Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) stands at the forefront of AI innovation, demonstrating rapid advancement and unparalleled proficiency in generating diverse content. Beyond content creation, GAI has significant analytical abilities to learn complex data distribution, offering numerous opportunities to resolve security issues. In the realm of security from physical layer perspectives, traditional AI approaches frequently struggle, primarily due to their limited capacity to dynamically adjust to the evolving physical attributes of transmission channels and the complexity of contemporary cyber threats. This adaptability and analytical depth are precisely where GAI excels. Therefore, in this paper, we offer an extensive survey on the various applications of GAI in enhancing security within the physical layer of communication networks. We first emphasize the importance of advanced GAI models in this area, including Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Autoencoders (AEs), Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), and Diffusion Models (DMs). We delve into the roles of GAI in addressing challenges of physical layer security, focusing on communication confidentiality, authentication, availability, resilience, and integrity. Furthermore, we also present future research directions focusing model improvements, multi-scenario deployment, resource-efficient optimization, and secure semantic communication, highlighting the multifaceted potential of GAI to address emerging challenges in secure physical layer communications and sensing. © 2024, CC BY.

This research paper explores the application of machine learning techniques in predicting obesity trends through big data analytics (BDA). In the second segment of the tutorial, we transition from the granularity of local interpretability to a broader exploration of eXplainable AI (XAI) methods. Building on the specific focus of the first part, which delved into Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME) and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP), this section takes a more expansive approach. We will navigate through various XAI techniques of more global nature, covering counterfactual explanations, equation discovery, and the integration of physics-informed AI. Unlike the initial part, which concentrated on two specific methods, this section offers a general overview of these broader classes of techniques for explanation. The objective is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse strategies available for making complex machine learning models interpretable on a more global scale.

As AI offers a suitable response to various challenges associated with this disease, it plays a crucial role in mental health. A fundamental concept of the AI-based mental health remedy and its impact on directly affecting social-emotional learning has also been examined in this study with the appropriate material and references. The many types of AI that may unquestionably aid in general mental health education have already been specifically outlined in this research using all the data from existing books and publications. In addition to this, an AI-based chatbot platform has been built within the software system to identify various health factors that seem to be directly linked to mental health. The main challenges in this regard remained consistent with other AI-related healthcare systems including concerns for privacy and confidentiality apart from data integrity. © 2023 IEEE.

Deep belief network-hidden Markov model based nonlinear equalizer for VCSEL based optical interconnect

The data center has developed rapidly over the past few years, leading to the demand for high speed data transmission. Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers(VCSELs) based optical interconnect is evolving to 100 Gb/s and beyond, which makes nonlinear distortions difficult to be compensated or equalized by conventional equalizers. Moreover, the challenge becomes very complicated for conventional equalizers because of the presence of inter-symbol interference(ISI) together with the nonlinear distortions. So many neural network based DSP algorithms such as artificial neural network(ANN) have been proposed to mitigate the distortions. However, ANN has the limitations that sample's relevant information is not considered,leading to degradation in ANN's performance and high computational complexity. In this paper, in order to maintain an excellent capability of mitigating nonlinear distortions like other neural network based equalizers while considering the sample's relevant information to reduce the computational complexity, we propose a deep belief network-hidden Markov model(DBN-HMM) based nonlinear equalizer which is tested in a PAM-4 modulated VCSEL and multimode fiber(MMF) optical interconnect link experimentally. The BER performance can be greatly improved compared with conventional DSP algorithms. In addition, the computational complexity of DBN-HMM based equalizer can be about 41% lower than that of ANN based method with a similar BER performance.

Many microswimmers propel themselves by rotating microcylindrical organelles such as flagella or cilia. These cylindrical organelles almost never live in free space, yet their motions in a confining geometry can be counterintuitive. For example, one of the intriguing yet classical results in this regard is that a rotating cylinder next to a plane wall does not generate any net force in Newtonian fluids and therefore does not translate. In this work we employ analytical and numerical tools to investigate the motions of microcylinders under prescribed torques in a confining geometry. We show that a cylinder pair can form four nontrivial hydrodynamic bound states depending on the relative position within the confinement. Our analysis shows that the distinct states are the results of competing effects of the hydrodynamic interactions within the cylinder pair and between the active cylinders and the confinement.

