Traditional centralized multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms are sometimes unpractical in complicated applications due to non-interactivity between agents, the curse of dimensionality, and computation complexity. Hence, several decentralized MARL algorithms are motivated. However, existing decentralized methods only handle the fully cooperative setting where massive information needs to be transmitted in training. The block coordinate gradient descent scheme they used for successive independent actor and critic steps can simplify the calculation, but it causes serious bias. This paper proposes a exible fully decentralized actor-critic MARL framework, which can combine most of the actor-critic methods and handle large-scale general cooperative multi-agent settings. A primal-dual hybrid gradient descent type algorithm framework is designed to learn individual agents separately for decentralization. From the perspective of each agent, policy improvement and value evaluation are jointly optimized, which can stabilize multi-agent policy learning. Furthermore, the proposed framework can achieve scalability and stability for the large-scale environment. This framework also reduces information transmission by the parameter sharing mechanism and novel modeling-other-agents methods based on theory-of-mind and online supervised learning. Sufficient experiments in cooperative Multi-agent Particle Environment and StarCraft II show that the proposed decentralized MARL instantiation algorithms perform competitively against conventional centralized and decentralized methods.

Environmental selection is an important process in multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs). As the evolution progresses, the number of non-dominated solutions increases. This paper is focused on selecting a subset from excess non-dominated solutions for evolutionary or the final output. However, traditional selection methods in classical MOEAs encounter difficulties when dealing with candidate solutions that possess irregular topologies. Although the distance-based subset selection methods are not sensitive to the topologies of the candidate points, they have significant room for reducing computational complexity. In order to address the above issues, a subspace selection method is proposed in this paper. It partitions the objective space into multiple subspaces that have comparable volumes and shapes. The maximal minimum distance of each solution is considered to ensure that the sparsest solution is always chosen first. To save computational costs, only the solutions in the neighboring subspaces are taken into account. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed subspace selection method outperforms classical selection methods in solving problems with various shapes of the Pareto front. © 2023 IEEE.

For expensive multiobjective optimization problems, there exists useful knowledge, e.g., the trained surrogate models, can be transferred to assist the optimization of a target optimization problem, which is termed as multi-problem surrogates. Stacking transfer is able to combine the pretrained source surrogate models and the preliminary target model with a meta-regression algorithm to transfer knowledge from source to target. However, when large-scale source models are involved in the many-problem scenarios, the less correlated sources may hurt the target performance, which is known as negative transfer. In this paper, sparse representation of the coefficients of meta-regression is considered to automatically select the most relevant source models for largely avoiding negative transfer. In the proposed many-problem surrogates, the coefficients of the source and target models are assumed to be sparse under the non-negativity and sum-to-one constraints. Then a sparse transfer stacking model is established with l1-norm of the coefficients. Next, the alternating direction method of multipliers is employed to solve the resulting constrained optimization problem by converting it into several much simpler problems. Most of the previous works assume that the costs for evaluation have no much difference and this assumption rarely holds in the real-world applications. In order to further reduce the total costs, an improved surrogate model with a cost-sensitive measure is designed to estimate the cost and select new solutions for real evaluation based on their estimated fitness, uncertainty and cost. Experimental results on synthetic and practical problems have demonstrated the superiority of the proposed many-problem surrogates. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

PCRDiffusion: Diffusion Probabilistic Models for Point Cloud Registration

We propose a new framework that formulates point cloud registration as a denoising diffusion process from noisy transformation to object transformation. During training stage, object transformation diffuses from ground-truth transformation to random distribution, and the model learns to reverse this noising process. In sampling stage, the model refines randomly generated transformation to the output result in a progressive way. We derive the variational bound in closed form for training and provide implementations of the model. Our work provides the following crucial findings: (i) In contrast to most existing methods, our framework, Diffusion Probabilistic Models for Point Cloud Registration (PCRDiffusion) does not require repeatedly update source point cloud to refine the predicted transformation. (ii) Point cloud registration, one of the representative discriminative tasks, can be solved by a generative way and the unified probabilistic formulation. Finally, we discuss and provide an outlook on the application of diffusion model in different scenarios for point cloud registration. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves competitive performance in point cloud registration. In correspondence-free and correspondence-based scenarios, PCRDifussion can both achieve exceeding 50% performance improvements. © 2023, CC BY.

