The convergence between advanced technology and industrial production holds significant potential to enhance operational efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and minimize unexpected disruptions. Artificial intelligence, in particular, plays a crucial role in predicting machine failures, thereby contributing to the optimization of operational performance and maximizing overall company output. However, current challenges in maintenance and production are numerous. High maintenance costs are often a major concern for companies, as they can significantly eat into profit margins. Unexpected downtime, caused by sudden machine failures, leads to substantial production losses, affecting not only revenue but also customer satisfaction and the company's reputation. Furthermore, the increasing complexity of industrial systems makes the management of maintenance and production even more difficult, necessitating more advanced and integrated solutions. This article explores the various applications of artificial intelligence in the manufacturing industry, highlighting its impact on business performance. It also examines the steps necessary for implementing predictive maintenance, from data collection and processing to the establishment of predictive models. The ultimate goal is to improve equipment availability, optimize operational performance, and maximize overall company output. © 2024 IEEE.

BERD+: A Generic Sequential Recommendation Framework by Eliminating Unreliable Data with Item- and Attribute-level Signals

A preliminary work of our study was published at IJCAI’21 [47], which is substantially extended in the following aspects: (1) In Section 1, we analyze the necessity of introducing item attributes for detecting unreliable instances, together with the problems and challenges that attributes may bring in. (2) In Section 2, we add discussions about the limitations of existing attribute-aware recommender systems (Section 2.2) and denoising methods (Section 2.3) in the context of detecting unreliable instances. (3) In Section 4.2, we further conduct an in-depth analysis at the attribute level to demonstrate the capability of attributes for rectifying instance loss and uncertainty, as well as the disturbance caused by attributes. (4) We generalize BERD to a generic framework BERD+ in Section 5.1, equipped with novel modules, i.e., HU-GCN (Section 5.2) and EPE (Section 5.4), which properly incorporate item attributes while reducing their disturbance for rectifying instance uncer tainty (Section 5.5) and loss (Section 5.6). The generic BERD+ can be flexibly plugged into existing SRSs for performance enhanced recommendation via eliminating unreliable data. (5) In Section 6.2, we apply our BERD+ framework to seven state-of-the-art SRSs on five real-world datasets to illustrate its superiority. (6) To avoid unfair comparison caused by item attributes, we build and compare with the baseline that combines the original BERD and an advanced attribute-aware recommender system, KSR [19]. (7) For more comprehensive comparison, in Section 6.2.2, we compare BRED+ with two state-of-the-art denoising approaches;in Section 6.2.3, to examine the efficacy of HU-GCN and EPE, we compare HU-GCN with various attribute embedding techniques, i.e., variants of graph neural networks, and compare EPE with different attribute fusing methods, i.e., adding, concatenation, and weighted sum. Secure Multiparty Computation (SMC) facilitates secure collaboration among multiple parties while safeguarding the privacy of their confidential data. This paper introduces a two-party quantum SMC protocol designed for evaluating binary Boolean functions using single qubits. Complexity analyses demonstrate a reduction of 66.7% in required quantum resources, achieved by utilizing single qubits instead of multi-particle entangled states. However, the quantum communication cost has increased by 40% due to the amplified exchange of qubits among participants. Furthermore, we bolster security by performing additional quantum operations along the y-axis of the Bloch sphere, effectively hiding the output from potential adversaries. We design the corresponding quantum circuit and implement the proposed protocol on the IBM Qiskit platform, yielding reliable outcomes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