Blockchain technology is significant because it makes data sharing between several parties safe, transparent, and effective. Multi-step transactions that require verification and traceability can benefit from Blockchain technology. However, the Blockchain technology too comes with its own vulnerabilities and often Blockchain networks are attacked by attacks like 51% Attack, Eclipse Attack, Sybil Attack, Time jacking Attack, Selfish Mining Attack, Finney Attack, Race Attack and so on. One among those attacks is the Sybil attacks, which are a big threat to the integrity of Blockchain networks since they assist malicious actors to create several identities, potentially overwhelming the system and defeating the very principle of consensus mechanisms. In this paper, we have captured an approach on designing a multi-layered mechanism for identifying Sybil attacks with the integration of behavioral analysis, Blockchain analysis techniques, Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs), and a robust security architecture for governance and validator selection. The broad idea is to cancel pseudo-anonymity in the Blockchain systems by detecting behavioral patterns, identifying exchange wallets, and mapping inter-wallet relationships. Integration of these approaches with ZKPs assists in improving identity verification while simultaneously maintaining user anonymity. The proposed architecture for security uses community-based governance and adaptive validator selection processes to strengthen the defense against Sybil attacks. Token concentration analysis traces down the distribution of stakes within the network in order to find potential risks due to centralization. Our findings thus conclude that integration of the security framework along with behavior analysis and ZKPs effectively reduces the proliferation of fraudulent identities in the Blockchain networks.

This paper proposes a joint design of probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS) and precoding to enhance the sum-rate performance of multi-user visible light communications (VLC) broadcast channels subject to signal amplitude constraint. In the proposed design, the transmission probabilities of bipolar M-pulse amplitude modulation (M-PAM) symbols for each user and the transmit precoding matrix are jointly optimized to improve the sum-rate performance. The joint design problem is shown to be a complex non-convex problem due to the non-convexity of the objective function. To tackle the problem, the firefly algorithm (FA), a nature-inspired heuristic optimization approach, is employed to solve a local optima to the original non-convex optimization problem. The FA-based approach, however, suffers from high computational complexity. Therefore, we propose a low-complexity design based on zero-forcing (ZF) precoding, which is solved using an alternating optimization (AO) approach. Simulation results reveal that the proposed joint design with PCS significantly improves the sum-rate performance compared to the conventional design with uniform signaling. Some insights into the optimal symbol distributions of the two joint design approaches are also provided.

P4toNFV: Offloading from P4 switches to NFV in programmable data planes

P4 combines the benefits of hardware-based networking with the adaptability of software-based network operations. However, when faced with intricate network functions, P4 switches reveal constraints in memory and processing primitives. To address these, we advocate offloading traffic demanding intricate processing from the programmable data plane to network function virtualization (NFV). By leveraging this approach, P4 switches handle the core data plane, ensuring maximum performance, whereas virtualized network functions (VNF) cater to the intricate processing. Central to our research is the optimization of this offloading process, specifically considering delay constraints. We developed an analytical model that examines a P4 switch overseen by an SDN controller, integrating an offloading capability to NFV. The principal objective was to determine an offloading rate that minimizes packet processing delay. To this end, we employed a Bounded method, an advancement from Brent's method, to determine this optimal rate. The findings indicate that offloading approximately 66% of packets to the VNF achieves the lowest total delay, registering at 0.1505 (Formula presented.) s. This strategy of optimal offloading can notably reduce the system's average delay as the demand for network functions increases. The optimization technique we adopted exhibited rapid convergence in our experiments, reflecting the method's efficacy. Furthermore, a rigorous parametric sensitivity analysis spanning no offloading, full offloading, and optimal offloading strategies underscores that optimal offloading to NFV consistently augments system performance, particularly in terms of delay reduction. Conclusively, our study furnishes valuable insights into offloading strategies, augmenting the narrative on resource allocation in both PNFs and VNFs. © 2023 The Authors. Dependency effects between Critical Infrastructure (CI) elements represent key information needed to predict and analyze the impact of natural (or man-made) disturbances. The dependency links among CI elements and their associated weight are data whose availability is often complex to determine and are usually not available. Leveraging on several data supporting US and EU Directives for the Resilience and the Protection of CIs, the objective of the present work is to define a dependency network of elements of critical sectors extracted from available open-data. The resulting network is then studied in terms of its basic topological properties. The analysis of the network provides interesting clues about the properties and locations of critical points that can cause cascading failures.
