.

Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

Autonomous mission capabilities with optimal path are stringent requirements for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) navigation in diverse applications. The proposed research framework is to identify an energy-efficient optimal path to achieve the designated missions for the navigation of UAVs in various constrained and denser obstacle prone regions. Hence, the present work is aimed to develop an optimal energy-efficient path planning algorithm through combining well known modified ant colony optimization algorithm (MACO) and a variant of A*, namely the memory-efficient A* algorithm (MEA*) for avoiding the obstacles in three dimensional (3D) environment and arrive at an optimal path with minimal energy consumption. The novelty of the proposed method relies on integrating the above two efficient algorithms to optimize the UAV path planning task. The basic design of this study is, that by utilizing an improved version of the pheromone strategy in MACO, the local trap and premature convergence are minimized, and also an optimal path is found by means of reward and penalty mechanism. The sole notion of integrating the MEA* algorithm arises from the fact that it is essential to overcome the stringent memory requirement of conventional A* algorithm and to resolve the issue of tracking only the edges of the grids. Combining the competencies of MACO and MEA*, a hybrid algorithm is proposed to avoid obstacles and find an efficient path. Simulation studies are performed by varying the number of obstacles in a 3D domain. The real-time flight trials are conducted experimentally using a UAV by implementing the attained optimal path. A comparison of the total energy consumption of UAV with theoretical analysis is accomplished. The significant finding of this study is that, the MACO-MEA* algorithm achieved 21% less energy consumption and 55% shorter execution time than the MACO-A*. moreover, the path traversed in both simulation and experimental methods is 99% coherent with each other.

Low-Rate Denial of Service (LDoS) attacks, an emerging breed of DoS attacks, present a formidable challenge in terms of their detectability. Within the realm of network security, these attacks cast a substantial shadow over the availability and integrity of services. This study seeks to delve into the intricate mechanics of LDoS attacks and explore the landscape of developed detection methodologies. Employing bibliometric analysis, we employ a multifaceted approach to gather research insights pertaining to LDoS attack detection. This approach encompasses the examination of evolving research trends, scrutiny of widely cited scientific publications within the same domain, identification of prolific researchers shaping the field, and a judicious selection of reputable publishers for dependable information acquisition. Furthermore, our study undertakes a meticulous categorization and classification of previously proposed LDoS detection methods documented in well-established scientific literature. This endeavor not only provides a more profound comprehension of the evolutionary trajectory and thematic thrusts within LDoS attack detection research, but it also facilitates the identification of gaps and directions for future exploration. The culmination of these analytical efforts culminates in a comprehensive framework. This contribution manifests through structured categorization, classification, and a forward-looking research roadmap, which collectively serve as valuable tools for both current and aspiring researchers engaged in LDoS attack detection. In summary, this research not only delves into the complexities of LDoS attacks and their mechanisms but also augments the current understanding of detection capabilities. In today's digital age, recommendation systems have become an important tool in many sectors, including education. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature related to recommendation systems in an educational context. Using major scientific databases and bibliometric analysis tools, we evaluate publications from the last 5 years to identify research trends, collaboration patterns, and methodological developments. Our results show a significant increase in the number of publications and interest in this field, with a wide variety of research themes ranging from personalized learning to optimization of educational resources. The most dominant analytics techniques include collaborative filtering and content-based filtering, while hybrid and deep learning approaches show growing potential. In addition, we identified geographic and institutional concentrations of research, as well as a set of challenges such as data privacy and the need for adaptation to learner dynamics. This research underscores the importance of recommendation systems in improving tailored educational experiences and supporting data-driven academic decisions. We also offer insights for future research directions, including the need for interdisciplinary research and closer international collaboration. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to its many applications in a variety of domains, including clustering, cloud computing, and power systems, metaheuristic algorithms have attracted a lot of interest from the scholarly community. By using their self-explorative and adaptive processes, these algorithms provide certain benefits over conventional methods. One well-known metaheuristic approach is effective in resolving optimization problems with constraints and without constraints. This technique was inspired by nature, notably the echolocation ability of bat species. The Bat Algorithm (BA) makes use of a powerful search mechanism to provide the best results when compared to other algorithms of the same class. The theoretical underpinnings of the BA are explored in depth in this research, along with several changes and advancements that have improved its functionality. These enhancements include adjustments to search tactics as well as other developments. The report also thoroughly examines how the BA may be used across a variety of fields, demonstrating its competence and adaptability. The BA has been effectively used in several real-world applications, from cloud computing to clustering, and each one is carefully investigated. The study also offers a thoughtful examination of the BA's possible advancements and future possibilities. It also entails investigating novel modifications and tactics that might improve its effectiveness in handling challenging optimization issues. This study seeks to direct practitioners and academics toward more effective and efficient metaheuristic algorithms, thereby stimulating improvements in optimization approaches. It does this by summarising the present state of the BA and imagining its future development. © 2023 IEEE.
