This research integrates Taguchi's parameter design method, back-propagation neural networks (BPNN), and Davidon-Fletcher-Powell (DFP) method to optimize the process parameter settings of plastic injection molding. Taguchi's parameter design method is used to arrange an orthogonal array experiment and to reduce the number of set-test cycles. Injection Time, Velocity Pressure Switch Position, Packing Pressure, and Injection Velocity are selected as process control parameters and product weight is selected as the single product quality. The experimental data of Taguchi's parameter design method are used for effectively training and testing BPNN. Then, BPNN is combined with DFP to search out the final optimal process parameter settings. Finally, a confirmation experiment is performed to confirm the effectiveness of the final optimal process parameter settings. The experimental results show that the proposed effective process parameter optimization approach can avoid shortcomings inherent in the application of trial-and-error processes or the conventional Taguchi parameter design method. Furthermore, the proposed approach can effectively assist engineers in determining optimal initial process parameter settings and achieving competitive advantages on product quality and costs.

In this paper we consider the case of a three-stage supply where a firm can supply many customers. This supply chain system involves suppliers, manufactures, and retailers. Production and inventory decisions are made at the suppliers and manufactures levels. The production rates for the suppliers and manufactures are assumed finite. In addition the demand for each firm is assumed to be known. The problem is to coordinate production, inventory and transportation decisions across the supply chain so that the total cost of the system is minimized. For this purpose, we incorporate transportation cost explicitly into the model and describe optimal solution procedure for solving the model.

Driver distraction has been recognized as a significant cause of traffic incidents. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate Electroencephalography (EEG) dynamics in response to distraction during driving. To study human cognition under specific driving task, we used Virtual Reality (VR) based driving simulation to simulate events including unexpected car deviations and mathematics questions (math) in real driving. For further assessing effects of the stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA) between the deviation onset and math presented on the EEG dynamics, we designed five cases with different SOA. The scalp-recorded EEG channel signals were first separated into independent brain sources by Independent Component Analysis (ICA). Then, the Event-Related-Spectral-Perturbations (ERSP) measuring changes of EEG power spectra were used to evaluate the brain dynamics in time-frequency domains. Results showed that increases of theta band (5approx7.8 Hz) and beta band (12.2approx17 Hz) power were observed in the frontal cortex. Results demonstrated that reaction time and multiple cortical EEG sources responded to the driving deviations and math occurrences differentially in the stimulus onset asynchrony. Results also suggested that the theta band power increase in frontal area could be used as the distracted indexes for early detecting driver's inattention in the future.

In mobile cellular systems the handover is a very important process to maintain the desired Quality of Service (QoS). Many handover algorithms are proposed in the literature. However, to make a better handover and keep the QoS in wireless networks is very difficult. In this paper, by using random walk model and fuzzy theory we propose a new handover system. The proposed system uses 3 parameters for handoff decision: signal strength from the present Base Station (BS), signal strength from the neighbor BS, and the distance between Mobile Station (MS) and BS. The performance evaluation via simulations shows that proposed system can avoid ping-pong effect and has a good handover decision.

This paper presents a new method on fault distribution modeling for stochastic prediction study of voltage sags in the distribution system. Two-dimensional stochastic models for fault modeling make it possible to obtain the fault performance for the whole system of interest, which helps obtaining not only sag performance at individual locations but also system sag performance through system indices of voltage sag. By using bivariate normal distribution for fault distribution modeling, the paper estimates the influence of model parameters on system voltage sag performance. The paper also develops the modified SARFI{sub}X regarding phase loads that creates better estimation for voltage sag performance for distribution system.

Modem FPGAs' parallel computing capability and their ability to be reconfigured make them an ideal platform to build accelerators for supercomputing systems. As a multicore processor, the recently announced Cell Broadband EngineTM1 offers tremendous computing power. In this paper, we introduce a prototype system that combines these two types of computing devices together in a reconfigurable blade and we describe its architecture, memory system and abundant interfaces. On the reconfigurable blade it is desirable that the FPGA devices can be partially reconfigured at run-time. This paper presents the dynamic partial reconfiguration (DPR) technique and its design flow for the reconfigurable blade. We report our experimental results of the blade doing partial reconfiguration. DPR allows the reconfigurable blade to be a powerful, run-time changeable computing engine. A sample application is presented that was both simulated for the Cell processor and dynamically loaded to run on the FPGA.

For Dubois rough fuzzy sets, the membership of the lower or upper approximations is defined as the elements memberships' infimum or supsmum in equivalent class. As a result of not considering the elements whose memberships are between the minimum and maximum, some useful information of these elements may be lost in the information processing. The paper presents a new operator of rough fuzzy sets that every element's membership in equivalent class is taken into account. Based on the new operator, algebra properties are put forward and rough fuzzy membership is defined. Moreover, the paper presents accurate degree, classified quality, dependence degree and attribute reduction algorithm. At last, an example proves that the algorithm is efficient.