Much of human knowledge in cybersecurity is encapsulated within the ever-growing volume of scientific papers. As this textual data continues to expand, the importance of document organization methods becomes increasingly crucial for extracting actionable insights hidden within large text datasets. Knowledge Graphs (KGs) serve as a means to store factual information in a structured manner, providing explicit, interpretable knowledge that includes domain-specific information from the cybersecurity scientific literature. One of the challenges in constructing a KG from scientific literature is the extraction of ontology from unstructured text. In this paper, we address this topic and introduce a method for building a multi-modal KG by extracting structured ontology from scientific papers. We demonstrate this concept in the cybersecurity domain. One modality of the KG represents observable information from the papers, such as the categories in which they were published or the authors. The second modality uncovers latent (hidden) patterns of text extracted through hierarchical and semantic non-negative matrix factorization (NMF), such as named entities, topics or clusters, and keywords. We illustrate this concept by consolidating more than two million scientific papers uploaded to arXiv into the cyber-domain, using hierarchical and semantic NMF, and by building a cyber-domain-specific KG.

Vehicles are increasingly equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) sensors that help reduce road risks and accidents. Among them, radar sensors play a key role due to their affordable cost and high effectiveness in object detection and tracking. However, with increasing penetration, radar signals generated by different vehicles can create interference and this may have a detrimental impact on the functionality. This observation is leading to a discussion about the need for new bands and mitigation rules. Assuming frequency modulated continuous waveform (FMCW) and a realistic distribution of vehicles on a highway, in this work, we: (i) illustrate a model for the investigation of the interference impact; (ii) propose to use a chirp-by-chirp frequency hopping to mitigate the interference and compare it with the frame-by-frame frequency hopping; (iii) show results, highlighting that both mitigation mechanisms and large frequency bandwidths are necessary in the long run.

Blockchain technology has piqued the interest of businesses of all types, while consistently improving and adapting to business requirements. Several blockchain platforms have emerged, making it challenging to select a suitable one for a specific type of business. This paper presents a classification of over one hundred blockchain platforms. We develop smart contracts for detecting healthcare insurance frauds using the top two blockchain platforms selected based on our proposed decision-making map approach which selects the top suitable platforms for healthcare insurance frauds detection application. Our classification shows that the largest percentage of platforms can be used for all types of application domains, the second biggest percentage for financial services, and a small number is to develop applications in specific domains. Our decision-making map and performance evaluations reveal that Hyperledger Fabric surpassed Neo in all metrics for detecting healthcare insurance frauds.

Can We Enhance the Quality of Mobile Crowdsensing Data Without Ground Truth?

Mobile crowdsensing (MCS) has emerged as a prominent trend across various domains. However, ensuring the quality of the sensing data submitted by mobile users (MUs) remains a complex and challenging problem. To address this challenge, an advanced method is needed to detect low-quality sensing data and identify malicious MUs that may disrupt the normal operations of an MCS system. Therefore, this article proposes a prediction- and reputation-based truth discovery (PRBTD) framework, which can separate low-quality data from high-quality data in sensing tasks. First, we apply a correlation-focused spatio-temporal Transformer network that learns from the historical sensing data and predicts the ground truth of the data submitted by MUs. However, due to the noise in historical data for training and the bursty values within sensing data, the prediction results can be inaccurate. To address this issue, we use the implications among the sensing data, which are learned from the prediction results but are stable and less affected by inaccurate predictions, to evaluate the quality of the data. Finally, we design a reputation-based truth discovery (TD) module for identifying low-quality data with their implications. Given the sensing data submitted by MUs, PRBTD can eliminate the data with heavy noise and identify malicious MUs with high accuracy. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the PRBTD method outperforms existing methods in terms of identification accuracy and data quality enhancement. Copyright © 2024, The Authors.
