This paper investigates the covert communication in a satellite-terrestrial system, including a satellite transmitter Alice, a terrestrial full-duplex receiver Bob and a terrestrial warden Willie. To help the covert transmission from Alice, the full-duplex Bob transmits the jamming signal to confuse Willie and also receives the signal from Alice simultaneously. To explore the fundamental covertness in such a system, we first provide theoretical modelings for satellite-terrestrial downlink, and the detection error probability of Willie. Based on these models, we then study the transmit power optimization for covert rate maximization. Finally, we present extensive numerical results to validate our theoretical analysis and to illustrate the impact of various system parameters on the maximum covert rate. © 2024 IEEE.

Recent advance in ultra-fine-grained visual categorization (ultra-FGVC) has significantly boosted the capability of deep neural networks for ultra-FGVC tasks. However, building models for continually learning to recognize increasing ultra-fine-grained categories is still under-explored. This limits the application of ultra-FGVC techniques in real-world production. To this, we take the first attempt for continual ultra-FGVC. By evaluating existing continual learning methods on the constructed continual ultra-FGVC benchmark, we observe that the main bottleneck lies in the limited model plasticity for incrementally adapting to new tasks. This can be caused by excessive anti-forgetting constraints as the difficult ultra-FGVC task requires substantial update of parameters, and over-fitting on early tasks given that the ultra-fine-grained categories are with very few training samples. To tackle these problems, we propose a joint self-supervised learning and prompting model. The prompt-based continual learning framework offers proper anti-forgetting operation by fixed pretrained vision transformer and adaptive prompt selection. By jointly optimizing the learnable prompts with an adversarial self-supervised loss, the over-fitting on each continual learning task is mitigated. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing continual learning methods on the challenging continual ultra-FGVC problem. © 2023 IEEE.

The rapid advancement of networking and broad-band communications has created a demand for efficient relaying methods, particularly in the context of high-fidelity and low-latency last-mile communications. This paper explores the utilization of cellular-enabled-drones as Aerial-Base-Station (Aerial-BS) in cellular networks next-generation, specifically focusing on their potential as flying base stations in Beyond 5G/6G networks. The study summarises various aspects, including energy availability, mobility, optimal positioning, and node localization, handover efficiency. Additionally, multi-objective optimizations for bandwidth allocation, accommodating highly mobile User Equipment (UE), mitigating interference, and ensuring quality of service (QoS) are discussed. The paper highlights the use of drone-base-stations (DBS) as extending terrestrial network capacity and coverage, assisting mobile ad-hoc-networks, and enabling beam-forming applications. The challenges associated with optimal positioning, energy availability, path planning mobility, security, and QoS are examined, providing insights into future research directions. The findings contribute to the enhancement of cellular connectivity and offer valuable insights into the utilization of drones as flying aerial base stations in B5G / 6G network. © 2024 IEEE.

Sequential recommendation systems which aim to predict the users’ future clicking items are essential in both research and industry services. Based on the contextual characteristics of users, a large number of existing methods exploit abundant information from user behavior sequences and gain users’ interests through expressive sequential models like recurrent neural networks and self-attention mechanism to predict the next item. However, the temporal generative process of behavior sequences, which is crucial to the complex relationships and distributions of users’ dynamic preferences, is rarely considered. In this paper, we propose HawRec (Hawkes process based sequential recommendation), which is a new representation learning approach to model the interacted sequences of users from a temporal point process perspective. In particular, we leverage temporal self-attention mechanism to make an analogy to the self-exciting mechanism of Hawkes process. We bring expressive superiority of neural network into the Hawkes process with non-parametric conditional intensity kernel, resulting in more accurate recommendation and inheriting robustness from the temporal point process. Furthermore, extensive experiments conducted on four public benchmarks demonstrate that our HawRec outperforms various baselines of state-of-the-art sequential recommendation. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Cooperative multi-agent reinforcement learning (Co-MARL) commonly employs different parameter sharing mechanisms, such as full and partial sharing. However, imprudent application of these mechanisms can potentially constrain policy diversity and limit cooperation flexibility. Recent methods that group agents into distinct sharing categories often exhibit poor performance due to challenges in precisely differentiating agents and neglecting the issue of promoting cooperation among these categories. To address these issues, we introduce a dynamic selective parameter sharing mechanism embedded with multi-level reasoning abstractions (DSPS-MA). Our approach uses self-comparison sequences to infer agents' abstract concepts, defining the differences between agents and allowing them to dynamically select partners to share parameters based on these abstract concepts. We also design an intrinsic reward to offer comprehensive collaboration guidance for agents, and introduce a policy cosine similarity regularization term to ensure sufficient policy diversity. Empirical evaluations demonstrate that our approach yields higher returns and faster convergence than state-of-the-art methods. © 2023 The Authors.