At present, there exist some problems in granular clustering methods, such as lack of nonlinear membership description and global optimization of granular data boundaries. To address these issues, in this study, revolving around the parabolic granular data, we propose an overall architecture for parabolic granular modeling and clustering. To begin with, novel coverage and specificity functions are established, and then a parabolic granular data structure is proposed. The fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm is used to obtain the numeric prototypes, and then particle swarm optimization (PSO) is introduced to construct the parabolic granular data from the global perspective under the guidance of principle of justifiable granularity (PJG). Combining the advantages of FCM and PSO, we propose the parabolic granular modeling and optimization (PGMO) method. Moreover, we put forward attribute weights and sample weights as well as a distance measure induced by the Gaussian kernel similarity, and then come up with the algorithm of weighted kernel fuzzy clustering for parabolic granularity (WKFC-PG). In addition, the assessment mechanism of parabolic granular clustering is discussed. In summary, we set up an overall architecture including parabolic granular modeling, clustering, and assessment. Finally, comparative experiments on artificial, UCI, and high-dimensional datasets validate that our overall architecture delivers a good improvement over previous strategies. The parameter analysis and time complexity are also given for WKFC-PG. In contrast with related granular clustering algorithms, it is observed that WKFC-PG performs better than other granular clustering algorithms and has superior stability in handling outliers, especially on high-dimensional datasets. © 2020 IEEE.

As the level of circuit integration increases, the physical design becomes more and more complex, iterative static timing analysis(STA) is one of the most time-consuming task to achieve timing closure. After the route stage, fast and accurate timing analysis prediction can effectively reduce the number of static timing analysis in iterations, thereby improving design efficiency and reducing design cycle. In order to quickly predict the timing results after route, we propose a fast timing analysis predictor based on gate recurrent unit (GRU) neural network. This method extracts the features of combinations of cells and nets, assigns attention weights to different combinations, then predicts the hold slacks and setup slacks of each path in multi-corners. The experimental results in the sub-30nm show that the standard deviation of the prediction error ranges 5.41∼16.44ps, and the mean absolute error ranges 6.87∼18.55ps, and the prediction correlation is more than 0.96. Moreover, the speed of timing path prediction is more than 197 times faster than the analysis by STA tools, so that it can effectively and accurately accelerate the process of timing analysis and improve the efficiency of physical design. © 2023 IEEE.

Hypergraph neural networks (HGNNs) have emerged as a powerful extension of traditional graph neural networks, enabling the capture of higher-order relationships beyond pairwise connections. This paper explores the potential of HGNNs for advanced knowledge representation and learning. We introduce stability criteria for hyperedge selection, utilize hypergraph Laplacians, and construct higher-order knowledge graphs (HOKGs) for improved vertex classification. Through experiments on datasets such as Citeseer, Pubmed, and Cora, we demonstrate that integrating stability criteria significantly enhances the robustness and accuracy of HGNN models. Our results highlight the importance of stable hyperedges in maintaining consistent performance across diverse datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Sample adaptive offset (SAO) is applied for reducing sample distortion and attenuating ringing artifacts in both HEVC and VVC standards. The rate-distortion optimization process is used to select the best SAO parameter. It accounts for the majority of SAO complexity and determines the SAO filtering performance. Therefore, the rate-distortion cost calculation should be well handled to achieve both low cost and high coding performance. In this paper, we propose a simplified and optimized rate estimation algorithm based on the characteristics of SAO parameter syntax and entropy coding process. And we propose a hierarchical flow for rate-distortion cost calculation to further reduce the computational cost and storage cost for SAO mode decision hardware. The results show that the proposed algorithm achieves an average YUV loss of -0.10%, and the proposed SAO mode decision hardware architecture can be implemented by only 21.8k gates using TSMC 65nm process under 400 MHz. © 2024 IEEE.

The coexistence of coherent perfect absorber and laser or amplifier (CPAL) point is a peculiar spectral singularity associated with the scattering matrices of non-Hermitian systems. While the potential of CPAL systems for sensing application has been highlighted recently, the extreme sensitivity of parity-time (PT)-symmetric CPAL devices to the input signal deviations has so far impeded their practical utilization. Here we explore a strategy for implementing CPAL circuits by exploiting another type of non-Hermitian symmetry, namely anti-PT (APT) symmetry. We demonstrate that the condition for building CPAL in our proposed APT-symmetric electronic circuits additionally requires parity symmetry, which simplifies the circuit design and implementation. Additionally, we show that this newly proposed structure is 1.85 times more robust compared to previous CPAL devices studied in the literature.
