Entering the 21st century, the aging process and increasing chronic diseases in Taiwan society have become more prevalent. To deal with the problem, we develop a ubiquitous healthcare (u-Health) system platform that integrates wireless telecommunication, sensor network, and information technology to take care of patients having chronic diseases. The u-Health system provides not only telecare at home setting, but also a health community network which can further integrate medical care and life care and emphasize on patent humanity and dignity. For this purpose, a holistic u-Health system focusing on the physiological, psychosocial, arts, recreational, and even spiritual aspects of patients was implemented for people living in the community. In this study, we applied our community based u-Health system to the current and retired employees of National Taiwan University (NTU) who had at least one of the following chronic diseases: hypertension, diabetes mellitus and obesity, and required long term follow up and treatment. A community medical group (CMG) which is formed with family doctors from the Family Medicine department of NTU Hospital, the Yung-Ho Branch of Cardinal Tien Hospital, NTU Health Center, and several other local clinics in Taipei City was in charge of the medical care along with a dedicated case managing nurse for the medical care at outpatient clinics, home telecare and 24-hour health consultation. Using this integrated community-based system is expected to provide a comprehensive and ubiquitous healthcare and eventually improve the quality of care by increasing compliance and reducing the complications of chronic diseases. © 2009 IEEE.

Paper shows direct connection and implementation way of designed control schemas of prepared applications to an industrial WinPLC. Paper deals with industrial realization of feedback control of demanding applications on their control, control algorithms and visualization together with design, implementation and real time control from MATLAB/Simulink Environment. Described is a way to produce a permanent solution in control applications that are fully prepared, designed and implemented directly from MATLAB/Simulink to the target control platform. As a part, the mentioned solution is using a multiplatform control system REX as a bridge between MATLAB and target platforms. These methods allow minimizing costs of development of control of applications, because it produces target permanent realizations in comparison to classical development methods that usually need expensive real time measurement cards and produce only one purpose development solution. As next benefit the application is created for visualization the data from RT database during the measurement and control process. This last benefit produce an interesting data from real control process to give a next reason to use of WinCon solution.

In the ant colony system (ACS) algorithm, ants build tours mainly depending on the pheromone information on edges. The parameter settings of pheromone updating in ACS have direct effect on the performance of the algorithm. However, it is a difficult task to choose the proper pheromone decay parameters ¿ and ¿ for ACS. This paper presents a novel version of ACS algorithm for obtaining self-adaptive parameters control in pheromone updating rules. The proposed adaptive ACS (AACS) algorithm employs Average Tour Similarity (ATS) as an indicator of the optimization state in the ACS. Instead of using fixed values of ¿ and ¿, the values of ¿ and ¿ are adaptively adjusted according to the normalized value of ATS. The AACS algorithm has been applied to optimize several benchmark TSP instances. The solution quality and the convergence rate are favorably compared with the ACS using fixed values of ¿ and ¿. Experimental results confirm that our proposed method is effective and outperforms the conventional ACS.

This paper explores a pragmatic establishment of healthcare techniques dedicated to improving the safety and drivability of electric power wheelchairs. The focus of the study is an analysis of the relationship between passenger's posture behavior and comfort sensation in riding mobile wheelchair. We propose a new driving control system, by constructing a passenger's posture model that involves the measurement of passenger's contact with chair's backrest. Passenger's safety and comfort while riding wheelchair is improved by suppressing the vibration with discomfort frequencies. The model allows to capture the passenger's posture behavior, thus enables to optimize driving pattern. The envisioned outcome will make physically handicapped people travel safely and comfortably in indoor and outdoor environments.

With the ongoing trend towards the globalization of software systems and their development, components in these systems might not only work together, but may end up evolving independently from each other. Modern IDEs have started to incorporate support for these highly distributed environments, by adding new collaborative features. As a result, assessing and controlling system quality (e.g. security concerns) during system evolution in these highly distributed systems become a major challenge. In this research, we introduce a unified ontological representation that integrates best security practices in a context-aware tool implementation. As part of our approach, we integrate information from traditional static source code analysis with semantic rich structural information in a unified ontological representation. We illustrate through several use cases how our approach can support the evolvability of software systems from a security quality perspective.

In this review, we have discussed about approaches in pathway based microarray analysis. Commonly, there are two approaches in pathway based analysis, Enrichment Score and Supervised Machine Learning. These pathway based approaches usually aim to statistically define significant pathways that related to phenotypes of interest. Firstly we discussed an overview of pathway based microarray analysis and its general flow processes in scoring the pathways, the methods applied in both approaches, advantages and limitations based on current researches, and pathways database used in pathway analysis. This review aim to provide better understanding about pathway based microarray analysis and its approaches.

Software development and maintenance are highly distributed processes that involve a multitude of supporting tools and resources. Knowledge relevant to these resources is typically dispersed over a wide range of artifacts, representation formats, and abstraction levels. In order to stay competitive, organizations are often required to assess and provide evidence that their software meets the expected requirements. In our research, we focus on assessing non-functional quality requirements, specifically evolvability, through semantic modeling of relevant software artifacts. We introduce our SE-Advisor that supports the integration of knowledge resources typically found in software ecosystems by providing a unified ontological representation. We further illustrate how our SE-Advisor takes advantage of this unified representation to support the analysis and assessment of different types of quality attributes related to the evolvability of software ecosystems.

Over the last decades, software engineering processes have constantly evolved to reflect cultural, social, technological, and organizational changes, which are often a direct result of the Internet. The introduction of the Web 2.0 resulted in further changes creating an interactive, community driven platform. However, these ongoing changes have yet to be reflected in the way we document software systems. Documentation generators, like Doxygen and its derivatives (Javadoc, Natural Docs, etc.) have become the de-facto industry standards for creating external technical software documentation from source code. However, the inter-woven representation of source code and documentation within a source code editor limits the ability of these approaches to provide rich media, internationalization, and interactive content. In this paper, we combine the functionality of a Web browser with a source code editor to provide source code documentation with rich media content. The paper presents our fully functional implementation of the editor within the Eclipse framework.

This paper presents a heart sound transcription technique to provide semi-structured musical data. The heart beat samples were captured using stethoscope and recorded in pulse-code modulation (PCM) method into several differing audio file formats. Pitch tracking algorithm were utilized for the heartbeat transcription into MIDI generation. We propose the use of several sound processing techniques to improve the transcription. Several experiments using a collection recorded heartbeats illustrate the feasibility of using this note transcription approach in heart sound.

While a network with stationary nodes can provide large capacity in many current wireless systems, a network with mobile users suffers from severe performance degradation. This happens due to quick channel variation and its resulting protocol overheads that are especially large for multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. In this paper, we propose a relay-assisted multiuser MIMO downlink system to support highly mobile wireless access. Through a theoretical throughput analysis that explicitly considers the protocol overheads, we show that the MIMO relay significantly enhances the sum throughput of the system.