Machine learning models are vulnerable to Out-Of-Distribution (OOD) examples, and such a problem has drawn much attention. However, current methods lack a full understanding of different types of OOD data: there are benign OOD data that can be properly adapted to enhance the learning performance, while other malign OOD data would severely degenerate the classification result. To Harness OOD data, this paper proposes a HOOD method that can leverage the content and style from each image instance to identify benign and malign OOD data. Particularly, we design a variational inference framework to causally disentangle content and style features by constructing a structural causal model. Subsequently, we augment the content and style through an intervention process to produce malign and benign OOD data, respectively. The benign OOD data contain novel styles but hold our interested contents, and they can be leveraged to help train a style-invariant model. In contrast, the malign OOD data inherit unknown contents but carry familiar styles, by detecting them can improve model robustness against deceiving anomalies. Thanks to the proposed novel disentanglement and data augmentation techniques, HOOD can effectively deal with OOD examples in unknown and open environments, whose effectiveness is empirically validated in three typical OOD applications including OOD detection, open-set semi-supervised learning, and open-set domain adaptation. © 2023 11th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2023. Nowadays, criminal frauds occur in an organized manner in the banking sector. This issue is challenging since the number of organized frauds associated with such areas is estimated to range from 2% to 5% of the global gross domestic product (GDP). The people committing organized fraud use Internet-based financial services and conventional financial services. Accordingly, they use more complex plans and maps to avoid being recognized through organized fraud fighting systems. Due to the complexity and variety of fraud methods, the transaction may not seem suspicious initially. Hence, it is crucial to consider the interactions between the cards. For this purpose, the use of network theory is recommended. The current paper aims to classify each transaction as illegal or legal correctly. Therefore, extensive data analysis is used to organized fraud in the bank transaction network. Besides, a comparison between supervised learning algorithms is presented on a dataset with 46,316 transactions related to customers' card activities to distinguish between illegal and legal transactions. According to the Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F1-Score criteria values, random forest and XGBoost could be considered suitable predictive models for fraud detection. © 2023 IEEE.

The visible and near-infrared image fusion aims to generate an image that integrates complementary information from images captured in different spectral bands. However, existing fusion methods either only focus on the fusion of spatial information, or fuse spatial and spectral information without decoupling, resulting in undesirable effects such as halo artifacts, information loss, and inferior visual quality. To address these issues, we propose a Spatial-Spectral Decoupling Fusion (SSDF) framework that can effectively fuse the spatial and spectral information of visible and near-infrared images. The SSDF framework decomposes the image pairs into two main branches: the Spatial Feature Enhancement (SFE) branch and the Spectral Characteristic Preservation (SCP) branch. The SFE branch enhances the salient details in the fused image by exploiting the contrast between spatial features and generating region-based fusion weights, while the SCP branch preserves the intrinsic spectral characteristics of the scene by fusing the reflectance characteristics of visible and near-infrared images. The final image is obtained by combining the spatial and spectral information. We conduct extensive experiments to show that our SSDF method can achieve superior fusion performance in subjective visual quality and objective metrics compared with state-of-the-art methods. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Multi-Task Learning (MTL) for Vision Transformer aims at enhancing the model capability by tackling multiple tasks simultaneously. Most recent works have predominantly focused on designing Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) structures and integrating Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) to efficiently perform multi-task learning. However, their rigid combination hampers both the optimization of MoE and the effectiveness of reparameterization of LoRA, leading to sub-optimal performance and low inference speed. In this work, we propose a novel approach dubbed Efficient Multi-Task Learning (EMTAL) by transforming a pre-trained Vision Transformer into an efficient multi-task learner during training, and reparameterizing the learned structure for efficient inference. Specifically, we firstly develop the MoEfied LoRA structure, which decomposes the pre-trained Transformer into a low-rank MoE structure and employ LoRA to fine-tune the parameters. Subsequently, we take into account the intrinsic asynchronous nature of multi-task learning and devise a learning Quality Retaining (QR) optimization mechanism, by leveraging the historical high-quality class logits to prevent a well-trained task from performance degradation. Finally, we design a router fading strategy to integrate the learned parameters into the original Transformer, archiving efficient inference. Extensive experiments on public benchmarks demonstrate the superiority of our method, compared to the state-of-the-art multi-task learning approaches.
